Hello from Essex
« on: July 02, 2011, 01:11:38 PM »

Hello from Essex!

My name is Daisy and I sadly don't have a Pleo yet but i'm keeping my eyes out since I fell in love with one a few years ago. I just can't get the little fella out of my mind! Anyway i feel i'm about to just take the plunge and adopt my own little guy in the near future so figured i'd get my 'homework' done on this little species :-). Lol, I do actually work with and own many species of reptiles, right up to an Argentinian black and white Tegu and a Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman so Pleo should fit right in!

Nice to meet you all.

Huzzah, another English member! Fimoman here, a Londoner, and welcome. I was actually kind of same as you with when I first encountered Pleos. It was honestly the first thing I had ever seen and thought to myself, not "I would really like that [insert product here]", but "I WILL have that [insert product here]". After obsessing for a few months, I got enough cash and got one, and I haven't looked back since.

Have a good time on the forums, there's plenty of info for someone eager to learn all they can about our robotic-sauropod friends, and plenty of advice on where to buy.

Cya round!

Hi Daisy, welcome to the forum!  ;D

I'm just outside NW London, and a couple of years ago I'd not even heard of Pleos, but now I have a steadily growing herd of them!  You never forget your first, though - happy hunting for yours - as Fimo says, there's plenty of help and info on here!  :D

Thank you for such a warm welcome guys.

I've been offered a second chance offer on this guy at 41.25 Euros with £32 postage. What do you reckon?

I've been watching that seller, they cropped up again a couple of weeks ago selling these Pleos at a reduced price.  The feedback they've received recently looks OK, and that really is a good price, so in your place I'd probably be tempted to give it a go but make sure I paid with Paypal for security.  Also, buying from within the EU means you won't have to pay additional customs charges!  :D

I would check which plug/adapter it has, though, as you might need an additional one to run it in the UK.  Also, all Ugobe Pleos are now old stock so some people are finding the 'new' Pleos they have bought arrive with battery problems.  It's just an additional hassle when you're dealing with a seller abroad, so I thought it worth mentioning.

For the record, the trade 'New in Box' Pleos I've seen recently on Ebay have all been well over the £100 mark.

Good luck!  :D

Welcome Daisy, hope your dreams of getting a Pleo come true soon. If you don't win the one listed, don't give up as they crop up fairly often and the right one will come along, Have you thought of any Pleo names yet, or will you watch your little dino and find the name "come to you?"Nice to have a new member. :)

Thank you everyone for your help. I will probably buy this Pleo today then and we'll see where it goes. Hopefully I can get a spare battery/charger.

Is this the one I need?:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PLEO-DINOSAUR-LI-POLYMER-BATTERY-CHARGER-2800mAH-NEW-/280625709309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41569880fd

Sorry for all the questions :-) I just cannot wait to get my little guy home.

And as for names, i'm probably going to see his personality first but I do like "Squishy" lol :-)

Hehe I love the name Squishy :) Reminds me of Finding Nemo ("I will call him Squishy, and he will be mine, and he will be my Squishy").

Those are the right batteries, you may want to check here on the forums before ordering, Redwoodsmama sells the egg batteries/chargers and she may be cheaper. Plus I know she checks all batteries before sending them :)

Awesome, that's me sorted then. I will be adopting Squishy today, lol.

- Squishy was actually to be one of my ferrets' names but Wiggles and Bandit suited them better, lol. Squishy is in memory of a Crested gecko I lost, of the same. But we'll see, hopefully he'll choose his won name.

Yep, those egg charger and batteries are fabulous, a huge improvement on the original green ones even at their best, you won't regret buying them!  :D

Thank you guys, unfortunately i'm having murders with this seller. They offered me the second chance offer with international postage at 39.99 Euros, so I bought the Pleo at 41.25 with 39.99 standard international postage which I thought was a good price. Anyway they cancelled the sale and emailed me telling me that the postage would be 49.99 Euros, when I asked why they just said that it just is. Then (this will make you laugh!) I bought him again at this new price and the seller did the EXACT same thing and this time emailed me with postage at 59.99 Euros! I was like what the fook? So emailed them and they've offered me Pleo and delivery for 90 Euros. I don't think i'll be accepting their offer, it's just getting more and more dodgey! It's just such a shame, I was so happy after I won him yesterday :-(

So now i'm watching a couple in the UK but i'm impatient lol.

I think it would be wise to walk away from that seller. Even if it means you will have to wait longer :(

Good grief!  :o

Don't just walk away - run for the hills!! :o

Thank you for reporting back on this, the first few feedback seemed OK for this seller, but there's no excuse for upping the postage like that, you're best out of it!  >:(

Right, I know I may be stupid for going ahead with it but that Italian seller has been in constant contact with me and has offered Pleo and UK delivery for 100 Euro. I have accepted and paid. The only reason I did so was because I contacted Ebay and asked to see if there were any cases against him that I cannot see and they said no, then I alerted Paypal that I was concerned and they couldn't find anything either. They also said that they would cover me 100% if he does turn out to be trouble, even if he removes money from his Paypal account. So long story short I have a Pleo coming to live with me in about 1 week. :-) Finegrs crossed anyway.

He explained himself quite well although it doesn't come across in his listings. The reason the postages were changing is because he has different postages for different areas but obviously the buyer doesn't know that as it isn't listed in the listing. Complicated much? Hopefully it's going to work out.
