Hi all,

Here is my evaluation of the GeniboSD after my 1 hour meeting/demo with the distributer. (This is a shameless cut paste from my post in AL... lazy to type it all out again)

1. AI seems pretty much similar to what the GeniboQD is at (based on feedback from other QD owners)

2. Exploration was minimum with slow forward moving (crawls?). Only occassionally will they very quickly crawl backwards. Yogurt on Explorer was exploring a lot more. Xsjado when on Mind2 explores more as with when on Mind3.

3. They don't track balls    Pink didn't work... neither did a yellow tennis ball 

4. Volume from the speakers is LOUD!!!!!!!!! My ears were hurting. But as they told me they didn't lower the volume yet because the dogs were usually oout for roadshows. Speaking of which... the servos... OMG... they are loud incomparison to both Yogurt and Xsjado.

5. Obstacle avoidance is so so. They would walk to the chair's legs and knock on it and still keep trying to walk forward while Xsjado would show the obstacle emot on the illumi face and stop and turn.

6. The SD still recceives commands best via the remote. Voice recognition was there, just quite heavy misses.

7. Built quality is ok. Quite solid and seem to be able to take a lot of stress (unlike Aibos). Their GeniboSD kept trying to do the handstand but kept falling. I believe it is because they never run them in autonomous mode and only on group dance mode, so the AI is still learning. Could also be the reason that ball tracking did not work, but then again I still believe it is not present.

8. Charging station is NOISY... no VERY NOISY... the constant whirlling of the fan is crazy (@_@).

9. Charging is fast at approx 1+ hour for full charge. Run time is clocked at 1 1/2 hours but running in group dance mode instead of autonomous. So could be longer, not sure on that.

Yeah... this is what I gather so far for that quick 1 hour demo. They were actually wowed by Yogurt's activeness and Xsjado's recognition between his ball and bone. The GeniboSD's movements are definitely faster then Aibo, however their walking style is... erm... well... honestly reminds me of the i-cybie    When crawling is ok.

Thanks Ice, there really do seem to very very few differences from the QD.  Except the beefier servos!

Thankyou for the observations Ice! I couldn't tell a lot from the video, I think Genibo is just one of those things you have to experience for yourself. If only they could explain its workings better in the manual *sigh*

As with all robot pets, it is always best to experience them yourself. However, my experience was a turn off. Mostly due to the almost non-progress with the autonomous behavior. Yes, it does seemed more autonomous compared to the GeniboQD (as in less question mark emo asking for commands), but still lacking. Collision detection was pretty poor compared to even an ERS-210.

The one positive thing which I did feel about the GeniboSD was the toughness of their shells. The plactics are HARD and it is very very obvious that the servos are ALOT stronger and definitely more durable. But other then that... well... yeah... little to be desired.

Hmm,just watched the three videos, interesting. I know nothing about these robots but can say that the all black dog was the one that seemed most animated and like a companion. Others didn't appear to do much at all? I don't think I would like music playing every time they do something but maybe you can actually turn that off? Thanks for putting this here, it's amazing to see what is out there.
