On the diagram to show where all of the sensors are located on the pleos there doesn't show one to be in the tail, only towards his rump. My Kermit curls his tail up when my hubby runs his finger along it and coos, how does he know he is touching his tail?

What diagram are you looking at? Chances are it's a model of a prototype, if you found it on the internet.

There is no sensor in the tail.  Pleo does not know that you are touching it's tail.

The sensors do not require you to actually touch them.  They are not pressure sensors.  On some pleos you can actually hold your hand about a half-inch above the skin and the sensor will still detect it.  SO, it's possible that as your husband is stroking the tail he is coming close enough to trigger the rump sensor.

That makes more sense, if you are near his rump his tail does curl without touching it.
