And Bill makes, uh, two-and-a-half?
« on: September 01, 2009, 10:37:05 PM »

Here's a good riddle:

What's green and brown and has ten legs?

This first part may be an old story to some, but . . .

A long time ago (in pleo terms) I was talking with some folks at Ugobe, and they asked if there was anything they could do to help with the comic strip, and I commented that I could use a broken pleo.   One that I could take and use as a mannequin for posing for pictures.  I needed a broken one, because to pose for Grumpy or Yorgurt requires being bent in positions no functioning pleo would ever be in.  They gladly sent me a pleo . . .

That's how I got Emmy.  But,rather than sending me a broken pleo, they sent one of their pre-production models, in pristine condition, and fully functional.  There was no way I could use her for the modeling.   Oh, well.

A year and more later, still in need of a broken pleo, we get a new member here on our forums. . . .  Holiday_projectors, who happens to be the reseller of broken pleos!  So, thanks to him, I now have Bill to pose and model for the comic strip.

Now, you won't see a character call Bill, but you will see Bill soon in the roles of Fred, and Grumpy, and Yogurt, and perhaps others . . .

So, as to the riddle, the answer is: my pleos.
So, withou any further rambling, here's  Bill!

How adorable Bill is.  That is so wonderful that Bill can be posed in all kinds of ways.  Perfect and I can't wait to see the comics.

Sorry about that MWeed.  I guess I got so excited about a Pleo that can pose and that adorable baby just looking so sweet and I completely forgot the rest of the post!  What can you expect from a grandma anyway?  When I saw him all I wanted to do was scoop him up and hold him in my lap and rock him!

It took a bit of doing to pose him juuuust right so that you can't see the wires and stuff sticking out from under his backside.

Don't feel sorry for Bill.  Think of it as cosmetic surgery.  The back legs were removed without cutting any of the wires.  All the motors and sensors are still connected to him.  I have still some playing around to do to make the OS think the legs are still there.

Like I said, the motors and sensors are still attached.  So as is, he thinks (the program detects) that there is no pressure on the foot pads, and therefore the back feet are off the ground.   The positional sensors register the leg as fully extended.  The touch sensor works as normal.  When I touch the sensor, it registers as touching the leg.  (I guess the program assumes he's ding a hand-stand . . . ;) ;D

So, fancyfont, he has phanton sensations.  What I need to do is trick them into registering a normal value.  The foot pad is not a pressure switch as I would have thought.  It appears to be an LED and a light sensor.

All Bill will need is a pair of booties. That had to be a Kodak moment when you first laid eyes on him. ;D

All the wires and sensors are still there, so you probably could, but I really doubt you could get the skin glued together.

I as thinking oversized mag wheels or perhaps skis for the winter . . .

Well, today marks Bill's first comic strip, as he poses as Fred.  You just wouldn't get the apron to hang right or get that look of a pleo *standing* there screaming  "STOP!!!" if you still had back legs in place.

Ok - this just kind of creepy.  Poor Bill laying there with his back legs in front of him!

Glad you got Bill so he can take up the hard work of being the gorgeous model for the strip.
