Wow! the python pleo looks great too! Who was the python again? Or was it a non-named that was gotten specifically to be painted? I love the little mouse, my friend has a baby python and she wanted my science fair mice to feed to her snake when i was looking for someone to take them :) she got a foutene cookie after that saying " you joke now, wait until you get home" and I said a bird was gonna eat her snake, irronically, nothing happened to the snake, but the mice got loose in my garrage.  :o :o :o maybe i should have given her the mice... oh well, python pleo looks great!

Whoever said the world is gonna end in 2012 is an idiot, it's not because my cookies' expiration date is 1013, ha!

OK, I think!  :D

These were the Latex paints I got:

But the paint IS really thick - you can see from the bottle that you can apply them straight out of the nozzle at the end.  That is too thick for Pleo painting, so I had a go at thinning it down by mixing up the colour I wanted using the Stretchi yellow paint and the FW acrylic ink in yellow ochre, as they are both water based, to make a thinner consistency.  It was still harder to apply evenly than the inks were, and I had to use a thinner brush than before to get any sort of control over it.  I'm leavng it a good 24 hours now!

I've not named him yet, though OH insists the only possible name is Monty!! :P

He was a Pleo I'd bought as bricked but managed to get going.

Monty is the perfect name for him  :D  Your OH is completely right on that one. :)
It will be interesting to see how it goes with the yellow.  I hope it works.  I am still waiting for my paints to be delivered.  They assure me they were sent but still no package for me. :(  Fingers crossed they get here soon.  I'm surprised they are taking so long to arrive as they are coming from Melbourne - same country as me just the other side of it.  The things I have ordered from overseas have gotten here faster than these darn paints. :P
This is the site I ordered mine from
http://www.dalchem.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=356&Itemid=320
Are these the same as yours do you think?
It will be interesting to see just how thick they are when they get here.

I still want to know more about these oil paints RWM is using.  I was afraid to try oil paints as I worried about removing them if it went wrong.  I assume you would need to use turps to get them off and I am afraid of what that would do to delicate pleo skin.  It is all very interesting.

Can't wait till my latex paints arrive so I can have another go. :)

Your latex paints do sound much the same as the ones I got, Kat.   :)

http://www.propbuilder.co.uk/howto/

As they are water based, I can't see why you shouldn't water them down, but by golly they dry quickly even then!!  :o

Hope yours get there soon!  :D

Okay I'm personally done waiting. I'm not a patient person. I'm gonna buy myself some paint for my Pleos. Which paints work? I'm making a list. lol Artists Acrylic Ink, Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic Ink, Daler Rowney Acrylic Ink and Speedball Acrylic Ink work right? What else (other paints)? Thank you!

Monte does look great and a perfect name Crewella, As for the Acrylic paint, it is very very thick and super hard to apply sometimes esp after the first layer, touching up with Acylic paint is one thing, a whole body is entirely another story. As for getting it off, I used a kitchen scrub brush and plain water with one drop of liquid dish soap and off it came, but the easy part was only the stuff I had applied in less than 12 hrs, The stuff I applied more than 24 hrs before, harder and I had to use my finger nails to scrape off stuff near smaller areas like eyes, nose, mouth and the feet still have some areas of lavender so that should give you an idea of just how tough Acrylic paints are. And a word of warning, if you put on a protective coating, be very very sure that this is what you really want, do not want to change it later or you better be prepared for lots of hours of nail scaping but it will come off. :D
As for the Oil paints, I have never tried taking it off, so I will report back after checking on one of them , Little 45 who has most of his body done. I don't want to touch " Blue", as he is new only painted about three days ago and I like him the way he is.I will also go look at the name of the paints, though one of them is Windsor, a well known brand for years and years. It also depends on Acrylics on what level you get, Level one is cheaper and less pigment so better results but easier to remove Level three or professional has the most pigment and tougher to remove. And Kristy, go for it, I can only do my painting of Pleos mostly during the week when my husband is at work, he demands all my attention on the weekends so I get very little Pleo stuff done. ;)
And Kat, can't wait to see what happens to Gumble!

RWM try sticky tape to peel the paint off, it worked nicely on Stitch to peel of the test patch I did.

Monty is just the perfect name for him Crewella ;D

Kat I've sent parcels to Perth that have taken over two weeks :( For some reason it is geriatric snail mail :P Hope they arrive soon. When the bills stop piling up I will also order some Latex paints, that will be three different brands that have been tested so we might find one works better than the others.

Oh Crewella! I love the name Monty!  Holy Grail is one of my favorites!  I have to dig up my Killer Rabbit slippers now. I got them a few years ago when we went to see Spamalot in New York.  They must be buried in my closet.  I might have to watch that this weekend!  He does indeed look great!  I hope his paint doesn't peel around the neck this time!  ;D

OK, so Little Brown Job/Chocolate Coated Pleo/Python Pleo is now officially named - Monty it is!  ;D  Thanks guys, though OH was right, I don't think I could have called him anything else!!  :D

The layer of Stretchi latex paint on his neck is looking good - I'm having the hardest time resisting switching him on to see how it holds up!  %)

ADDED:

So I gave in!  :P

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMANKog6_Xs" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMANKog6_Xs</a>

The stretchi paint seems to have held up pretty well on the neck so far.  Even watered down it's very gloopy and I wouldn't fancy using it as an all-over color.  For me, this was the best result: using acrylic inks to do the main body colour and latex paint for the 'joint' areas on the neck and tail that get the most stress and movement.

Monty has had enough of being a case study, he says he's done.  He grabbed a leaf and went off in search of adventure!  :P

Monty looks good Crewella, Glad the inks and paints have worked out, Were the watered down Acrylic Stretch paints still hard to work with? How long did you dry the neck area before turning him on? Did the dreaded watercloth test come out good? You are right, those paints are tough to work with, I do love the way he looks. What is your next project, any idea yet or are you taking a break? Glad Monty got his leaf, he had a lot of testing. :)

Thanks guys, I do have EVERYTHING crossed!  :D

I left the Stretchi paint over 12 hours to go off before I switched him on, so although I would have preferred to leave it 24 hours I think it had long enough.  I just couldn't wait any longer!  :P

The Stretchi latex paint is a lot harder to work with, even thinned out with water/acrylic ink as I used it here.  It sits on the brush rather than soaking into it so when you're applying it you have to keep reloading.  It's more like you put a dollop on the surface and then spread it to where you want it to go.  And it dries super fast.  ???

I had never planned to go 'creative' and do custom paint jobs, so I don't know if I'll do another.  For one thing, I kind of like my crew as they are, so I'd have to paint one of my 'bricked/mended' Pleos, which would mean I'd end up keeing them.  If I'm not careful I'll end up with a herd of multi-hued Pleos taking over my house!!  :o   :P

Well guys, will be doing some more Pleo painting very soon, just needed a break and took awhilel to get the rest of the paint, or should I say INKS off . I didn't have the sticky notes IMR, but I did use some Sesame Oil, and it worked really fabulous, took off lots of paints and ink particles and left Pleo soft and supple preparing him or her for next paint or ink job, may be a surprise.  :) Now just have to decide which one to do this time.

Can't wait to see what you come up with, RWM!  ;D

I forgot to say the dreaded washcloth test came out fine for the stretchi paints.  In fact, I'm a bit wary of rubbing too hard with the inks as some areas of Iggy seemed to take the colour better than others, but the stretchi paints felt absolutely watertight.  I'm sure the key is preparation - any grease or dirt on the skin (from skincare/polishes or even just petting) will make it harder for the inks to adhere properly.

Kristy, it's still early days yet - I don't think any of us can say for sure which one brand of paints/inks really work.  I've had the best results with inks on the main body and latex paint on the 'creases'.  It's all still very much an experiment, but if you do go for it, good luck and keep us updated on how you get on.  :D

Ok so I am hoping this paint will work and have gone the whole hog and done him all over in orange. :)  This is kind of two coats.  The first coat I did was very transparent and as it was drying it looked much much darker than when I put it on so I quickly mixed in some white to my orange to tone it down a bit and did another coat over the top.  So here it is.  Monster maker latex paints.  I mixed the yellow and red and then added in some white.  I didn't add anything to it to thin it out as it was very thin already.  Applying it was just like applying the inks - same consistency.  Gumble is still wet in these photos and I will leave him till tomorrow night before I turn him on.  If all goes well then he will get another coat in this color tomorrow before another drying period and another color for his highlights.  Fingers crossed it all goes well. ;D
