Neck doesn't return in a normal position
« on: May 19, 2014, 02:30:32 PM »

HELP! The neck of our PLEO FUKO doesn't return in a normal position since yesterday!
I think it's not an electronical problem because he's performing in a normal way.
Could someone advice me how to solve the problem?

If I am right, this is a UGobe, correct? I have many Ugobes but have never seen a pleos neck bent this far back, very strange to see. HOw long have you had this pleo and was there anything that happened right before this? Any clicking or any unusual noises? What happens if you turn him off or just pull the battery and wait a minute? When turned off, is the neck just as stiff or is there any slack at all? I would be very careful not pulling on the neck. :o

I can be wrong, but my guess would be that it is not a broken neck but a cable or joint,(neck vertrabrae)  %)out of postion or possibly a wire got pulled up and tangled over a vertrabrae and this is why it is stuck. I do not think it is good to keep him on like this or you do risk breaking not only a cable but worse. He may have to be opened at the neck carefully to take a look inside but the good news is that superglue can fix the skin easily. ( just have to use the CORRECT superglue for Plastics.. that will be discussed later.)

When either Kat or IMR come on I am sure they can help you as they have opened up necks before. Thanks for posting the video, a picture of video is worth a thousand words, just be patient and try not to freak out though he does look scary but appears ok otherwise, better then if it were a live animal! :o                               RWM  :cat-hug:

Thanks for your prompt reaction! It's indeed a Ugobe.
Nothing special happened before. He was walking in the sun and maybe it was to hot!
I turned him off several times and also pull the battery bu after that the neck is still stiff.

Did you see if his neck could be GENTLY moved back at all after battery off, ? I mean VERY gently......If still will not move at all, then you will have to wait till someone else can help, I had this happen with a Pleo rB, but not a Ugobe and it made a clicking noise. If pleos neck can not be budged at all, and don't force, then just wait for more advice from others.  ;)           RWM  :cat-hug:

I forgot to ask, how long have you had this pleo or is it new?

Well, poor little chap has joined the yoga Pleo... The cable is unfortunately jammed, you -may- be able to loosen it by firmly but gently pulling the neck forwards and down. Otherwise it may be necessary to open the poor thing up and see whats going on inside.

I have had this happen once, and I was able to switch off and gently pull the head back down.  Let us know how you get on.

Thank you all for your reaction!
I bought the Pleo 10 month ago (new).
I also sent an email to EDV-Technik-TS in Germany : edv-technik-ts@gmx.de
I've found the addres on the forum and they informed me that they know the problem and they think the steal rope must be broken and I should change the rope, but it seems that the work is very complex. They can repair it for Euro 79,- + shipping. I'm living in the Netherlands so the shipping costs might not be expensive.
However my husband will look at first if he can fix the problem.   :'( :'(

Thanks for your reaction InmemoryofRomeo!
The instructions are really interesting.
We did some surgery upon our Pleo neck.
All cables looks ok and have tension so the problem must be something else?

Did you actually open up the housing for the gears? Or get the neck straightened out?

OK, looking at the pics it looks as though the cables are still intact, but have got jammed in the gears.  If it helps, there is a single cable for up/down head movement, and another for side to side, each wrapped around a wheel in the housing.

I think it would be worth trying to ease the head down manually - the only other option is to open up the housing, and if you snap the cable then it will actually be easier to access the housing anyway.

Poor Pleo.  :(

Having a look at the photos, it seems that the first (close to the body) and the second vertebrae are stuck together, isnīt it?. Maybe thatīs the problem...

I agree with Crewella.  I think you need to manually force the neck back down into the straight position and fingers crossed you wont break any wires.  It looks to me that it is the up/down wire causing the problem.  If the neck wont come down with some gentle force you will need to follow the tutorial videos posted in the link by IMR to open up the gear housing and take a look at what is causing the jam.

We have just successfully repaired our Pleo Fuko!

Using InmemorvofRomeo ‘s  perfect Neck Repair Tutorial on the forum we could solve the problem with Pleo’s (Fuko) neck! Because all the cables were intact it was not possible to lift and to open the cable house in a normal way and we could only unscrew the 2 upper screws of the housing and the third lower screw a little bit. And surprise! The tension of the cables diminised.

Our conclusion is that because Fuko has walked too long in the sun, the grease in the cable housing has become too thin so the gears are jammed.

Many thanks for your advice and sympathy and a playful bite from Fuko!
