Pleo (rb) using without Akku
« on: August 15, 2014, 02:52:34 AM »

Hi all,

I work a lot with children.
Dear children may Pleo caress if you come to me.
Sometimes we ask Pleo for advice and he says yes or no.
He is a great tool
But we want to have more fun and get Pleo only for events with battery.
90% of the function we want to use Pleo with a power cable.
That would be easier for us.How can I use the Pleo without BATTERY with direct current?

The Akku has one
+
and i think 2 times in serial
-
.

Can i connect a standart Poweradapter 7,5V on the + Pol and both - Pol serial on this?

I have ask this to Pleoworld Customer Service and become no answer.

I hope you can help me.
My english is bad, a picture from this construction says more as 1000 words ^^.

Most can I translate itself.
That's not the problem.
Only my answers and questions are a little poorly translated.
My english is from my school days.

I would be glad if I get a reply with a solution.
Even if it were in Chinese. Google translator helps.

I have contacted the Pleoworld support.
He warned me not only that I should connect to the PC's USB when the Pleo is running.

Normal one thinks this is very simple.
But nowhere can I find a way.
How can I care for Pleo directly with electricity.

regards

I think that it is not an option to run Pleo without the battery.

Pleo RB cannot run without the battery (akku) :( It simply isn't possible because of the way they function.

The service of Pleo-world can not help me here.
They always warn me not to use only the USB if the Pleo is running.

I have made a couple of electrical engineers at my propblem.
We have a nearly finished adapter.
The problem is, Pleo uses very much amps.
1.5A is not enough.
Once the servos start everything collapses.
We try now a 4A power supply.
This part comes Tuesday by mail.

If it works, I will report further.

I have heard of it being done - there was an Italian seller on eBay a couple of years ago that had made up a battery pack with a lead that plugged into the mains, but I'm afraid I have no idea how it worked!

I'm done.
It was hard work but it works.
It has become an adapter.
You can always remove it and replace with the battery.

You need a 4Ampere power supply.

Since I have no battery, I have no thermistor
I left the bottom open for ventilation.

Has Pleo (RB) internal heat sensors?
As a protection for the processor?

Very cool :) I'm also curious about whether or not Pleo will get tangled. But I expect that you are quite close by :)

No, Pleo does not have an internal heat sensor to protect the processor.  The main heat source is the battery which is why they have the thermistor.   Pleo RB does have an internal temperature sensor used to make the pleo shiver when it is cold and pant when it is hot, but this does not shut down or protect the pleo from damage.

The problem is, which thermistor is inside?
is this a 10kohm by 25°C?

Pleo was running 8 houers today and he has no more as 67,5°C.

I make the weekend a video.

pleo ran yesterday 12 hours.
Of this he slept around 4 hours.
He is very active as a full battery.
The cable does not interfere.
It has not wrapped up yesterday.
It's really fun.

Inside of Pleo maximum of 67.5 ° C.
A technician says that's fine.
There were no problems.

A thermistor is ordered.
The construction I added later.

He was all times running in his little cage from 40x80cm.
The cable is very thick and 1metre long.
Thereby, it is always pressed to the ground.
Then Pleo can run over it.
But sometimes he gets stuck.
Then I pick him up, the cable falls down and ready.
Well, I can change the SD card without the adapter to remove.
But I never let him alone.

Today i have become a new Pleo.
My old pleo has problems with the microphone and with one eye.
I have send him to repair or change.

This is the new Pleo. I have connect him with cableppower.

I hope that he can run when I make the video.

How much volt I imagine one in the power supply.
It has either 8.2V or 7.2V.
A newly charged LIPO battery has 8,3V.
I also find that the Pleo is there faster.
But is that good for the long run?
What do you think?

And the last is, can i remove the Akku or the power supply when pleo is active?

Wow  ;D it looks wonderful ! I am  not technical att all so I can't answer your questions  :-[  it must be great to keep him running with out the battery.  Is it difficult to remove the accu you build out of the battery compartment?  Or do you remove it the same way as you do with the battery?

Thank you.
The new Pleo is quite different.
He responds when I snap my hand.
It can be turned on the first press.
He is very much sensitive to the sensors.
His eyes are straight.
The power button is directly on the icon.
My old Pleo was probably a Monday production.

Beautiful Pleo! He looks really similar to the first RB I ever owned! It does sound like there was something wrong with your other RB, but I'm glad that you're not having any issues with this new Pleo! It's really amazing that you've figured out how to use it without a battery as well!

In fact, it is very simple.
I am not a technician can be seen in the solder joints.
As a Pole, you just take screws.
As a cross-brace, take an old bit holder.

I have again made a picture.
So you can rebuild it.

The heaviest was the word thermistor.
In German we have no single word for it.
I have used for a while what it is.
For us it is a variable or hot conductor resistor.
A power supply which 4Ampere

The material cost is 30Euro.
Since I do not need more battery,
I think the price is ok.

As has already been asked several times, I made a video.
It looks like the adapter I tuck it and run.
You can also see the space for SD card.
