None taken, Kristy - just made me laugh!  :D  :-*

ADDED:  Although there is an element of stretch necessary with Pleo skin, especially on the neck and tail, which was why I wanted to test it.

Stretching creates friction the same way petting does, which causes ware on the backs and heads. I guess if we really want to be realistic Crewella could have pet it for hours (allthough that might look a bit weird  :P), I guess we'll see how it holds up with time.

ok guys I am done with this guy, except a few very minor touch ups of paint near lip, etc, but the color scheme is done, He should blend in well with the Redwoods and ferns on the Redwood forest floor, What do you think of his final color? These are all inks and dryed quicklly and no restriction of movement one bit. Hope you guys still like him, now I will just have to think of  a name and the color scheme of the next one, The first two photos are of him in front of a stained glass artwork window my husband did. The color has been adjusted because indoors on a cloudy day, that is why there are two photos

I will still try and take these out to the REAL Redwoods, once the sun comes out and the liquid sunshine abates for awhile. Right now I can't chance taking Pleos out to the damp wet overcast Redwoods, but I thought these photos show how the camo works with the plants and such.

OK RWM, I have to admit....I LOVE the camo!  It looks awesome!  I love the pictures around the plants, and I can't wait to see pictures in the Redwoods when the weather gets better.  Wilbur, my Ugobe is new, but if his paint starts to shed, can I send him to the Redwoods for a Makeover? I literally could never paint that well. AWESOME JOB!   ;D

Wow!  Perfect camouflage indeed!  :D  I'm glad you added more colour to the head, to me it looked a bit incomplete with an all green head! Much better now.  ;D

Great job RWM - you seem to have got really good coverage with those inks.  Can I ask what brand inks they were?

I did order some cheaper inks for modellers, but when they arrived today they were nowhere near as opaque as the Daler Rowney ones I used and the coverage wasn't good at all.  The ones you have used look great too, or maybe it's just a professional at work?   ;) ;D ;D

We really need to compile a list of what does and doesn't work, otherwise I'm going to end up spending a fortune if I have to buy every brand myself to test it!!  :P

I originally used Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Inks, which worked fine.
I have also bought Liquitex pearlescent acrylic inks which seem OK so far on a test patch like I did with the green, I'll report back.

I also bought Gamecraft Miniature Paints Acrylic Inks which were too thin, and I've got Vallejo Acrylic Inks on the way which I'll report back on.

Thankfully I bought most of them very cheap as used job lots or clearances!  :D

If anybody who does try a brand could please report back, on what it is and how it worked I'd be very grateful.  :-*

The Australian brand Art Spectrum is a negative, too watery and not enough pigment.

I do have some of the Liquitex Acrylic and that is A BRAND that I can try out tommrow and I will post those results since you do have it already. I am happy to tell you how that one works. I spent a lot of money on the ones I used for the last makeover but it was none of the ones you mentioned, My husband from his arts stained glass days has a whole slew of paints etc from a wholesale dealer he had when the store he owned, ( a family run business now defunct, father and mother deceased ) and the Liquitex paint is one I like, I will be happy to try that one tommorow and let you know how it works. I haven't tryed the Pearlescent from the same company, but want to give it a try too, so mayby I will use it for the next makeover and report how it works for everyone. :)

I must add one last thought: I can't give my painting technique away, but lots of inks look "too thin or watery" so it does not mean they won't work just by basing it on appearance, Did it stain your hands..? You don't need a lot of ink or paint to get coverage, and pigments are useally settled at the bottom of all inks. just a clue....don't let watery or thin lead you astray. One of the ones I just used LOOKED very watery. I may try and experiment and use one of the ones you mentioned and see if my hunch about technique perhaps is the clue or maybe it is the wrong ink to use/

You're right about 'watery', RWM - there were a couple I tried that worked better than expected.  Also, I'm veing picky and expecting a pale colour to cover a dark one to be effective, but that doesn't mean that you can't use some of the less opaque colours, and I also tried mixing the thinner and thicker brands with reasonable results, as long as they ARE both water based acrylic inks.  You definitely do need to give them a good shake, too!  :D

As a favor to my friends here on the forums and to help decrease un needed spending, I will be showing photos of the INKS I have been using in the gallery. I won't reveal my technique. but to  help me avoid friction at home...( enough said...please) Please do not say anything in the forum posts here Thanking me for showing or revealing the inks I use. You can just say somthing like Thanks RWM. and leave it at that and I will know what it means. I have to go run errands but will post the Photos in the gallery in about an hour or so. Remember I am just showing the brand of INK used on this last Pleo and I hope it works for those of you who want to try a color touch up or whole body like I did, I want my friends on the Forums to be happy and Pleos as well. :) Love to all of you and good health!

Ok, at long long last I am done at last...( I think..... :-X %)) with the INK painting of this redone Complete Pleo, I am happy as I ever will be with his colors, so I will touch him no more except to add an additonal coat, maybe. Here are three views, frontal , rear and topside. Let me know if you like the final pleo Makeover with Inks. ( I will let him know when the results are in... :)) Thank you for your patience.

Later I will upload a one minute video showing full movement.

It's cool to see some new colours for him, even if they are just custom. One little problem I had with Pleo at the start of my obsession was that the colour schemes seemed a bit too vivid, and not very dinosaurish.

But I love that camo design, RWM! Looks totally unique and original, yet seems realistic in a way.

I had some plan a while back to give my forthcoming Pleo a paintjob when his paint wears away. Either a similar paint job to the original scheme, but with darker, more earthen colours. Or something akin to Littlefoot from The Land Before Time (I'm too much of a fan of that series for my own good!), which was pale brown on the underbelly and jaw, mid-brown (akin to milk chocoate brown) on the legs, back, sides and head, and dark brown (Like coffee brown) on the spine, back of the neck and crown.

So acrylic inks seem to be the way to go then, it appears. Has anyone tried out Citadel Inks, those kinds you get from Games Workshop and other hobby-shops?

glad you like his paint job finoman, I wanted some feedback that is what keeps me going and gives me inspiration.Today I will show the end result in motion in a short video with his other family members so you can judge his movement for yourself, I allways ask for not just feedback but I enjoyed hearing the color combos you would like to see as well, I do like fantasy, but I allso like realisim as much as possible what a dino would have probably looked like according to his or her environment. Thanks for the comments. My son and daughter both enjoyed the Land Before Time and It is one of the first and best of the animated Dionosaur Movies. :)

OK, after Kat washed Gumble's new colourway off I had a go at washing Iggy.  He was mainly OK, but there was a patch near the armpit where I would have slathered on the Autoglym and hadn't removed it that the paint came away from.

Some new inks have arrived, though I've no idea what to do with them yet!  The Liquitex pearlescent inks do look very promising for coverage, and initial tests for movement look good.

Also I got some Spanish inks called Game Inks made by  Vallejos.  I suspect they will be the kind RWM mentioned - they look thin but dry a lot darker than they look when you first paint them on.

And lastly.  After all the exciting projects on here I finally got the courage to haul one of my 'bricked-but-now-OK' Pleos out of its box and slap some paint on it.  Poor little thing needs new paint on teeth and eyelids anyway - he's an early one, and for now, after just the first coat, he's become what a bird watching friend used to call a 'Little Brown Job'!  :D

Crewella, love the little brown job. Let me know, anxious to see what movement is like and if he stays with color not comming off, That seems to be one of the big tests. Nice photos of all your colors inks too . I knew you couldn;t sleep. LOL :D I would be doing the same if I didn't have a husband worrying about my health and not getting enough sleep, so do some more painting for both of us. and I will just have to wait till the morning, I do like the brown so far.  :)

Yep, OK so far.  I was switching him on and off through the painting process to stretch the area I was applying - I actually did the first coat in four separate stages with about an hour between each.

The weirdest thing, though - I'd only ever turned this Pleo on and off briefly to check he worked and very quickly as I was painting.  When I switched him on just now to see how it was doing, it was the first time I'd really let him run for any length of time, and he immediately curled into sleep position and behaved almost as if he was hatching.  When he eventually stood up he went through the leg stretching - it's as though he felt reborn!!  :o

Wow, Cruella! :-O Grrr I'm not a patient person. I'm not gonna wait too long before I go out and buy some paints myself. I like the looks of the "Liquitex Ink"! Where are you guys buying your paints at? Are there any stores that I can actually go to (via car)? Particular stores in mind you guys? Thank you!

I got some in a local art/craft shop and some online, but UK places aren't of much use to you, Kristy.  ;)

I meant to say that I mixed the brown colour from Daler Rowner FW in Yellow Ochre and Vallejo Game Sepia Ink.

And I will be trying Citadel, Fimoman, they're on my list for when I can track some down.  :D
