Cosmetic differences in Pleos, skin measurements.
« on: June 19, 2011, 06:51:44 PM »

I know this seems like a strange topic esp if you do not have more than one or two Pleos or Pleo Rb perhaps to take comparisons or measurements with. What I am talking about is a purely cosmetic difference but I find it interesting because I haven't seen it discussed yet. I assumed that Pleos and perhaps the Rb as well were painted by machine but I am convinced that the originals were painted by hand, at least their faces as I see differences in myne, not in color, but the measurements of the area around the eye and below the eye.If you look at the following photos you will see what I am talking about. I would be interested to see if anyone else has noticed this in their Pleo or Pleo rb as well,  :)
I have 14 Pleos and have not checked three of them, Humpty who is working but in pieces and two that are boxed. I did not measure Nova or Little 45 as I have repainted them and do not want to take the chance I altered any original measurements. I have noticed I have several pleos that have very short measurements below the eye where the green ( below the light tan of the eye ) stops at or almost at top lip level. I also have a couple that stops at the lower lip level and two that stop BELOW the bottom lip level.
The other thing I measured and thought interesting is the triangular light tannish area around the eyes. In a couple of my Pleos it is more pointed , long or is a larger area then other Pleos , and in one Pleo is very short in the back behind the eye, where most of my Pleos the tannish area extends almost to the first neck section at very end of head, one is is very short. This may be difficult for some to understand if you only have one Pleo, but I think it would be interesting to take a photo of just your Pleos head with a good closeup of the eye area so I can compare other people's Pleos. My shortest pleo's measurement was just short of 1/4 inch and the longest measurement was just short of 1/2 inch, quite a difference I think! Here are some photos and I used a peice of cardboard in some of the photos so you could see where the paint stops for comparison of what I mean.  :)

and my RB,

I will try and take some new photos one of two with a couple of Pleos side by side facing each other so it is easier to see what I mean, one short and one longer meausrement.

That is pretty neat.

I really like all the little ways they make each RB different. Even the tiny differences, like, as you say, the facial colours, give each one its own look.
I wish they had done the same thing with the Ugobes. When the paint really starts to wear, I am totally gonna do some custom jobs.

That's quite interesting RWM - I wonder if there's a way of telling how the paint has changed over time, or if it's just random.  When I get back from Glastonbury I'll pull all my 'bricked' Pleos out of their boxes and take pics of the paint for you.  Some of mine are obviously early versions as they have the earlier red plastic mouth parts that showed the chipped teeth so badly - can you work out the age of any of yours that way?

You have my full permission to remind me of this when I get back next week.  Kick me if necessary!  ;)

That is a good question Crewella, I had't thought of the tonuge or mouth and will have to go check it out. I can look at the serial number and from what I was told as to how old some of my Pleos are. For example, I know Argyle is very old and also Gumble but not as old as Gold Hatch who was one of the first 2, 000 ever made. I will look at him and check out paint and body parts and take photos. also Mike has Bob to take photos of and Fancy has a early one too I believe.  :) Yes, I will remind you when you get back....just remember to come back! ;)

This is very interesting. I wonder though could it be that perhaps the odd-shaped area around the eye was dew to the pleo skin being positioned incorrectly during painting? I've always wondered about how they are assembled and how long the process takes. Probably a trade-secret though. Lol!
