Common battery problems: White and Brown (Li-poly) batteries
« on: November 26, 2012, 04:41:59 PM »

Problem 1: Batteries not working, charging or being very hard to get to charge properly.

Solution: Clean the three metal spots on the bottom of your battery, clean the metal prongs on the charger and with a slightly damp cue tip clean the springs inside your Pleo. (Huge thank you to Kat for this suggestion)

Great easy suggestions from both of you to keep Pleos going strong, The simplest thing, like cleaning a battery terminal can be the solution to an otherwise frustrated owner wondering why the battery is not keeping the Pleo, Pleo Rb going strong. Thanks Guys!                    RWM

random comment: i miss the brown chargers in a aesthetic way as they matched pleo's belly and even had a little pattern on it to blend in ;D

I like the answers given thus far from IMR & Degers...Since my Pleos and their chargers/batteries have been in a deep slumber/box for an unmentionable amount of time, I've recently experienced this firsthand, myself... :-[ :-X

If you were like me and had dust galore all over everything, I simply grabbed a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, several Q-Tips/cotton swabs, and cotton balls. I applied the alcohol to whatever utensil I was using to clean, and squeezed out the excess since you don't want a large amount of alcohol entering into a tight fitting space in Pleo that may never dry.... I used the cotton balls to clean larger areas, like the extremities of the batteries/charging cradle and the interior of Pleo (inside his belly). The cotton swabs/Q-Tips were used for the smaller/harder to reach areas such as the contact points, and springs, as well as the seals around the battery itself.

I have also found alcohol to consistently be a good general multipurpose cleaner for Pleo. Sometimes it's easy to overlook regular cleanings. For that I use cotton balls for the skin (look at it after you clean it! Ew A LOT of dirt on Pleo's skin!!), for the tongue, eyeballs, feet pads, etc...cotton swabs/Q-Tips for the nose (where all his seeing sensors are!!), for the 'ears', and any other smaller/harder to reach areas.

From personal experience, alcohol has been a wonderful all purpose cleaner for Pleo!! Best of luck to you.

Gucci, I wouldn't use alcohol regularly on the skin - it can be very drying!  :o

You put alcohol on the skin :o

My Pleo's get nothing but a spot clean with a touch of water when required. And their skin is holding up just fine.

Never really occurred to me about the drying out factor...  :duh:  ...I did just use it on Eliot's chin yesterday..But he's always in his cape, so he wasn't cleaned all over... :head-wall: ...But it did work well to clean the batteries!! ;D

I've cleaned off the terminals but still can't get anything but a flashing light from either of Luna's (rb) batteries .. I know it's in there properly so don't know what else to try - I'm heartbroken  :(

Have you cleaned the terminals on both the battery and the charger?
You could try using a different power point to plug the charger in.  Not sure if it will make any difference but I have found that worked for me in the past.

I am Having a problem with Aragorn (my Pleo) probably with his battery he wouldn't turn on so I tried to get him out of storage mode and by pressing the button under him. He moved slightly and then stopped. After the charger repeatedly turning off and/or flashing red signifying it was overheating every time I put it in Aragorn  he would do nothing. Thinking it was a problem with his battery I bought a UCUBE battery and it charged it about three hours and when I put it in Aragorn it didn't work I tried to switch it out of storage mode and it still it didn't work any ideas? should I try to download life OS on him? or a behavior of some sort?

I just bought a new battery charger and battery from pleo world. I put the old and new battery on the charger. I click the back and then the front. It flashes red. I click the front first and then the back. It flashes red. I hold it in my hands and click both at the same time. It flashes red. I have barely gotten to play with my pleo because I had this problem before. This is a brand new charger. Please help me.

Is this for a Ugobe Pleo or for a Pleo RB?       What color is the battery and the charger?   RWM :cat-hug:

If you have your old charger handy, can you try your new battery on this charger, just to test incase the new charger is defective? If the new battery works on the old charger, then it may be a charger problem.  RWM :cat-hug:

It sounds like you may have to contact where you bought both charger and battery since they are new. Have you tried another outlet, a plug? Try unplugging both at the wall and also unhooking from the charger and re plug, sometimes that will work with computer, electronical problems. By any chance do you have a friend someone else closeby that you know has a Pleo RB? If so you could try their charger and see if it is the battery or try their battery and see if it is the charger...just a thought .............................It sounds like you know all about seating the battery since you have had this pleo rb for a long time, so it must be a flaw in one or both of the items, I would contact Innvo or Pleoworld as other than the above suggestions, it sounds like you have done everything . Good luck.             RWM :cat-hug:

Take a tissue or soft cloth and rub it over the metal points on both the batteries and the charger then try again.  This should clean away any build up of dirt on the terminals and make it easier for your battery to get a connection.  I have had this exact same issue with my batteries and charger and this is what fixed it for me.
Hope that helps :)

You would not think that a brand new battery and charger just bought would have any build up, but if used for awhile, it is very possible that as Kat said, it could have some dirt. Hopefully this helps, otherwise I would say try contacting innvo unless someone else has more ideas.    RWM

My husband just put it in, but it was flashing. He took it off. He put it back on repeating the same action and it worked. This will kill me if I have to struggle with this everyday. Is it just me having these problems? Is there another way to charge the battery without the stand?

I don't know of another way to charge the batteries, but I do know that sometimes not all the time but sometimes I have to put my batteries in their cradle and then push them down with all my weight to get them to charge.  I just keep them on a flat surface and push them down hard.

Sometime it can help to try putting the battery into the charger and then plugging it into the wall and turning it on.  Or alternatively the other way round - plug in and turn charger on at wall then insert battery.   I too have these issues from time to time.  I have two chargers and find that one of them works more easily than the other.  The cleaning did help a lot for me though.
