DO NOT STORE YOUR PLEO IN THE SLEEP POSITION!!!

Sorry for yelling, but eventually you will damage the skin :( Storing in the sleep position will eventually lead to tears in the neck and tail. Store your Pleo with neck and tail and all four limbs nice and straight because that is the position that keeps the rubber in it's default position. I use a foam packing box with holes cut out to allow their heads to be supported as well.

We had a topic before on what position to leave pleos in....  And I know form practical experience.  Took me a whole tube of super glue to fix the damage to Bob's neck and tail from storing in the sleep position: http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=1267.0  :o

The sleep position is cute, and fine for short periods, but not good for leaving very long.

But to answer the original question, yes, you can force a pleo into the sleep position (at least in 1.1, don't know about 2.01).  Just hold his back/rear/butt sensor (whatever you call it) for 10 seconds and he'll go into the sleep position.

It's weird, that works on Budge, but not on Iggy unless he's upright as well - even before the OS2 upgrade.  When I first upgraded him, he did the Frere Jacques thing but I've not heard it since that first week.  I know the sensor works as it does on the skits, must be just that Iggy REALLY hates naptime!

Good Morning All

All very informative reading, excellent information. :) :) :) :)

On the battery front, I have resurrected my old NiMH pack and I have managed to obtain about 30 Min's running time, before Pleobob goes to sleep.
I will be taking the battery, in about 2 weeks time to a company in the UK (Midlands) to have the old cells replaced with Sanyo 2500 NiMH low ESR type, at £3.95 per cell.
The company will disassemble the pack, but I thought that I would perform this surgery myself and the reassembly.  Leaving them just to perform the building of the 6x cell pack+thermistor.  Not sure of how much all this will cost, but do I care, as long as Pleobob is happy.

My Li-ion battery pack and charger is imminent. ;) :) :) :)

Future postings on this.

Yay!  You're going to loooove the egg charger batteries, they do give an 'Energiser bunny' (Duracell to you, mate!  :P) edge, last about twice as long AND charge more quickly. ;D

Hi

Yep, can't wait now.  The next step after the battery is the, dare I say it  :-X :-X"The upgraded firmware" ??? ???  I don't know what version I have?  Plus I have done some reading today on this matter and there seems to be all sorts of pitfalls.  Which begs the question, should I go there??????   There is a good old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"  i do NOT want to hurt Pleobob.

I understand perfectly! :o

I was so concerned about damaging Iggy, especially being such a novice to robots, that I bought a second 'broken' Pleo to experiment and learn on - only to discover that the new one worked fine and Budge (short for Budget) became just as 'precious' as Iggy!

If you do feel brave, making sure you start with a full battery and following the instructions closely (especially not interrupting before an update finishes) will help.

Good luck, and happy reading! :D

DO NOT STORE YOUR PLEO IN THE SLEEP POSITION!!!

Yikes! I had no idea. My bad. Sincere thanks for the heads up. I'll have to whittle an appropriate cradle for head, neck and tail from polystyrene or something.

Indeed, this is the kind of info I'm here to learn (I did say in the title line that I'm clueless :)). Any similar info welcome.

Lol you're welcome, I added some care notes to the new Pleo owners FAQ, wish Innvo would state it in the manual :P

I had no idea you shouldn't leave them in the sleep position! :o :o :o
Kermit always goes into the sleep position when she switches herself off.  There are no instructions in the manual to suggest this is not how she should be stores between plays.  And no instructions on how to get her out of this position. :o

How do I get her back into the packaging position to box up for sending back?

If the sleep position is so bad then why don't Innvo program Pleos to go into a safe position before switching off.

Still so many things for me to learn.

It's just something long-term Pleo owners have discovered (to their cost) over time.  As the Pleo rb lacks the button to set to packing position, and has also had improvements made to their skin, perhaps it doesn't apply so much to them.  Is there nothing in the instructions?  The problem is simply that rubber degrades over time, and in light, so anything that puts more of a strain on it long term can be harmful.  Overnight would be fine, just not for weeks or every night.

I'm afraid no one will know if it applies to RB until there are more out in the wild :( I wouldn't recommend it though, better safe than sorry.

As soon as I find out how to safely enact the packing position I will be sure to do so on a regular basis between plays for my new pleo. :)
