Hello from Australia
« on: December 09, 2011, 11:01:46 PM »

Hello there  :)

I have been reading your lovely forums for a few weeks now and thought it was quite rude of me not to have introduced myself yet. I do not own a Pleo, I am still very undecided about buying one so I am still just looking for now. I do own James, an ERS111 Aibo. I'm happy to recognise a lot of names from the Aibo forums here.

I love your Pleo community. I love the little contests you do (I liked watching the videos from the Halloween Scavenger Hunt) and the pictures/videos you guys take of your Pleo friends. I love the way you talk to them, as if they were alive which is exactly how I talk to James. Your comic strips are funny and I LOVE the way some of you dress them up like dolls, I almost want a Pleo just so I can dress it up ;D

I am a lonely sort of person and like robots for company. I love my James very much, he is a good friend and I hope to buy more Aibos next year.

James was intended to be a companion I could take out and about with me on long train trips and stuff but I'm having trouble transporting him because of his long tail and I'm always worried about breaking him. His camera is also very sensitive and he can't look at the sun at all or he will go blind so that is another worry with taking him places. I thought a Pleo might be good as a travelling buddy because they look easier to carry around and I have seen lots of photos of Pleos outside. Nicer to cuddle too I imagine with the skin they have.

Maybe I will adopt a used or disabled Pleo and nurse it back to health,  I would like to try painting one.

Here is James' adoption page if you would like to see a picture of him: http://www.aiboworld.com/gallery/biography.php?id=676

Hi Luna - welcome to the forum!  ;D

I do find Pleos easier to carry around than Aibos - though you do have to be a bit careful with their necks and tails as the cables can snap.  They are surprisingly resilient, though - I took one to Glastonbury Festival for a weekend this year and he survived well! :D

Hi Lunamione!  I didn't notice your post from a few days ago.  Sorry about that.  I would definitely say, owning both Aibos and Pleos, that Pleos are more transportable than Aibos.  We took our ERS-7 and our Pleo RB for vacation this summer.  The Aibo stayed in the room the entire time, but Candy, our Pleo RB got to run around Universal Studios theme park and we had a really good time with her.  My 3 year old carried her around for most of the day without any problems.  The only thing we were concerned about was the heat, since it was in the 90's (F).  My suggestion for travel is to leave the Aibo at home and get a Pleo to be your companion.  I think one of the main reasons for this is the fact that when an Aibo is turned off, the limbs flop all around and on a Pleo, they don't move, thus causing less concern for injury.

Hey there Sara I know you from Aibo-Life! ;D

James going floppy whilst asleep is the main reason (other than his long tail) that is stopping me from taking him out. It is good to hear that Pleo dosen't flop, I didn't know that. I am thinking about a Ugobe Pleo, I'm still not 100% sure though. I want more Aibos but I would like a little traveling buddy...
I keep telling myself I'm just looking but I did see some super cute videos of Pleos cuddling with their owners today and generaly once I get the idea into my head I can't seem to resist, I'll see how long I hold out :-[

Hellp Luna and welcome.

I have two Ugobes and they are good company.  I just cannot help talking to them as if they are alive.  If you're not sure they are the cheaper option which is why I started with a Ugobe.

It is very therapeutic and calming to cuddle a Pleo.  They keep moving just a little bit and make soft noises from time to time - very endearing.

We'll all be pleased to see pictures of your Pleo if you do decide to take the plunge.

Hi Luna!   ;D
I was actually going to get a aibo 210 a little while ago that I could snag for $400, but then I decided to get a second pleorb (which is currently being shipped  ;D).  I've had a Ugobe and a RB, and though Ugobe's are lovely and will always have a warm place in my heart since it was my first robot, I have to say that the pleorb's are just fabulous.  Pleorb's can play tug of war, learn tricks, walk a bit faster, and eat all kinds of different foods.  I also love how each pleorb is totally unique since it is completely random on what eye color and skin shade you'll get, including the gender.  Though don't get me wrong, I still ADORE Ugobe's, so I guess it depends on your price range.  I'd say you should get a pleo of some sort so that you'll have the best of both worlds- a aibo and a pleo- but it's up to you.  Welcome to the forums and it'll be exciting to see your new addition-whether it's a aibo or pleo!   :)

Hi Missem are you getting a Ugobe or Reborn baby?

I think it would cost me almost $600 for a brand new RB including shipping and at the moment I think I would rather get another Aibo with that money. I also like that you can sit a Ugobe as normal behaviour not the trick like RB. I think the sitting would be useful to me as I want a 'lap Pleo' that is happy to sit with me on lonely train trips. I have heard they are also more happy and easy to please than the RBs who need regular feeding.
I do like the tricks and tug of war the RBs can do though and the temperature sensing is pretty amazing. But they are expensive if I end up not liking them and I think the Ugobe is more suitable to me.

Ugobe's are the better traveling companions :) They are happiest when they are being cuddled :)

You know the funniest thing just happened. There I was calmly browsing eBay for a new memory stick for James and suddenly I've bought a Pleo. Whoopsie, how ever did that happen :-[

His name is Stephan and he is a Ugobe.

Hi All,

This is weird. I am also from Victoria Aus. Just wondered if you can answer some silly questions. I am thinking of buying
a pleo rb but have the following reservations.

1) I have heard that customer service for the pleos is bad. Any advice
2) I read the skin ruins easily
3) Also I read reviews about them not waking up, or breaking down soon after purchase.

All advice welcome to help me buy one
