IMR, you are right, that is what I meant to say. Reminds me of the Cheetah on Cheetos Cheese Puffs, lean and cute. very nice job IMR, Really makes me want to get down to work, but I have a Daisy Cat to catch right now which is much more important and I will get Pleo Painting when I have caught Daisy or just have more "down" time. No hurry, even if I just do a few strokes here and there, it will get done. Besides I can enjoy everyone else's pleo painting in the meantime. ;)

I did get cheetah - I liked the eye markings, which were the biggest clue along with the 'solid' spots, I thought!  :D

Of course, a cheetah. Silly me.  :-[ I knew leopard wasn't quite right but it was all my befuddled brain could think of after far too long a day at work.  The facial markings should have twigged me. That's why I find it so appealing; cheetahs have always been one of my favorites of the wild cats. Wow, I must have been more tired last night than I realized.

I'm not sure you'd want your Pleos to be able to run that fast. Imagine the trouble they could get into before you could catch them.  :o

I have had Gumble running quite a bit this week and I think I have been able to really test out the new paint.  It doesn't seem to be holding up very well I'm sorry to say.  The combination of ink and latex paint seems to be rubbing off more easily than the straight latex paint did.  He has a few little patches on his nose that have rubbed off and there is a patch on his side where the paint is also worn away - I think I must rub one of my fingers here when ever I pick him up :P, He is also loosing paint on his toe where he rubs it against his chin in his sleep.
I am going to clean him off and try again.  This time I am going to try a latex and acrylic mix and see how that goes.  I do think the latex is definitely on the right track and the closest we have come so far to finding the right paint.
I am going to try to do the same or very similar colors as I don't think I have had enough time to really explore and enjoy this new look on him properly yet.

Kat , so sorry to hear and see that Gumble's new paint is starting to wear out, but it is better to find out right away and do something while you can before you don't have the time to try and redo it. Perhaps you are right about the type or amount of paint you have used. You have to remember that we all live in different climates and some of us live where this combination may not wear out so fast and other climates are more unforgiving and I think this is where you and Gumble fit in.
I can really see the colors he has a lot more in these latest photos, he actually looks less blue than I thought. At first I thought it was one of Crewella's Pleos....looking rather brownish! Even if Gumble's paint is wearing off, he did a great service this past week testing out batteries and I think he deserves a special award for bravery under fire for that. He and You and the rest of your crew alerted a lot of potential Battery Buyers to the downside of those "Fraudulent" batteries, as time goes. Good job Gumble and I am sure your redo of paint will be even better. I love Gumble no matter what color he is , and I know Argyle feels the same. after all, they got to see each other in their
Birthday Suits", LOL :D         Let us know when you repaint him, can't wait to see what the percentage of paint will be this time.( Acyrilic, inks, laytex etc.)

As you know I am not one to dilly dally around and procrastinate so I promptly cleaned Gumble off yesterday and have begun his new paint job.  I am trying to stick to the same color scheme as last time but unfortunately I can't get the same dark blue from the acrylic and latex paint mix.  I have to say though that this is more of the colors I was going for when I first started on his new color scheme. :)  He is more black this time as I have both black latex and black acrylic paint to mix where as last time I had to use a brown ink to mix with the black latex as I had no black ink.
I did his first coat of black as a 50 50 mix.  It didn't cover his old green completely so I have done a second coat but this time I added in more of the latex as I feel that he needed the extra stretch to the paint for the neck and tail segments that take most of the movement.  I have run him for a few short bursts just to be sure that there is no splitting and cracking and so far all seems ok.  I have done one coat of the blue highlights - including his toenails, but did add a second layer onto his eyes, head patch and tail tip. Once this dries I will tackle the lines.
Here he is so far.

And here is the finished product. :)  His lines are still wet so I wont turn him on until tomorrow.  I will leave him to dry completely over night.
I did a second lighter blue coat inside the darker blue highlights to give it a bit more depth.
Hope you like him. :)  I also hope this paint mix holds up better than the last stuff. %)

Gumble looks great!  I might try the latex paints you got Kat, because the ones I got were definitely not that long lasting!  It seems the brands make a big difference?

Ok Pleo enthusiasts, It is boring and while waiting for the new Pleo Rb contest Pleo, I resumed painting a Pleo I started about two months ago, This is step one two and the start of step three. A mixute of at least three different art materials. With the artificial lighting it is hard to tell the actual color of this pleo and it does look a lot better than in the photos, so be patient and in a few days, one to three it should be there, depending on the weather and the humidy. Hope you like it a little anyway...I was bored, but this Pleo used to be Lavender girl and got a new start. Just remember there is paint on the face around the lips that needs to come off and paint on legs that needs to be done, etc, etc.

OH, and if you see a BIG difference between the first photos and the very last one, it is not the body color paint but the lighting. The last one the only thing added is the darkish lines on the body , reddish burnt umber color, It all has to do with the first ones taken at 10:30 at night in a bathroom and the last one around 3:00 p.m today in a window with natural overcast cloudy day, but none the less, natural light. The body paint looks more bluish , but it is nothing more than tricks with the lighting, nothing else was done,

Just remember, I have quite a few steps left to go till this one is done, just thought I would show the first few steps. Now if the rain will stop in a few days I can get a honest good pic with natural sunlight.  %)

A good quality latex seems to be the best so far. Or a latex acrylic ink blend.

Eeeeek - sorry Junkroxy - I missed your question somehow!!  :o

I've used a combination of Vallejo Game acrylic inks and FW acrylic inks added to latex mask paint.

I asked Romeo what she uses. Kat, is that still the "Monster Makers" Latex? And Cruella, what are your current paints? Vallego? And "FW" Inks? What about you Redwoods? I need examples, so that I can Google it. Named/brand examples. I gotta try my hands at re-painting to make it look special/different. lol So I can search for paints for myself. Thank you alot guys!

I have used the Monster Maker Latex mask paints which work quite well and feel about right but do stretch a bit too much in the neck and tail joint sections over time and usage and the paint will bubble up in these areas and need to be peeled back and touched up.  I have had a couple of tries at finding a combination to use to combat this issue.  I tried a 50 - 50 mix of FW inks and the monster maker latex mask paints but this was unsuccessful as the paint came off too easily and it cracked and split in the neck and tail area very badly.  So I have also tried a Monster maker  latex mix with Acrylic paints which has held up better but has split along the most moveable neck and tail joints.  It has split very neatly though along the edge of two different colors so it is not always noticeable.  I did about a 50 - 50 mix with this too so maybe a mix with more latex in it would work better.  I think the latex paint is the best way to go so far.  It is just a matter of finding the right combination to put with it to stabilize the stretching without compromising the stretch ability of the paint.
Best of luck.  Let us know what you try and how it goes.   :)

Congrats on taking the Plunge into the Painting club. I have used with good success a mixture of Acrylic paints and Inks, with slight highlights of Oils and pearls dry powder. For your first attempt I would follow IMR or Kat's painting advice. It is fun no matter what the outcome and you can allways undo what you do not like.            Photos photos Photos are a must though!
