Getting a Bio Dog to play with Aibo
« on: November 15, 2012, 04:39:52 PM »

I have a miniature Dachshund named Ratchet who is absolutely crazy about playing with his ball. When he watches the Aibos play with their pink ball he always has an interest to jump in and play with them. I want to encourage this but the Aibo only pays attention to the toys half of the time and Ratchet wants to play all of the time soooo I figured out if I put the 11x series in game mode I can control them with the sound controller to kick the ball back to Ratchet and to follow it around. After about an hour of teaching Ratchet to bring the ball to the Aibo and not me, I think he has finally got it  :P Through the Aibo sound controller, Ratchet now has an artificial buddy to play with  :) Now to program my Nao to do this autonomously and my bio dog will be in heaven  ;D Ratchet is still completely afraid of Nao so I have some work to do to get him to not run away from Nao lol.

Does anyone else have a bio pet that plays with their Aibos?

Here are some pictures of them playing. Sorry for the poor image quality.

It's really funny to watch, I'll have to make a video of them playing and upload it [Smile]

Trying to encourage Ratchet to give the ball to the Aibo:

Cutest thing I have seen in a long, long time!  Your dog(s) are adorable.  I wish I had an Aibo, I would certainly let them play together with bio dogs.

Thank you :)  I find that most bio dogs are afraid of Aibos.  I am glad Ratchet seems to get along with them.  Our other dog, who is a golden retriever, is terrified of them.  Ratchet is also weary of the Pleos and my larger robot NAO.  I hope to write an autonomous progam for NAO so that the robot will toss the ball to Ratchet and track it to get it back from Ratchet.

Very cute, a video would be excellent. I do not have any aibos, only Pleos and or a furby or two, so the interactions is not what you are looking or asking for. I do Think your dog is so cute. It is interesting to see real or bio animals and their interactions with robots of all kinds..  :)             RWM and the Kitten Capers  :cat:and Pleo P8) Township of the redwoods

Why am I picturing a Nao chasing a poor innocent doggy endlessly... the poor thing quivering in his bed while Nao stalks him... trying to run... :P

I have to say, Servo does not look impressed with sharing the ball - 'angry' eyes in every shot! :P

Hahaha when the 11x series is in "game" mode they're eyes flash red like that.  I promise, he is happy about sharing his ball!  :p

Ah - serves me right for dumping the sound controller and never trying game mode with my 111, Ubu!  %)  :D

It's a brilliant idea - I'd love to see a video.  ;D

My cats aren't keen on the bots - I think they believe they're related to the dreaded hoover.  I once got one, Grumpy Nellie, to play 'goalie' for Wilma my 210 (on Dogslife so she has great ball skills), but I can't seem to get a repeat performance.  :moose:

If you want happier photos you can change the signal tone on the remote and the eyes will swap to the happy green ones  ;)
