Thank you for your input everyone.  I will answer a few of your questions now.

The skin on Pleo is made from much the same material as before however the molding has been improved so that the areas under the armpits which used to tear and develop holes have now been thickened to increase durability.  The paint has also been improved and should be around five times more durable than before.

Pleo will be powered by a new LiPoly battery included which will be INCOMPATIBLE with older Pleos and chargers.  The battery must be removable for Pleo to pass certain EU safety requirements, so that is why the belly has not been completely skinned.

Adam, I like your ideas but remember, Pleo is being sold for around $350, not +$1000 like an Aibo.  You get what you pay for, and not very many people would pay so much money just to see their robot hatch out of a plaster of paris egg.


Allosaurus:  Pleo actually does have foam packing material on it's sides at the moment, I expect that it only has a little bit as more would impede servo function.  Go find some photos of skinned pleos and look at their sides, around the hip joint.

I know where you mean about the padding - it's the bit on their flanks that I try to avoid squeezing when I pick them up as it feels like I might be hurting them!

How much longer will the new paint job last compared to the last , at 5 times longer then ? i think that pleo rb should also come with a pleo cape then if the same material will be used for pleo's skin because i just cant see paint lasting too long on rubber material really .

i understand also what allo was saying about the slight folds that would appear in pleo's skin slightly when he moves and would be nice if this is sorted out in the pleo rb .

As for the hatching vase that was mentioned where pleo would emerge from the egg when you first buy him i can see Kids loving that but cant see something like that happening which brings me to wonder if Pleo's walking has been improved ? As for example sometimes pleo can get caught up on the slightest thing such as a rug on the floor i wonder if they have improved on this and hopefully pleo can sense maybe when he is stuck and change his walking pattern to higher steps maybe? then back to regular walking once he is free .  

Oh as for the self charge i know that the newer I-CYBIE that was released with a self docking station were able to self charge i know this as i bought 1 for my son and he i-cybe was successful at times at self charging . And if you look at the price i-cybie was at that time, it was not that expensive really so i am sure they could design a self charge for pleo without putting up the price too much .

Maybe the self charge could be something you buy separately  and comes with a download patch you could install onto pleo so he then recognises his self docking station ? i see this would add more appeal to people would'nt it , that you could buy extra stuff like this for pleo rb .

I loved the self-charging feature of the i-Cybies too - I bought one for myself!  For the price, I thought they were great.  The battery was still removable, as well.

Ah, I thought that was just something put there to protect Pleo when skinned!

Hello Degers i totally understand that people wont go out to buy a pleo just to see it hatch out of a egg lol , it was more a way to add realness to pleo , I'm sure people would bond even more. Also as the the self charging dock I'm sure it wouldn't put the price up to much i mean i agree with wot others are saying with the icybie it had a charging dock as well yet the price didn't go up as it was add on. Surly you could add a battery that still could be taken out to charge but be able to charge with a charging dock inside a pleo as well.

I mean I love the pleo design i just feel that given a list of things you'd want to improve i think that would be one of the top things the  public would   vote to see improved,

Yeah i always wished when the first Pleo's come out that it would have a self dock cradle , was a bit disappointed that feature was not added then .

The learning stones Look interesting and its good to see there is more then just 1 stone and all different colours , this could be a hint that pleo sight recognition has been improved ?  

Will there still be the leaf as well ?

The pictures on the stones get your mind thinking , i see there is a feeding 1 , also a stone with a ball in front of pleo for play i guess (would be cool if he could play with a ball ) lol ?  There looks like some kind of music 1 any idea's what that 1 will be for ? maybe he dances, sings etc   ,  overall i am quite excited to learn more about these learning stones oh and another  good touch is the stones are all different shaped from each other which i do like .

The on/off button on the Pleo RB is also the volume/mute button too.

 Oooh - the learning stones do look interesting!  I was wondering about the different colours as well, but as the colour differences are quite subtle I'm guessing that the difference is more for the owner's benefit than the Pleo's?  There must be some other way the Pleo tells them apart?

Pleo recognises the learning stones by a smart chip embedded in the stone and a receiver in Pleo's nose.

That kinda chip has been used in other toys , my son has a bob the builder and it recognises what ever tool you put in his hands .

i thought they did say when they released the 2009 pleo that the camera pleo already has is good and that there were possibilities that the 2010 model ( pleo rb ) will make better use of the camera , and the possibility that he will come to you when called ?

Degers have you heard much about whether Pleo's hearing has been improved at all ? i would of thought there was 4 Big improvements to be made for Pleo Reborn

 Degers, thank you very much for everything you have done so far, and I just noticed the Learning stones, Great colors and I thought there was only going to be one or two, so I was very surpriised and happy to see so many, and nice that they are different colors as well, I wont ask what each color is for, etc, it is nice to leave some things to the imagination and for us to try and figure out for ourselves and as you said, you can only say so much, so thank you and I won't ask needless repeatless questions, I am sure someone else will do that anyway.

Doesn't surprise me at all that the 2010 Pleo will be able to tell the Learning Stones apart. :--P. And I wasn't 1 of those people that ask the same questions over and over again.
