Re-skinning my pleo
« on: December 12, 2012, 05:59:06 AM »

Hi guys, sorry for not updating on this project I'm working on or even updating anything here but Furry had been skinned last week due to terrible skin condition, the silicone I repaired his skin work and had held up very well but cracks are everywhere. Anyway back to the subject,I'm now making new skin but it won't be made of rubber(don't want do more skin repairing :P)

I'm no expert, but I thought the whole idea of the flimsy silicone skin (that clearly has its drawbacks) was to facilitate the functioning of the contact touch sensors?  Will they still pick up under all that fur?

That's a good question. What about movement? Is there any danger of any of the stitched edges catching on any joints or inner workings? Also I'd think you'd have to leave lots of extra cloth or whatever so the pleo still has its full range of motion.

pleo's touch sensors seem to work pretty well under covering, as long as it is thin enough and you pet hard enough for you to disturb the other side of the fabric, pleo should feel it fine. as long as you don't 'graze' the fur but press down to the skin,  things should be fine.

Hi,
Nice work on your Re skin!  Love the head!

Just a quick reminder.  Please just insert your image like this: [ smg=123 ]. Please don't also add [img] tags too or this breaks the forum.

Hi, it is looking very nice so far, reminds me a bit of the muppet type characters or a Jim Henson Movie. I too like the head the best so far, from what I can see. Have you done the body yet? is the fur, skin the same all over the wholel body? Are you using a breathable , washable, by hand synthetic type fur? Is the color a blue green, hard to tell just by the photos. Is the bottom, the jaw for example, fleece or another material? I would love to see what the body looks like. Are youleaving fur off the belly area, or right up to the battery area?             RWM :cat-hug:

The fur I'm using is faux fur which is more breathable than real animal fur,the fur color is light teal, the lower jaw is super short orange fur,the body is grey fleece, the tip of the tail is long black fur and the feet is dark brown and black fur.
The belly will not be covered.
Don't think I should have fur on the body because pleos might over heat.
I'll love to have some criticism on the skin P:)

LOVE this so much  :) How are you attaching it? I love the look of it on the face best of all but I have no idea how you managed to get it on an looking so natural.

Both my Pleos have better skin than I do, even Stephan the Ugobe, so I don't *need* to make them new skin but this looks so cool that I would like to give it a go  ;)

All the fur and fleece are hand sewed.A very little amount of hot clue is for holding the fur to the head,no fur was trimmed since it will make it look choppy  P:)

I love the concept of this, although certainly not my particular cup of tea :rootbeer: going with fur...But He does look like a Wooly Mammoth-especially if you added tusks! Which I think is pretty cool! I am all for originality, and if you like Furby's new and improved look, that's awesome! Keep it up! =)

I love him! I t definitely looks like fabrics could be a viable alternative for falling-apart pleos! It looks like he still responds to all his sensors, too! He looks fantastic  P:D

That looks absolutely adorable!  Not to mention extra cuddly!  Can you hear his speakers as well as you can under the normal rubber casing?
