Being an LOTR fan i felt it was my duty to make my Pleo, Ploo an outfit of fittingly epic proportions, so here goes:
this is the outfit as a whole, its based on Frodo's attire in the second and third films, i'll now guide you through its various features.
first we have the cape, this is inaccurate actually as the capes in the films are brown in colour, but i thought the dark green felt went well with his skin.
next we come to the main event: the one ring of power, forged by the dark lord sauron himself in the fires of Mt. Doom, well at least, the real one is; ploo's is made from a curtain ring and an old necklace chain, but it looks pretty effective i think.
'Not lightly do the leaves of lorien fall,' and so it is that Ploo has a rather lovely leave shaped fastening for himself. in the films the leaves are crafted by the elves, however this one is made from a printed picture laminated with a safety pin stuck on the back, but it looks just as good as the real thing!!!
next we come to Ploo's pack, its made out of half an old sock with half cut off to make a flap, two bits of felt are sewn onto the side with velcro on the end to fasten it round his leg, very nice. but, what's this?? something inside the pack!!?? lets have a look!
That's right, its the Light of Eärendil, given to Frodo in the first film as a gift from the Lady Galadriel and the Lord Celeborn. the real one emits a bright light and is used by frodo in Shelob's tunnel. Ploo's however, is made from a sparkly see-through bead with a roll of sticky tape stuck in the top.
look!! something else was in the pack, it looks like something packaged in a large leaf, let's unwrap it...
wow! it's Lembas bread, just one small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man! (or baby Camarasauros for that matter...)
of course Ploo needs to defend himself should any orcs or Uruk'hai happen to attack, but luckily he's got just the thing: it's frodo's sword Sting! in a rather lovely sheath which matches the blue jewel on the sword.
it's not very easy to see on this pic but the sword's blade is actually blue, as it does in the story when orcs are near. the sword is made from some metal cut off a sweet tin, and the hilt is made from a chip fork. the binding on the handle, as well as on the sheath is black insulating tape.
That's it! Ploo's all kitted out ready to start his journey to Mordor. now all he needs is a companion to be Sam...
