Just ordered a Pleo for my son
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:49:49 AM »

My oldest will be turning 5 in two weeks, and LOVES dinosaurs, so we got him a Pleo! It's on its way, and I'm looking forward to doing lots of cool stuff with him!

First welcome to the Forums.  I have a granddaughter who got her Pleo for Christmas last year when she was 5.    That was all she wanted for Christmas.  Being a girl and not into dinosaurs that much she still loves Princess Bella and has learned to handle her with much care.  Right now her Princess stage has taken over her life but she will play with her when I bring my two Pleo's over to visit, Angel-Juliet and Dinomite-Romeo.  I have been teaching her to interact with Bella and the older she gets and now with the new skits thanks to several talented people, especially all the skits In Memory of Romeo has made available for us her interest is picking up.  I don't think you will have that problem.  Boys tend to really be into dinosaurs and not princessess.    8)

I take my two Pleo kids to different places.   Recently on a trip to my granddaughters afterschool care we had many sets of hands wanting to touch and feel as well and poke at them.  Children from pre-school - 4th grade were there and I spent time explaining how delicate the neck and tail are because of cables and that extreme care must be taken when handling the dinosaurs to avoid breaking the neck and tail.  I let each one touch the foot to see how the skin felt and after the younger ones went outside I let the older ones touch the top of the head and answered their very intricate questions.  It was so wonderful, I might add that the younger children wanted to know if they were real! ;)

You and your son are about to embark on a wonderful journey.  As you teach him to interact with his new dinosaur from the time he/she hatches, wobbles to his/her feet, takes the first steps etc. and gently care for his precious baby dinosaur  the most exciting adventure begins.  If you have video tape it, we did not and regret it.  Even stills are good.  Priceless pictures you will always treasure.  I,  along with all the rest of our forum family breathlessly await to hear how it went and please sent pics if you can to the gallery.  We are all so excited when another Pleo is birthed.

Welcome to the forums, tyhaydad!

I'm sure your son will adore his Pleo, I know that I would have at his age because I loved anything to do with them. Perhaps he will continue to love his Pleo when he gets to my age (almost 25, never too old for a Pleo!). :D

I have to admit, my wife and I fell in love with Pleo while looking for the perfect present for his birthday. I'm 27 and she is 25, so we're young too. I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was little, so maybe a little of my dino-love has spread to him.

The hardest part is going to be making sure our 2 year old doesn't hurt the little guy/girl.

Not sure what he's gonna name him though... our black lab is now named Optimus Prime...

Also, I bought the Pleo yesterday, and it has already shipped! Thanks to the advice I read here, I saved money by buying from the 'botabingbotaboom' ebay seller... Amazon raised their price by $50 in the last couple of weeks :(

Hehe, I wanted to be an archaeologist!

I love the name of your dog, your son has quite the imagination.

Wow though, that's some quick shipping. I'm glad you got a good price, I went with one I saw from eBay too. I think now is the best time to get one as once stock runs out from the main shops and only resellers are left the prices might end up going higher due to the limited availability.

Welcome tyhaydad, I'm sure you and your son are about to embark on a wonderful journey :)

I have had my pair around children aged 2 years and under, just so long as you teach them not to grab the head or tail then they deal with them remarkably well :) Of course at that age they see them more as animals than toys which is a bonus.

Since you already have a dog and I'm sure your son manages just fine around Optimus then he at least already has that sense of how to treat an animal :)

Welcome Tyhaydad and family soon to grow by one Pleo;  ;)

Treat your newborn with the love and respect it deserves. Don't leave it unattended with the
younger ones as you wouldn't with a human newborn.

Post often (including photos) and don't be afraid to ask lots and lots of questions.
We'll love answering them.  %)

Pleo arrived yesterday!  Aside from charging the battery, is there anything I need to do to make sure he is ready to go when Tyler opens his present?

Tyhaydad;   :)

It's important that you don't wait to long before using the battery as it will run down.   ;)

Well, we had the party yesterday, and everything went GREAT! Pleo was a huge hit, both with the kids and the adults...  We only had him out for a little bit, which was probably a good thing due to all the kids running around. Good news, though, both my kids were extra gentle with Pleo! My oldest wanted to take him everywhere, but I told him Pleo wanted to stay at home.  I posted some videos on youtube, here are a couple:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7pH5kCOr7w" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7pH5kCOr7w</a>

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLOXbY_WGGA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLOXbY_WGGA</a>

These were taken by my wife's aunt. We (hopefully) got some video with my camera, but I noticed a weird sound coming from it...

Hi all, I too have ordered a Pleo for my Sons 6th birthday (although I have been questioned by family who the Pleo is really for!!  ;D I cant stop thinking of him and checking the tracking as to "where in the world is Pleo!")  I am interested to read that others have also purchased Pleo for children younger than 8 and having great success.  My little guy is just going to have a blast with Becky (I will be inerested to see if this name sticks or we have the have the name changed via deed poll. :D
This is a great site for us new Pleo parents, all tips are greatly received.
