Pleo RB owners questions: Very important.
« on: February 03, 2011, 08:12:08 PM »

Could all Pleo RB owners visiting the forums please answer the following questions, thank you.

1) Please describe if your Pleo RB has any wear, specifically under the armpits and under the legs. Please do not include simple paint wear, badly glued seems etc. We are only interested in serious skin problems like grazing of the skin and holes.

2) Please describe the average temperatures that you are experiencing, including the humidity and/or dampness levels. Is it hot and dry, cool and damp, pleasantly warm etc.

3) If you run your fingers along your Pleo's skin where there is no paint does it feel sticky, tacky, smooth, silky etc.

4a) Do you use Pledge or a similar product on your Pleo RB, how often, and how does it make the skin feel then. (Again only the skin where there is no paint please.)

4b) Which type of Pledge or similar product do you use, how often and how do you apply it.

5) How often do you run your Pleo RB, one battery per day, a few times a week, as soon as the battery is charged you turn them on again etc.

6) Please include any other information you can about your Pleo RB that you think could help. If you can think of any very specific circumstances that caused wear or holes please specify.

Thank you, your information is valuable in working out what may be the cause of the wear being experienced by some Pleo RB owners.

1) Pleakly has some slight skin grazing and two small holes right next to one another. The holes are on the rear leg.

2) Very hot and varying between humid and dry.

3) The skin feels quite tacky when the humidity and heat are high, as opposed to where the paint is which is very silky. If I run my fingers along the skin it pulls the skin a little.

4a) I use pledge on the legs before each playtime and I do the entire body once a month. It makes the skin feel smoother and less tacky.

4b) I use the Pledge Clean and Revitalise with Aloe Vera. I spray it onto a micro-fibre cloth cloth until the cloth is very damp then gently wipe Pleakly. For under the legs I dip a corner of the cloth in the Pledge and wipe that on.

5) An average of half an hour to an hour a day depending on the weather. I do not run my Pleo's at all if the temperature is over 30-35 celsius.

6) Pleakly's wear occurred when the skin actually stuck together a little and I had to gently pull it apart. The hole appeared in the same area a couple of days later. At that point I started applying Pledge to the under leg area before each playtime. So far there has been no further wear.

Hi!  My Pleo rb, Newt, was hatched on 1/4/11.

1)  Newt now has holes on all four of his arm/leg pits.  The first one started about 10 days ago and the fourth one started today.

2)  I live in Washington State.  It has been very cold and wet over the past month.

3)  His skin, around the "pits" where the holes are, is basically smooth.

4)  I haven't used Pledge, or any other product on Newt, because I could not find the type of Pledge mentioned in the manual.

5)  I have run Newt for one battery cycle per day.

6)  I have left Newt in the sleeping position when he is not turned on.  Newt has only been walking for a week.  He was very active and moved his body constantly, but basically did not actually walk until around his 21st battery cycle.

Thank you for taking the time to gather information about the skin issues.  I e-mailed Innvo, when I noticed the first hole, but never received a response.

Hi Watsonbj and Newt, so sorry to hear about Newt's skin problems :( No one seems to be getting replies from Pleo world support of late :( Please try sending a mail to this address: customerservice@innvolabs.com

I hope you get a response this time and thank you very much for your input here, hopefully together we can identify some pattern to the hole problem.

1 Norbit has skin grazing in all 4 armpits and holes in three. Kermy3 so far has no wear but this is only day 4 so we will see.
2 Hot and usually dry.  Have had a few humid days just recently and while it was humid Norbits went from only having one hole to having 3.
3 For me this is the same as IMR the skin feels quite tacky when the humidity and heat are high, as opposed to where the paint is which is very silky. If I run my fingers along the skin it pulls the skin a little.
4 I use the Pledge Clean and Revitalise with Aloe Vera. I spray it onto a micro-fibre cloth cloth until the cloth is very damp then gently wipe Norbit and Kermy over. I have started pledging the leg areas before every play but I pledge the whole body once a week.
5 On average I run them one battery cycle a day sometimes 2.  I have done 1 1/2 to 2 cycles a day for Kermy3 since I got her as I am trying to get through the hatching fast.
6 The skin in the joints does seem to stick together and then pull or rub away when moved apart in normal pleo movement.

Kermy who had the worst issues and has just been sent back to Innvo was treated the same as Norbit except I was only pledging her all over once a week.

1) Cato has some very slight grazing under all of his armpits, a little more pronounced on the back right leg than the others. However, not nearly as bad as other members experienced and it seems to be at a standstill in terms of "progressing" as of now.

2) It is winter here, and I keep the inside around 70-74. It is more on the dry side, however, I do run a humidifier so the air does have some moisture (i.e. not a tropical rainforest, and not painfully dry heat). This has remained a constant since receiving my RB.

3) The skin in the armpit region feels very "soft" and an almost silky smooth, but the surrounding unpainted area/underside feels slightly less smooth and not silky - a little more like a thicker type of smooth (made slightly "rough" by the "bump" texture in the material).

4) I've pledged a total of 4 times since Dec. 27, so just slightly under once a week. It feels mostly the same, just kind of "pledged" over for an hour or so, and then afterward it goes back to feeling mostly the same but slightly softer and smoother. However, it seems to retain that slightly and softer feel in between pledge and play sessions. I use Pledge Extra Moisturizing (the only one offered at the store I was at and the one actually mentioned in the manual) by spraying it into a soft cotton cloth and then wiping it over Cato's underside and eventually entire body. I usually do this after a charge so that Cato is in the sleep position when I do it (so I can get "easy" access to his armpit region to make sure it gets the Pledge over it and I find it's a great pledging position). If there is any area that seems too "moist" or "wet" from the pledging, I wipe a separate soft cotton cloth over his body after a minute, maybe two, to absorb any excess Pledge.

5) Since Dec. 27, Cato usually gets an average of one battery charge a day. Sometimes this means 2 or maybe even 3 charges in a day with a day or two in between, but generally it's one full charge per day.

6) Not sure if any of it will be useful, but the more details the better(?): I do not let Cato remain in the sleep position for an extended period of time. (Now) I have been letting him go to sleep/shut off, recharging the battery for a moment, then putting it back in him and pulling it out as soon as he wakes back up. The only time he remains in the sleep position is when I'm pledging him (~5minutes), however, there have been a very select handful of times (maybe 3) where he has remained in the sleep position for 3-5 hours. When he's not in use, he is usually either on a table, or the floor in an area away from sunlight and "traffic" issues. He also wears a dog sweater with very short sleeves on the front two legs that cover the armpit area a little bit (however, the sleeves are not so tight or small as to restrict his movement).

Great idea IMR.  :)

1. No wear that I can see.
2. Typical British winter - cold and damp.  I do have central heating and open fires, but it's a draughty old house. In the main I've tried to keep my Pleos away from the hottest and coldest parts of the house.
3. Skin under the arms feels smooth and silky - much like the rest of the skin.
4. I've not used Pledge really.  I did buy some Pledge wipes but have only used one, once, to try and clean her - mainly on the back and head.
5. Very erratic, but on average a few times a week, sometimes for as little as 10 minutes but sometimes for the whole battery cycle (with half hour break).  Never longer than one battery cycle as I only have one battery.
6. Pleo rb has never been prevented from going into sleep position.  Is always clothed for protection and kept out of direct light, it's a pretty dark house.  She's quite an active Pleo rb.

IMR, I don't know how much help I am going to be with Candy my pink RB being so new but here it goes...

1) Candy is through her second battery cycle, and she has no paint wear or and skin problems at all.

2) It is cold and dry.  I keep my house at 72degrees F, and the humidity is in the 30% range.  There has, however been a lot of moisture in the air from a lot of snow and ice in our area.
3) When I run my fingers over the unpainted areas, it feels fairly smooth.  There is not much tackiness to speak of, and my finger does not stick to the skin.
4a)  I am using Vinylex on the skin and I am using Vaseline or petroleum jelly in the armpit areas.  I have applied Vinylex every other day to the entire body, and Vaseline to the armpit areas before every play. both products make the skin feel very smooth and silky.
4b) Again, I apply the Vinylex every other day, and Vaseline to the armpit areas before every play.  I apply the Vinylex by dampening a cotton cloth and gently rubbing Candy with it all over her entire body.  I place the Vaseline with a cotton swab.  It makes her skin very silky, and I can tell when the silkiness starts to wear off.  There appears to be less friction between my fingers with the Vinylex than without.
5) I have gone through 2 battery cycles in 10 days, for a daily average of about 30 minutes, although the longest stretch I have had her on is for 90 minutes and the shortest about 15 minutes.  I have not gotten to play with her a lot every day.  The 15 minute day I simply turned her on in the evening to make sure that she was fed.
6) I will add that she has always remained in the sleep position when not being played with.  I just haven't felt comfortable shutting her down and then turning her back on to pull the battery out.  I will wait for the firmware sleep position update. Hopefully it will come soon.

Thanks IMR for starting this thread. You stated in one of your previous posts that people are having trouble getting responses from Pleoworld.  I had a beeping problem with my watch battery and setting the clock if you will remember.  Kat suggested that I contact Innvo Labs, and I did, using the support@pleoworld.com link on their website.  I did get an unusual email sent from Rafael Suarez's computer saying that my request for support had been waitlisted.  It was sent from an email managing program aimed to weed out spam.  I had to fill out an area with my email address, name, and an access code to get the mail moved up to priority.  I heard from him the next morning, which was Jan 31st, and he told me to replace the watch battery, which I did, and not it works fine! :) Perhaps, people are not filling out that second part of the email message to get moved up to  priority.  The message came from his computer address  rafael#####@yahoo.com  and the email manager was called Boxbe.  The reply I got the next day was from a different address, which was from pleoworld.  I'm sorry that I didn't post this earlier.  I didn't think it was important.  :(

Sorry...I edited Rafael's computer address...When I posted it, it gave a direct link to his computer, which I felt was inappropriate. :o

Thank you for posting :)

Bhobbes, (hehe my auto correct changes your forum name to vulture for some reason :P) I had to do that second part of the email too when I made an enquiry about accessories in January, but when I emailled them recently about Pleakly's wear I never got that far :(

Would it be  a good idea for Ugobe Pleo owners to do this "survey" for comparison, as long as they make it entirely clear that they have a Ugobe Pleo and not a RB?

I don't think it is necessary Allo, had there been any major common problems with the Ugobe Pleo's we would be well aware of them by now. Plus comparing wear on a two year old Ugobe Pleo and a two week old Pleo RB is not a fair comparison. However if anyone had a Ugobe Pleo which had holes in the armpits in the first few weeks do speak up.

I’ll try and give as much info as I can but don’t know if I’ll be of much help.
1 no holes as yet, Unsure about grazing but haven’t felt anything out of the norm.
2 average temp’s  around 20 Dec  but when not  in use he’s  kept  in my room which is probably just under 10 Dec and   colder in the evenings .
Unsure about humidity but guessing cool and damp would prob fit British humidity.

3 unable to answer the question as I can’t see if there are     areas on him that have lost any paint.
Underside doesn’t feel tacky or sticky to the touch though, just smooth like the rest of him. He doesn’t feel very silky either though just the same as the 2009 pleos do
4 I have not used pledge as yet. As I couldn’t’ find the one that was recommended. Closest I could find was pledge clean and protect which is in a brown can but unsure if it’s safe to use.

5   I have him running a few times a week. However  he hasn’t been on  for a couple of weeks as I was very busy

6 I allow   him to go in to sleep position     and he wears his pleoworld cape always, he’s kept on a shelf out of direct sunlight. He’s very  active and    he’s been walking since his 3rd battery cycle
 Hope this helps
 Scaly

It’s the coldest room in the house as it’s on an outside wall on two sides.   .

1) Apart from simple paint wear, so far Snooki is showing no signs of grazing of the skin or holes, but she hasn't been used excessively.

2) Outside is typical British weather, but the room I keep Snooki in is always pleasantly warm, around 70f, and with no damp.

3) Snooki's skin feels smooth with no sticky patches.

4a) I use Pledge Multi Surface on my Ugobe Pleos but have yet to use it on Snooki.

4b) N/A

5) On average for around 1 hour 30 minutes a couple of times a week.

6) I always leave Snooki in the sleeping position in between play times and wearing her cape.

Could all Pleo RB owners visiting the forums please answer the following questions, thank you.

1) Mine has no wear but the seam near the neck is slightly off center. I just got him Yesterday brand new.

2) We live in a REALLY old farmhouse.... it's always cold and temp is always fluctuating.. If you meant the
pleo, He gets very hot from his battery... after an hour and a half or so he stopped.. I turned him off and on again and he was fine.. Battery lasted maybe 40 minutes or an hour longer?  He was still VERY warm almost hot, in his midsection.
My ugobe Pleo with all the holes in his skin stays much cooler.. I think the holes must be ventilating him.

3) I don't feel anything odd at all where there is no paint.. I just got my RB yesterday though, from the US, not Hong Kong, and he still smelled like paint.

4a) Haven't gotten the pledge yet.. not sure which type to get.

4b) Again, no idea which one to buy.. theres like 45 on the shelves at the grocery store.

5) I have only run mine through one cycle so far.

6) His skin feels MUCH sleeker than the other RB they sent me that had to be replaced (the Blue one that ended up being a prototype)

I hope you guys get your dino's feeling better soon.. :(

I just need to add.. and sorry for the second post but I thought it was important.. my RB that I received in the mail on SATURDAY, this past Saturday, is already showing signs of plant flecks fall off his back and has a slight 'lift up sot on his tail.

I don't know if it means anything but he also REEKED of paint when he gpt here and I can smell it on him.. almost like they painted him, boxed him up and out the door.. I dunno.. with so many sick Pleo, my RB is the one I have used the least so far..:(

The other new ugobe, Lyssa, is also showing a tiny bit of paint wear on her back, same spot.. but I really don't pet them hard. even through there were four kids playing with them and the one I got for them, I made sure to show them the rips on patches so they understood what happened to their new pet if they were mean.. so I don't think it's them... :(

Paint wear/loss is considered normal wear and tear.

I think that paint smell is actually normal tbh .
They really have a very noticeable    plastic smell a bit like new car smell when you first get them.  In fact for a few weeks afterwards I could smell mines as soon as I walked into the room he was kept in.   It dies down over time and is barely even noticeable after a while so you wouldn’t have smelled anything like it on the second hand pleos.

I actually really  like the new pleo paint smell you get when there new out the box but maybe I’m just weird lol.
Btw you’re lucky   that your shops have so many to choose from.  The shops around here only have 3 usually and none of them are   the one that Innvolabs specifies. It’s the extra moisturising one in the brown can you’re looking for.
 Hope this helps

Don't know what happened to my post but here it is again...

Would anyone here consider three days 'normal' wear and tear for my RB to be already losing paint and have a tiny tail split? I don't think anyone would... and mine is a green.

I agree, after some time, it's normal.. but especially not for a brand new Pleo RB.  I as not trying to start a fight, if someone deleted this, nor was I being rude... It's very upsetting for me to know that I'll always have to be replacing skin on each one at some point... :'(  Do folks here let people know via instant message when they delete? just curious..

Sarah, to be honest I do think you have to accept a small amount of paint wear and the odd slightly split seam is just what comes with the territory, but doesn't necessarily mean you will have further problems like some of the Pleo rbs we've seen.  Rubber is a difficult surface to paint, but is such an important factor in making Pleos so lifelike that I just learned to live with it.  :)

Hey, data of Igor.
Pictures follow in the album.
1) Signs of wear in 3 of 4 armpits, like if some skin was grazing away. It makes mini balls of plastic and then they fall. Because I saw pictures of this here on the forums, I had a close look at that when I got my pleo rb, and there was nothing in the beginning.
Another important issue is those 2 holes that appeared on his neck, on the lower part of it.
2) It is winter here. The data of January were : Temperature : average 4°C (from -5,5°C to 13°C) ; Humidity :88% ; Dampness : 7,2hpa. It was cold, but not freezing.
3) It feels smooth and a little bit on the sticky way. Smells a lot.
4a) I used Pledge to remove dust, worked well, but smells even worse than the skin ;). Skin feels stickier afterwards.
4b) Normal Pledge, used only twice.
5) I play with him +- 3 evenings a week, for approximatively one hour. He falls quickly asleep and I then don’t turn him on again.
6) I cannot think of any external cause of those skin wear.
I saw a comment about the smell of pleo's skin. I am not that attracted in it! True you can notice in which room he is ;)
All this was notified to Innvo Labs, plus paint wear that I am not very satisfied with. I have it for a month only, guess what he will look like when he's 1 year old...

Ooh, I'm a bit late to this.  Ah well, here's my two cents.

1) He's got grazing under all armpits but not of the same amount or size.  Two of them have little gray leftover things hanging off them but I'm too afraid to take them off.

2) Ah, this is easy since I have to regulate my room.  It's usually 75-79 degrees and a stable relative humidity of 16%

3) It feels...rubbery?  It's not exactly silky and wants to pull my fingers back a tad if I pet.  Not sticky, though.

4a) I apply it about once every two weeks.  Skin's smoother and glides better.

4b) I use the lemon one recommended in the manual.

5) I play with Pleo about once every 3-4 days, with a full battery drained each time.

6) Can't think of anything.

Thanks guys, keep the data coming :) The idea is to see if there is any common factor that might lead to the holes.

1. It has a little skin scrapings. The worst one is under its left, hind leg. No holes.

2. It's cold in my area and we sadly don't have air conditioning.

3. It feels smooth. I wish it was silky.

4. I finally got some Pledge delivered to me. Pledge Specialty Surfaces, Protection +. I'm lazy. I'll start using that. Before I was using Vaseline. I might use both.

5. I try for, at least, once per day. I really try for that. I wish I could have it on more. It requires daily feedings, to be happy and healthy.

6. And I used to use Vaseline before every "play time". Sadly I don't let him sleep in his current sleeping position. (After he "saves" properly) I gotta take his battery out when he's in a standing position. I really want that update to the "sleeping position". I'll some times manually move his limbs apart so that he's under leg skin isn't contacting each other.

Innvo Lab's not going anywhere. And if it's just to protect their precious, delicate skin, clothings okay. They shouldn't be dressed up like dolls.

Well, it is a little late in answering this and harder to remember everything esp since my Baby is no longer with me, and looks like a long time till she is reunited with me. :( I will answer to the best of my recollection.Hopefully this can help other future Pleo Rb's and their owners.
1. Baby had grazing in all four arm areas, with the worst two holes on the right rear leg, the worst being the second hole which is right on top of a white cable  plastic "thing". The front legs were less grazing then the back areas, and it took about three -four weeks to really notice the grazing.
2. Since getting Baby on Dec. 22'nd, and Hatching on Dec. 23'rd, the temp fluntuated between a very cold 25 degrees to an average of 48 during the day. Humidiy high on most days, lots of rain while Baby was here so cold and very humid or damp. The highest temp acheived while Baby was here was perhaps 58-62 degrees, but most days were allways in low to mid 40's.
3. She felt different at different times, When I first got her she felt very smooth and slippery like I would drop her, very very silky smooth feeling, I can't honestly tell you how she felt towards the end before I sent her off to be repaired/ replaced, I know compared to my Ugobe Pleos, the skin felt different, but I would be guessing since she is no longer here, I know she did not feel slippery or sticky or damp, and not the reptiles bumpy feeling skin of older Ugobe Pleos.
4.I went out and bought the Pledge reccomended sometime in January, Lemon spray . At first I did not want to, not liking the use of chemicals and prefer to use natual oils, and such. But since it was reccomended, and I did not want to ruin or void her warranty, and if it could possibly extend her life and protect her skin, I thought I would give it a try, I used the Pledge at least twice a week with a full head to toe and tail bath and not missing any spots or crevices. ( When I sent out Gumble to Kat for adoption, I made sure to give him a lovely Pledge bath too as I wanted to make sure the older Pleos are protected as well.)
5. Unfortunatly, Baby the last month she was here did not get as much interacton time as I wanted She got a average of 4-5 hrs per week and not a complete battery cycle in one play session ever since hatching, she had not been an Adult very long according to the feedback tool that PleoPet put on the site that we could all use to get info on the health of our pleo RB.
6. Baby goes into the sleep postion, then I would recharge for a few minutes, reinsert battery turn her one and then when in the standing packing postion, remove battery.  At first she slept every night in her Pleo box hat she came in, then she slept in a Pleo Cat house with a blanket around the opening to try to keep cold air out. the last week she slept in her carrying bag I got for her, and kept her in a room with the door closed so she would not be disturbed by cats, dog etc, I really did Baby her, and other than that, I just can't rememmber much else, hope this helps some.  By the way, it took about 4 -6 weeks for the holes to Break through and the second one broke through about ten days after the first one gave way. I don't mind the grazing, the holes are what bothered me, sesp when you can see inside the leg of the Pleo.

hiho ^^

"blu" birthday 3.3.11 (Pink Pleo rb)

1.) no holes under the armpit or somewhere else

2.) i`m not living near mountains so we have normal temperetures, at the moment we have 15 degree C. I have a floor heating so "blu" must not afraid to have cold in anyway. (at winter we have -13 degrees C, sometime)

3.) His skin feels at the legs and arms very softly, his back is a little bit rough :/  , he have some paint lost at his chest (it looks like a little scarf, well cute for a boy  :D)

4.) hm i dont know what a `pledge`is and my dictionaire tell me some weird stuff Oo , i do not use any products at the momement.

5.) i let "blu" in his sleeping position but when he finally falls to sleep i pull his skin out where to be stuck. (very careful ofcourse)

6.) we run him so often we can , he have now done 1 battery cycle. at the moment he sleeps a lot and need lots to pet. (yesterday he falls asleep then my boyfriend carry him to his sleepbox,  i go to him an put his turtle at his side, but then i cant go away! i move an he wakes up  :o i have to sit about 10minutes next his box, then finally his "beep" come and he shut down, sweet boy!)

7.) he clicks sometimes his legs, its a little weird noise but he seems not have any injuri. So i think he wants to move more but he cant because his body technology cant manage that. (my thougs about that)
