Yes, once the neck is opened up the skin is flexible enough to roll back. You will have to undo the front foot cuffs, then it's just a matter of pulling out the feet and folding the skin back. Likewise you shouldn't have to remove the head skin and can just pull the neck over the head and leave it inside out.

You can actually remove the entire skin while still leaving it attached at the belly, but you only need to go to that extreme if it were a broken tail. It is pretty cool to see inside the skin though!

Thank you IMR!

After four hours of hardwork last night, I've managed to replace all the cables.  I haven't tied them up yet coz I was so tired.  I'll do that another day  ;)

Once again, thank you!

Aww well done :) It's pretty painstaking isn't it. One final piece of advice, don't re glue the neck until you are happy with the cables and movement. Saves a headache later :P

Hi everyone!  Happy holidays!  While I don't actually "own" a Pleo, I own several tails and necks (feet, heads, front and rear bodies, gearboxes, circuit cards, etc) in various states of  disassembly.

I try to maintain operational for other people one Pleo and two Rbs for use in therapy and education with children and the elderly.  I have never "re-cabled" a neck or tail servo but have relied on "swap-tronics" to keep all the pleos in service.

Unfortunately, I now find that my supply of healthy "spares" are nearly depleted.  My supply of gearboxes with broken wires, miriad gears and horrid little c clips seems endless.

I would like to work up the courage to perform the "re-cabling" , but where do you find the cable ends (swedges or sleeves) for 0.8m cable that will fit in the notches of a Pleo neck or tail end??

I hope some bored forum member is around this holiday...

Happy New Year anyway!

You'll probably find them the same place you find the cable. It's not so scary to do it.

Hello,
I bring my old Ugobe Pleo which I bought in 2008 from the attic to give it as Christmas present to my daughter but it have broken neck so I want to fix it.
Is there a reason why I'm not able to see pictures ? I can see only "Please update your account ..."
I removed skin and noticed that right cable is snapped. I bought 2 cables from local fishing shop. so I want to study first what exactly I have to do before I will start "operation".
Is there a place where can I download those pictures ?

He's right, IMR.  Your photobucket account is blocking all pictures, even your avatar! :O

I guess I haven’t used good ol' photobucket in forever. I logged in to see if I can sort it out.

Ok, it seems like the only way to host my images with them now is to pay for it, the free account no longer allows linking. I'll have to look into finding a new place to host my pics. It’s $400 a year :o

The YouTube videos are still up and frunctional though if that helps some.

You can use IMGUR or other free picture sharing services. I tested IMGUR in this post.

This is my PLEO with broken neck

I'm going to use Kamatsu 0.8mm cable but I'm not sure if it will work because it have slippery coating. As a backup I bought thinner 0.6mm steel cable.

do I have to glue it into that "C-shaped piece" ? I can see the golden shiny piece in the middle of the loop. I didn't noticed it in the videos, you just put the cable in...
BTW thanks for the videos and pictures they are very helpful.

It’s been ages I’m afraid since I did the repair, but I’m pretty sure the only place I used glue was to reglue the neck.

Slippery cable will be fine, it might even be better as the cables were originally oiled.

I can’t fix the images until I get home to my computer, photobucket won’t download to my iPad and it’s taking several minutes to open an image. So it’ll be another couple of days.

Hi Peter,  (great name btw ;) )

I finally found some 1.0 mm nickel plated sleeves that fit over the top of my 0.8mm cable at the local fisherman's supply shop.  They also had a cheap hand crimp tool that worked a treat at crimping the sleeves.

I believe that most people (can't speak for IMR) had been using superglue to hold the ends of the cable in the neck/tail fixtures as well as the gearbox drive gear.  While I cannot vouch for it in practice, good point, it would seem that you could cut the sleeve very short (almost ball shape) and use it as a "center of cable stop" for the  drive gear.

The recess in the drive gear might need a little tweeking to accept the new sleeve.

Just my two cents worth and again without testing.

Best Regards

Finally I did my pleo's neck repair.
I made a footage and uploaded here:

I did right-left cable so I had to remove up-down as well. Hope it will be helpful for someone.
right -left cable measurement 7mm(sleeve)-126mm (cable)-7mm(sleeve center)-126mm (cable)-7mm(sleeve)
