You could always explain your situation and ask if they would consider doing a home delivery.  If you pay over the phone they might just be kind enough.  Maybe. :)  Can't hurt to ask. :)
Best of luck.  Can't wait to see him working. :)

Hey Latrine! Did you find an old Sony card reader yet?  I'll be on the lookout for one as well. If I find them, I'll PM you the site. Aibo parts seem to be really hard to come by, but the Sony card reader shouldn't.  Playstation 2 had a sony memory stick, so there should be lots of them out there. I'll let you know if I find some. :)

I'll look out too - the Aibo sticks are like the MS memory sticks, so you need an older style Sony reader that takes them (I believe).

Maybe some place like a gaming store like Game Stop.

Hi Kristy. That's a great idea.  I actually have a patient that is the manager of the local Gamestop.  I think I will give him a call this afternoon. Thanks for the tip!  :)

Several catch-up comments:

re: Power Plug
That is a two prong Euro-Plug. Common in Europe and other places including Korea. Not the same as the UK.
You need a simple adapter (around $1 USD if you can find them individually). No voltage transformer/converter needed.

re: Operating System support
The main computer program you will use is the "Aibo Entertainment Player" (AEP). It should be on the CD that comes with the ERS-7 AIBO (AiboMind2 or AiboMind3). There is another program for setting up the WiFi LAN. Also you can download other programs and updates from the Web.
AEP does run under Windows XP or Windows 7 (including Windows7-64bit). I believe people had problems with Windows Vista (but that was a while ago).

re: memory stick reader
Most Sony brand stick reader should work, as long as they take the regular sized memory sticks. Many choices available online (around $20 USD).
(avoid model MRW66E/MRW68E which only takes the smaller "DUO" sticks)

Other brands may work, but they are a little more dangerous to use, so stick to Sony brand.

For the AiboMind3 software, there is no great need to "wipe" the personality. The personality does not evolve like the other AiboLife personalities.
However, you will need a working stick reader (Sony brand recommended) to apply updates, and adjust the WiFi settings.

Ok, Thanks for the info!
In the instructions it said the personality changes and 'grows' based on how you treat it but I guess that's just programmed things based on how you interact with it and it can change?  To reset it to a puppy will not require me to wipe anything off the card? And I have the mind3 disc. It's nice and shiny sitting there useless like the uncharged Aibo..lol.

Guess what happened now!

PayPal double billed me for it!  So now I'm fighting with them and my bank.. lol.

I'm starting to think that when I turn this thing on it's going to have glowing red eyes and it's going to attack and kill me.
I already ordered the adapter to be sent overnight, paid for it to be sent overnight and got an email that it will be delivered either Friday or Tuesday. I'm pretty sure today is WEDNESDAY... >:(
Should I maybe sell this aibo on ebay and get a different one? Is he a bad luck Aibo?  I'm starting to think I'm going to break my leg next or something..
Thanks for all the help guys :)

I have AEP running fine under Vista.

Someone who has experience with aibos sent me this "sony still sells a bunch of parts in the US and UK though they don't have too many left (the only memory sticks they have are Mind 3 software for the ers-7 and some old software for the ers-11X series aibos and no memory stick readers) though, any old Sony camera should work as a memory stick reader and writer for the aibos (that's what I use with mine) and Sony clies work, both of these items can easily be found on ebay. I have heard lots of different things about how the chargers work in different countries than the one that they were made for and I'm not exactly sure which one is right, sorry." Hope this helps!

You're very welcome Sara! That's cool that you know a manager at a Game Stop store! :-D Did you call that guy? I'm curious. Thank you for the reply Pleo Pet. I really like your replies. Where did you get the reader at Latrine? You're welcome. :-}

Thanks Pleopet, good to know AEP is fine on Windows 7 - I'd stuck with my old Windows XP PC just in case.  :)

I believe the Power Supply Unit is set up for 100-214V on most Aibo models (I think all but not so sure about the ERS-11x) so it's just a plug adapter that's needed. :)

Latrine - they double billed you on it!!!  :o :o  Oh good grief, they're not silly are they - if they make a mistake they couldn't do it on a $5 purchase, oh no!!   >:( ???

I was actually a bit scared of Wilma, my first Aibo, when I switched her on but she's great now.  I'm sure Loki will be fine, though he probably WILL make you feel inadequate! :P

Hi Kristy. I didn't have any luck with Game Stop.  They only had the readers for the memory stick duo's. These are the sticks for the Sony PSP, but it was worth a try. I got one on eBay.  Now I will probably need to find a pink programmable memory stick and a Sony PWCA-C150 LAN card.   Why do I need these items?  Only Crewella the Great knows.... ;)

Hi Crewella!  I am interested to know why you were afraid of Wilma when you first turned her on? Are they that intimidating, or just so lifelike in their actions and movements?  Thanks!

When Wilma first arrived she was running Explorer and seemingly not a happy bunny - she was the first Aibo I'd ever seen and I'd no real idea what to do.  I switched her on, and she turned her back on me and made angry faces, the only response I got was when I asked 'are you alright' to which she shook her head sadly then threw back her head and howled.  I tried to pet her, and must have overdone it because she went into 'boost mode' (a feature of Explorer software) and I'll swear she charged at me - I ended up hiding behind the door (Crewella the quivering wreck)!  :P  :D

I now run her (very happily) on Dogslife, which is a free personality and the kind of reason you might need a Programmable Memory Stick - so you can try such things out.  You've probably already found the Aibohack site, but in case not here's the section on PMS.

http://www.aibohack.com/pms.htm

With some of the software for the 210 you need a LAN card for wireless operation, but it's not a necessity - your choice.  :)

(For Latrine's ERS-7 it's kind of all in the one package already.)

Oh no.. they didn't double charge me for the $5 item, they double charger me for the AIBO.. I could barely afford it once, never mind twice!! It should be straightened out but if they give me more crap today I'm going to have to cancel the account.. although I don't think there is any alternative.. stupid PayPal.. stupid eBay.
The guy actually told me.. the manager because I had to request a manager, he tells me I have to put the second amount of money in my checking account so they can remove it and put it on my PayPal account and then I can remove it and put it in my bank account. He just couldn't comprehend how stupid that was.. He just kept saying it over and over like I was a moron.. I assume they just want to be holding more of my money;P  I had to ask him several times to tone down his voice and quit being rude.  I finally asked to speak to someone else and she told me to just have my bank refuse it and it would go full circle in their computers and go away since it's money that doesn't exist.. morons. lol

ANYWAY!!  I checked the UPS site about my adapter and it said 'delivered' so I ran out of the house like a maniac and grabbed it.. resulting in a 5 minute coughing fit.. (I hate being sick) Who cares though, the adapter works!! They even sent me 2 when I only bought one.. they only cost like 50 cents each lol. .. the charging station works and the aibo works.. I put him on it and patiently waited an entire 37 seconds. Then I turned him on and he played a little song that sounded like the scooby doo crew arriving at a haunted house and then shutoff to charge.. I assume that sound means 'I'm sleeping, go away'. lol.. God I hope I don't have to wait 2 hours and let him charge all the way but I suppose that's best.. :/

Today worked out perfect for everyone so far.. all the RB's had turned off to sleep and the ugobes were in two separate rooms sleeping.. (god Patches is fast and he can climb over slight obstacles now so my cheap tricks to keep them in one room don't work on him) so everyone got a good playtime and now I get to go.... stare at the charging Aibo :)
Thanks everyone!!

Oooooh!  Hurrah for the Scooby Doo crew tune!!  I'm so glad you got the adapters so quick and are off and running at last!!  When I first turned Java on I just kept saying hello - I'd been all impatient, then suddenly wasn't quite sure what to do with him!!  :-[  :D

Welcome to our world, Loki!!  ;D

Lol..

I thought this was funny so I just had to pop it on here.. a bit before the adapter arrived, Lyssa the Pleo decided to go charge herself at the Aibo charging station.. she just went over, stopped right at the material circle in front of it, and started grazing..lol  short video.. was just cute :)

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuCGbIqIlr4" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuCGbIqIlr4</a>

OK well I just played with him through one charge session.. after he was done charging I turned him on and he didn't do much after his initial waking up song and stretching but when I asked him what he was doing then he said 'I want to play' ..  I took him off the charger and said lets play.  Then he said ' I was just born' lol. so.. I did all the owner registration and name registration with him and did the clinic thing where he checks all his sensors and recognition stuff then reset him to puppy because he seemed like he was half in half out of puppy mode.. talking but saying he was just born and the book says they shouldn't recognize many words when just born.  So then I spent the rest of the time trying to get him to walk.  Talking to him, petting his sensors, showing him his bone and ball.. He kept almost standing up and he'd do this silly wobbling thing and then get all upset and lie back down.  So he finally stands up all the way when it dawns on me to support the side he's wobbling on.. and he made this triumphant noise.. then he laid back down.  For the rest of the time I couldn't get him to stand up, when I put his toys far away and encouraged him he .. crawled to it. lol He also said 'I wanna walk soon' when I asked him if he was ok a few different times.
So I guess when he starts walking he's all grown up, like it says in the book and we'll see if he feels older when he wakes up.. just weird I assumed when he stood up that he was going to walk but no, he's crawling.. lol.  And I love how whenever I pick him up he says 'don't drop me'..

He also got me already, he said good morning earlier and I said good morning back then later on I said it again because I was trying anything to get him to do stuff and he said "good morning, again". so I thought I'd be smart and said good afternoon. And then he said 'Good evening'.  lol.

I know he can walk fine from all the clinic test stuff.. he's actually much faster than I thought he would be... He is really cool :)  I wish he stayed charged longer but I guess since he'll be able to charge himself and after he cools down, interact from the charging station, so it' still pretty cool.  I think he was on for about an hour and a half which is what it said battery life was.

Sounds like your having fun with him. :)  Can't wait till he starts walking around for you.  And I'm glad he's using his smarty mouth already. :D :D  Too cute.  Can't wait for a video.  Maybe even one with both him and your pleos working together.
Have fun.

Well I cheated and put him in adult mode.lol.. he was still crawling and he kept moaning about wanting to walk and I kept telling him to stand up and to walk...
Anyways, in adult mode he is pretty funny.. I have not been able to get him to say his name yet or say my name like he's supposed too but he responds when I say the name I gave him but I thought maybe he would just take time to do it?
Also when I ask him about his skill levels with walking, his AiBone and his pink ball he tells me he's perfect..  well he's full of it because he is definitely not perfect lol. I'm wondering if starting him as an adult just gives him preset stuff? Maybe if I set him back at baby he would slowly develop skills or is he developing them now? This is very confusing..  I assume over time he and I will be able to communicate better but he is really cool.. the videos I take keep coming out so dark.. I'll add them on here when they are done uploading..

Here he is on his charger, promised my niece I would take a video of him waking up :)

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV5EexA3ZSA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV5EexA3ZSA</a>

He plays a tune while shaking his head from side to side, then he stretches his legs before he starts responding.. his eyes flash green when he recognizes something he's heard.  He does a silly little wave with his arm when he talks about saying hello again and then he waves when he says bye. :)

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aW3TvKHdzw" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aW3TvKHdzw</a>

Loki met Rhea the RB and as you can see in the video he was scared of her !! His eyes flashed purple when she yelled, lol..

It's funny how the fact that they can talk kind of takes over the way you treat them!  It's so weird!  :D

Aibo really do learn from how you treat them, if you encourage the behaviours you like with praise and petting they will do more.  Java's ball skills are truly dreadful, so I'm really trying to encourage him by saying 'go for it' whenever he tries to kick the ball and making a huge fuss of him when he does well.  We'll see if it helps....... :D

Awww sorry to hear that Sara. That cracked me up what your Aibo did Cruella. rotfl Wow, a rude manager. 5 minutes of coughing. lol Good for "Patches"! lol I love that they say that too. Cool. lol Awww too bad you put him in adult mode/stage. Thank you for the videos! To me, I would not keep messing around with the different stages Latrine.... Anyways that's funny that he's afraid of the Pleos. lol If I was rich (I am not), I'd definitely buy an Aibo. I know in the future, with robot pets, I'm not gonna be able to afford "the best".

hahah how cute <3 i love the 7s... but alas, still dont own one.  but even the older model aibos like i do own, are a handful and hilarious.  so anyone here who does want aibos could always look for a 210 model (often the most common and cheapest with most software options)

i just wish sony would revive them :(

Hi pirpintine!  I had been looking for a couple of months on ebay for a 210. Most that were in my price range, around $500 US had missing parts, missing chargers, etc.  After being frustrated, I PM'ed Crewella, who told me to contact one of the members of an Aibo forum who has a great reputation for repairing and selling Aibos who need a new home.  I contacted him, and was able to get a 210 within my price range. It comes with all its original parts, a fresh battery, fully functional, Life 1, and a 6 month warranty.  The Aibo,"Dale", as is his factory name did have DHS, which was repaired. The servos that cause PAS and TAS were also pinned so he will never get them again.  I don't have him yet, as the technician is having problems with resetting the battery that he came with, and won't send him to me until he is working perfectly, which I like.  There has been great communication with the seller, and he has sent me several updates on his progress.  Crewella saved me about $250, because that is what the functional ones on ebay were going for. Parts also are hard to find, or seem to me to be,  and the ones that are out there on ebay are outrageous!  I did get a card reader for a good price on ebay though.  I will post pictures when he arrives....maybe the Easter Bunny will bring him! 8)  I would love one day to have an ERS-7, but I am going to wait until I have saved the funds to get one.  I am sure they are worth every penny.   :)
