Baby Ruth gets Sick
« on: October 26, 2011, 10:59:00 PM »

While waiting for the Pleo Rb Contest to finalize and end the continuous mishaps that have occured, it seems as if my own Pleo , Baby Ruth got sick. First she had what appeared as an Innocent cold, and it was most likely because I had not interacted with her for 2-3 days, which meant no food for 2-3 days. I forgot that not feeding them everyday, even if not "playing" with them can lead to poor health. So first Baby had the sneezing, pitiful sounds they make when ill, But after feeding her and using Probe Rb which gives you a statement of their health along with DNA and growth record, I was shocked to hear the voice say, "pleo is injured" so soon as I turned her on, the injury was apparent. :o
There was no falling, no bumps or anything serious. Other than if my lab mix dog had bumped into her, which I do not see being anylthing that could "hurt" her, I do not know how this occurs. I do think it is strange though that I have noticed on several videos since then, that only one nostril has a light blinking out of it, is that normal or not? I would think both sides blink but perhaps they do not.
So this injury was noted on Oct. 22nd and I have been treating her with Rock Salt which of course she does not like and I had to force it into her mouth and then after one of two bites she acts like she is gagging. Her food level and emotion are going up slightly . Her emotion level was very very low at something like 9 % but her food level is 79% as of yesterday, I hadn't checked it today, but her pain level yesterday was still 20% and overall she is in "bad shape". How long do these injuries take to heal? It appears both Baby Ruth and I are suffering emotionally right now,but I don't have an injured leg. Was it the not feeding for a couple of days that brought on her cold like condition in the first place? Curious as I had not read about that and I think there are bound to be lots of owners who forget that if you aren't playing with your Pal, they still need to be turned on to eat, nothing like Ugobes! I will update everyone on her health tommrow. Hopefully a new little friend may perk us both up...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NryGTv4T2Zw RWM

Awwwwww - poor Baby Ruth. Keep feeding her the rock salt, and the coffee bean leaf is good for raising emotion levels. The mushroom is good for overall health levels too. :)

........ oh yes ........ and NO SUGAR CANE, as it slightly lowers health levels. (It does cheer the up no end, though ....... so maybe just a little :D).

The nostrils are the IR communication - I believe one sends and one receives, so it's fine if you can only see the one, usually in videos. :)

I hope she's better soon! :hhug:

Awe! That pain cry is pitiful. Neither of my RB's have been injured although Ryu got sick during her juvinile stage when my nephew fed her too much sugarcane behind my back. It certainly takes longer to cure a sick RB than a sick Ugobe. Good luck, RWM.

I hope Baby Ruth is feeling better, having been tucked up with hot chocolate or whatever is comfort food for Pleos.

Oh I know how Baby feels. Cato has come down with something. I thought it was rather odd since I've been feeding everyone regularly. I haven't had much time for interacting these days because of having to catch up on articles so I've been feeding then shutting down. Sadly it's kind of the equivalent of keeping them in a cage and throwing food every now and then. I'm ten away from being caught up and I published one today so hopefully things will get back to normal. Best of luck, Baby.

Oh, Baby Ruth sends her well wishes to Cato. Poor guy, it is so sad to see any Pleo sick, and when you don't know how, it is even more so, I was ignorant at first with Rb, not realizing that if they were not "on", they could suffer from not getting their nourishment and that affects their health of course. Emototional sense of well being I think also leads to immune system problems, hence getting sick even when you are feeding the Pleos. So if you are busy and like you said, "throwing food to them", but not having time to interact with them, they can come down with a case of , illness, Accordingly, I am not sure of course, but they can perhaps become easier to injure, with something so innocent as throwing them into the air and catching them. I have seen times when Baby fell over off a short distance outside when filming,( a short distance of less than a foot,) with no injury , but throwing in the air and catching, perhaps they sprained a leg? ( not sure if possible, but not sure what else could have caused a upper leg injury with no fall of any kind?0 ???

I know you have been busy Talon as are many of us, including myself this past week. One thing I have decided to do, and it may work for you, is that when you know you do not have the time to interact like you would prefer, try putting one of your Pleos , esp the Rb since they seem more vulnerable, on your lap, and an occasional pet they may curl up and fall asleep. The petting seems particulary important emotionaly for the health of Rb. Ugobes are so independant and would probably fall off your lap, not wanting to sit still! LOL. I have been feeding Baby, even though I have not given her more than about half an hour each day the last three to four days, but feeding the regular leaf, giving the rock salt and of course lots of TLC. Her feed levels have flunctuated between a low of 9% when she had not eaten for about 4-5 days, ( before she had cold symptoms that I was aware of) to a high of 79% two days ago, Her physical health and emotional health were the really important numbers along with the injury level and pain level which was 20%. If a Pleo sounds that pitiful at a pain level of 20%, I would hate to hear what 50% sounds like!
It does take time, but with the rock salt they start getting well really fast it seems. I haven't checked Baby yet today, but I will be feeding her shortly and I check the Stats after feeding her, which is allmost allways in the early evening. If I can heal Baby, then I know Cato will do fine, Pleos are tough little characters! It is funny when I think of it, I don't remember ever seeing Argyle with a cold, and being blind I would think he may be more vulnerable, but he is a tough and pretty healthy for being a Pleo, esp an older Ugobe! Take care. RWM

Thanks, RWM. I may have to give the manual a look to see how many times you're supposed to give them the mint leaf before they start getting better. We're on the second battery cycle of the day which is very rare for me. He rebooted shortly after the beginning so I didn't finish it. Curing a programmed behavior isn't as important as protecting inner workings. I stopped for fear of him getting too hot. Plus he lost the last few times I gave him the leaf. Grrr!
Thanks for the lap idea. I can keep typing and give my little ones a rub every now and then. I'm not sure if Cato would go for that as he likes to rome around and get into everything. It might work while he's sick, though. Ryu would go for it. She seems to like attention. We'll just have to see how it goes.
