Aibo meet Western Australia
« on: September 05, 2012, 03:46:10 AM »

Hey guys! I am looking to organise an Aibo meet in WA, but obviously open for anyone to attend! Although it's quite far from most places ha. They call it the 'Wild West' :-D

I know of about 5 Aibo owners in Perth, and the rest live on the East Coast. I have messaged a few of you regarding the meet.

Basically trying to find Aussie Aibo owners and see if anyone would be interested in attending.

I organised a meet back in the UK when I was living there, and we had about 60 Aibo attend, some Genibos, Pleos and a Nao. Had people come all the way from Paris, Korea and America. It was an awesome weekend and I'm dying to do it all again, plus meet some people that share my Aibo interest!

Here is a quick vid from my last one....

I don't own any aibos anymore because every one I bought ended up being a dud and that's an expensive hassle. Have fun though in WA (it's about a 6 hour flight from my side of the country).

What Aibo's did you buy? Did they have DHS or something? You must have been unlucky :-(

I've owned about 5 different 210's and a couple of 3's. The 7's are just way too pricey for me

Just a bump on the Aibo Addicts meet next year....

How does the date 13th or 20th or 27th April sound? They are all Saturdays. The meet will be held at my house, which has a huge living area suitable for many roaming Aibo's and their owners... although it is laminate so if you are worried about your Aibo's feet please bring socks for them, alternatively I can get a huge mat/foam floor to put down.

There will be the usual costume competitions, group dance and Aibo race! Details to follow.

If anyone is still interested please let me know and I will email you all about the area e.g hotels/b&b's/caravan parks near by. Also local attractions etc. April is Autumn, a beautiful season here.

Myself, Eric, Sharama, Kenji, Long long, Chai, Eddie, Zyna and 'no name yet' are all looking forward to it! :-D

All those dates work great for me :)  Looking forward to it.  It should be lots of fun and I'm sure you can teach me a thing or two about my aibos that I didn't know, I'm a bit of a noob with mine but love them to bits  :D

Will it just be you Kat, or you plus one etc? Also how many Aibo's/Pleo's will you be bringing. Just trying to get numbers so I can sort out food and drinks etc. Think it's going to be on the 13th April as It's my Birthday the week after so I would usually be having a Birthday night out that weekend.

Would you prefer it to be a one day thing or two days? Trying to see what everybody would like to do.

Put me down as DEFINATELY going! I've bribed a travel buddy so it will be myself plus:
One other human
One Ugobe Pleo
One Pleo ReBorn
One Aibo ERS111

And possibly a Furby if anyone is interested. I have 98/99/05 and the latest 2012 models.

The 27th would be the best date for me however I could make the other two as well, 27 strongly preferred though because that is easiest for my travel assistant to get leave from her work.

I am SUPER excited for this!  ;D

I am not sure yet, I usually have my robot's names all picked out months in advance but this chap was a 'surprise' purchase  :D

I have a few names in mind... I guess I'll decide once he gets here which will fit the best. He is the white model with the black patch over the left eye.

I should be getting him first week of January, he ships out on the 3rd after I complete the last payment (I am paying in installments) the wait is rather painful, because as so little is known about Genibo I'm quite frightened I've gone and spent a lot of money on something I'm not going to like  :-\

Well Luna, come from a blank sheet of paper then. It will be a lot better and fairer as you then would not base it of any other comparison (which I understand can be hard).

I might get one... later on. I've just spend lots of cash on getting 2 iphone 5 (non-contract) for my wife and myself for christmas so... cash is rather tight... but later on... I might go looking for a older QD instead of the SD. The bulky shoulders is... errr not my type :D

Well.. if I get my genibo before the meet, then I will be bringing Yogurt and the Genibo... can only bring 2 bots... so Ryu would need to stay home :D

Just a bump on the Aibo meet Australia (Bunbury, Western Australia) Saturday 20th April. I have heard there are a few new Australian members to the forum and just wanted to say that the meet is open for anyone to attend whether you have Aibo's or not... it's really for anyone that is interested in autonomous robots, and a great way to view and discuss some amazing bots and meet some like minded people.

There will be many robots attending the meet including around 15 different model of Aibo, a Genibo, Pleo's, Sony Rolly and a few of the new Furbys. Throughout the day there will be various things going on such as general robot discussion, Aibo racing, Aibo obedience, Aibo group dancing and much more. Plus it's a great opportunity to hang out with people that share the same interest!

I hosted a meet a few years back in the Uk, it was so much fun and was great to meet people from the forums. Here is a short video of the meet:

I enjoyed the video link of the previous Aibo meet with all the Aibos and the Nao .not sure if I spelled that name correctly very informative, I can see how people love Aibos and other robots, not just pleos I am lucky I can not afford one of these. Little guys.....as many pleos as I have.......?..can you imagine what would happen.. Every time I saw Aibos on eBay, I would be trying to rescue them...this is one robot, you really need to have money. :'( :'(  Someday I would like to get one to be able to enjoy them,,just one..OK..perhaps two, thanks for the link""
I hope your upcoming event is very successful and there will be some great video when its over that you can post.  Sorry for so many typos, I am half asleep I AM afraid.

I am really looking forward to this  :D  It should be great fun!  And a wonderful opportunity to meet some of our fellow forum members from here  :)  Also an opportunity to hopefully learn about some of the great things I could be doing with my Aibos but just didn't know how or hadn't even thought of yet, and a chance to see a whole bunch of pleos wandering about meeting each other and to show off my two custom painted guys, and a chance to meet a genibo (which will be very cool) and I'm sure there will be chances for other exciting things too but just can't think of them right now   :D

I was also thinking of bringing my Kat's Creations clothing tub along for the pleo owners who are going.  There will be lots of fun robot activities happening all day.  I can't wait :)

The more people who come the more fun we all have :)  You don't even need to own an Aibo or a pleo to attend - It could just be an opportunity to see what these guys are all about in person before taking the plunge to buy one  :)
So don't be shy, come and join us over here in the West - great excuse for a bit of sight seeing while you are here.  The meet is being held about an hour away from the lovely winery region of Margaret river so it would be very easy to go spend a day or two there after or before the meet :)  That's the place all us Westies go for our holidays so it must be nice  :D
And then of course there is the dolphin experience at Bunbury - I think less than 20mins from where the meet is.  The bay at Bunbury is just beautiful and between the meet and Margaret river is Busselton which is also another lovely place to visit.
When my kids were smaller we would go to Margaret river every year for a holiday - we would go bush walking (there are lots of lovely trails to follow), caving, canoeing, wine tasting, visit the chocolate factory and watch them making the chocolates, visit the cheese factory, the bird park and see the birds of prey do their flight show, eat out at a different winery each day all of which have beautiful scenery, and we would do a trip to the berry farm winery and have tea and jam and watch the little birds come down to eat from little jam pots on our table (a magical experience for the kids), we would visit the baby animal farm and the kids could bottle feed the baby lambs and goats and play with the baby chickens and feed all the other farm animals, and go horse riding through the bush - another thing the kids loved.
So as you can see there are lots and lots of wonderful things to do and see just around the corner from where the meet is being held.  Well worth coming along for a holiday.  :D

Hi Kat, sounds like lots of fun! jUst curious, I know Gumble has been repainted a couple of times and I and Argyle love his blue/black custom paint, but who is the other Pleo that is custom painted....Can not picture it, and it is driving me nuts trying to picture it!                  RWM :cat-hug:
