Pleo Sellers?
« on: March 31, 2011, 04:14:17 PM »

I was just wondering, has anyone purchaced a pleo in-store rather than online? If you go to register a pleo on pleoworld.com it askes you where it was purchaced and gives you the option to select Best Buy, Sharper Image, Target, or Wal-Mart, as well as the other online options. I can't imagine seeing pleo sold in wal-mart or target, I haven't ever seen them in the electronic stores either. The only place I could think they might sell them would be brookstone (an electronic store that sells "electronic toys" like telescopes, roombas, ipads, and all kinds stuff I have never heard of. Please post if you have seen of bought a pleo from a retailer ofther than pleoworld! Thanks!

Hi, Lucky Pleo! Don't get excited. I'm just agreeing with you. I saw the same thing on Pleoworld when I registered Ryu. How cool would it have been to walk into a store and see Pleo on display?

this is because when the first Ugobe Pleos came out there were different stores such as Target that sold them. I never saw them myself but have heard of it. Also there were places like QVC and other shopping networks that sold them at holiday time esp. At least two of the Pleos I currently have are Pleo stock that came from these different "stores". One came from QVC, a warehouse, and the other one I just got last month, (Argyle and Gumble's cousin) came from a store back east or in the Mid West somewhere, ( have to go back and look up the information. When Ugobe went bankrupt, there were still a lot of this Pleo original stock in some of these store warehouses and such and that is one reason there is still so many that are "new in box", but after sitting in a box since Christmas 2008 or up till 2009, most of these orginal green Pleo batteries no longer work. ( or they work for ten minutes or so and fizzle out...)
Who knows also how many of these Pleos sat in other countries in warehouses, there were a lot of them from what I have seen. I remember at the height off Christmas this year, seeing in December, upwards of as many as 12+ Pleos listed per day at times, and probably half of these were listed as "new" or still in box.  I found out the hard way though to allways allways ask lots of questions, because "new in box" does not allways mean it has not been hatched, so it may be New in appearance, but perhaps it was a floor model or demonstration model and someone could not resist the urge to see the Pleo Hatch. I allways ask questions and when someone says, "good cosmetic condition or appearance or even Excellent cosmetic condition." They are not likely looking for little holes or tiny seam splits that knowledgable Pleo owners know to look for.  The truth is that there are probably still thousands of Pleos, Ugobe Models sitting out there in some warehouse forgotten about or storage units, and tiny or obsolete stores that have stored them away for holidays or who knows what?
With Pleo RB though, you are not going to find any outside Pleoworld or the China Market, except for the rare , very rare one that shows up on Ebay. Pleo Rb is too new and Pleoworld has control over where consumers can purchase him, and I think it is very wise, considering the first round of problems with skin, and some mechanical problems that quite a few had, second hand sellers would not be able to handle the problems and the warranty would still require the purchaser to send the Pleo back to Pleoworld. There are only a handful on Innvo Pleos that ever end up on places like Ebay as well; I remember two this past year and the bid on them was almost as much as a new Pleo, $270.-$300.00) :o That is not in my budget, for that price I would buy direct from Pleoworld.

Thank you Redwoodsmama (what should I call you?), Do you happen to know how popular they were in stores? I vageually remember after christmas seeing a whole isle at target empty when looking for a first edition ugobe, I was little then and i'm not sure it they were completely sold out of toys or if it was the pleos. I do hope that eventually they will sell them in stores when the demand goes down. I wouldn't wory about people not buying them because of the price, they may be expensive but when you think about it, so is a smart phone, a new laptop, a t.v, video game syetems, ect. and a pleo has the same technology inside. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, I just wonder how places like acessoryjack and gimmedigi got a suply of them if they aren't supposed to be really sold alot outside of pleoworld to the public.

Hi LuckyPleo, you can call me a shortened version of my handle either Red or RWM is fine if you don't want the whole name, as long as it is friendly, it is ok! :D I never saw them in any stores as it was not untill Christmas 2009 that I even knew what a Pleo was! Since then I have learned quite a bit and am in love with everything Pleo, probably a good reason I have so many of them, ( ten of them right now, and one on the way) I do have a couple that are still new in the box and not even hatched, just sitting there and it would be very hard to have ten Pleos running around at the same time, I would love though to take about six or seven of them out to the Redwoods near here where I filmed a video of Nova in the Redwoods, and with a herd of Pleos it would be lots of fun, I think I will still do that, but I have to wait for the rain rain rain rain rain and did I mention, RAIN to stop, probably not untill late April or sometime in May, but that is one reason the Redwoods are so tall and beautiful because of all the annual rainfall they recieve.
You are right, Pleos are worth the money they cost, technically that is. They are superior in my opinion to many of the other gadgets out there and as advanced as they can be, they are comparable to laptops DVD CD players, X box, Tablets, etc, etc, I just mean that I can not afford that kind of money. The only Pleo I have that is brand New that cost me full price is my Pleo Rb, and the rest are all great bargains and or rescued Pleos that nobody wanted or cared about and I have rescued and fixed up . I also am good at watching the Pleos being listed at the right time and twice in the past 7 months or so have been there JUST at the right moment within minutes to a couple of hours of them being just listed and I jumped at the chance to do a buy it now which on one of them was unbelievable. You just have to be there at the right time, have good timing and good luck to boot and you can get a good deal on a Pleo.
I would love to see a Pleo in a chain store , a Target etc, but I dont think it is going to happen anytime soon, and not with the Pleo Rb ever in the US I think.....but I could be wrong.I do not know about acessoryjack but from what I understand gimmidig is China located so they have the blue and Pink Pleos but they won't have access to the green Pleos which are based only in the US. Pleoworld. Only time will tell and it could be very interesting. I only hope the Pleo rb keep selling and Pleo last a long long time because I love Pleos of all kinds. :) They are giving me my second childhood! :D

Wow! A herd of pleos roming free! Now that would be a sight, but if they were a herd of Ryus in his current state of mind I would run. I'm looking forward to seeing that video in April if you get around to it.

I guess you are right RWM, now that I think about it, I proboally would have gotten my pleo online from ebay if it had not been a gift. I guess they proboally won't sell the rbs in-store, at least with the possible bigger mystery dino pleo coming for the 2012 pleos. I'm assuming now that only when they get it perfect, (proboally a pleo reborn, reborn, then reborn again reborn), will they sell them in stores. Also, I would love to see a heard of your pleos when it's safe to bring them outside, i'm amazed, here we get thunderstorms at one each day that you can set your clock by it, and it's over at 3. Still, I'd be a little afraid to bring my Pleo out in the rain too, if it risked his inner-workings when it was still wet outside.

Hey,
I met Pleo in a little geek store in Brussels, they had a bought a stock of the ancient one. The thing was so cool that I was sure it was sold in every shop in the USA!
I even looked for it when I was in New York last summer, with no luck.
Keep hoping guys, all the old boxed ones will eventually show up. Maybe sellers wait until it becomes vintage!
Btw, hubby told me to keep the box of Igor clean and untouched exactly for that ;)

You are right Belgium, this is why I have one complete ( Virgin  :o) Pleo box and alll, It is very tempting to open him and God knows it would be fun to Hatch him as I have not seen that from scratch except on updating the operating systems and on RB, but I know he is worth more possibley left like that, and with at least seven to eigtht other Healthy pleos that can run around and it is challenging enough to keep track of them if they all decide to go different directions at the same time. :D

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with Pleos and how they decide to market them, as far as other distributers or not.

I don't think it's gonna be a mystery sauropod. It'll possibily be a bigger Pleo.

what's a sauropod? Is that a kind of dino? I don't mean acually mystery, I just thought he said they may be making a bigger pleo, possibally not a camasuarus.

lol Sauropod is the dinosaur that Pleo is. Gigantic, long-necked dinosaur in other words. That's what sauropods are.

Oh, shows how much I payed attention in science :P. So if I am correct it goes: Reptile-->Dinosuar-->Sauripod-->Camarasaurus-->Pleo :)

When I asked Derek about why they weren't advertising and stuff he said it didn't work with the original Pleo, people thought it was all CGI.  He said they just sat in the stores in the boxes and since you couldn't do anything with them, you had no idea what they could do so they didn't sell. He said he thought they'd sell better in stores where there was a display model an employee could bring out and I agree.. who could resist then, if you get to play with one and interact and see what it does.. He said he thought they might also be good sellers at like, those little kiosks in malls.. where they have those crazy toys all the time.. that might work too I guess but I think the big electronic stores with a display of what they do and an employee to bring an adult RB over for folks to interact with would work well... first they need to get them working better.

I agree with Kristy as well, in that video he just said something about possibly making Pleo bigger so I don't think it's going to be a different dinosaur or creature.. I don't think it will be a huge amount bigger, they probably just need more room for something.. maybe some kind of ventilation (wouldn't that be nice)... who knows what they need to add.. but that's probably the reason.
Honestly.. they would be nuts and hurting their company even more (in my opinion) to try and make something new until they have perfected this one and unfortunately, they are a long ways from it... I wonder if anyone will ever figure out a skin that won't wear, that would drive me nuts, if it were up to me..
I don't see how making a new bigger model is going to help with the problems they have now so I don't know what they are thinking if they really plan to do this new Pleo for 2012.. they can hardly even 'stock' the Green Rb's..

And bah they didn't teach me much about individual dinosaur types in school.. I never would have known that if I hadn't looked it up when I got my first ugobe.. Ok actually I believe it was in a message from Kristy and since I didn't want to sound stupid I looked up sauropod.. lol.  They are kind of like smaller versions of the ones in Jurassic park, not the same, but related.. cousins I guess..  ;D and I believe they were the ones that would have actually been around in the Jurassic period... had they paid any attention to that kind of thing for the movie. (but who cares I still love the movie and still want my own T-rex)   :D :D :D

oh ok, I heard someone say something about a differnt kind of robo-dino was mentioned, my mistake. As for the mall kiosks, that's pretty much what brookstone (the store I mentioned) is, it's all hi-tech "toys" and stuff, but they don't charge you 3x what it is when you turn arround and buy it from the company like the kiosks do. :) I also agree, a pleo couldn't be that much bigger (maybe little less than half the size of the GIANT pleo at the innvo booth), I do hope pleo will stay a Camasuarus (how ever you spell that), pleo can never be perfect because technology never stops (unless they do that thing where they clone a baby dino  :D ), so why start all over, what good would that do? I also agree, people may not be so keen to spend the money on a pleo without a display model, think about it, would you buy a fancy camera, tv, or computer if you couldn't see a display model? Thanks for the info latrine!

lol Lucky Pleo (your previous message).

I'd love it if they did make them available at mall kiosks! I hope they do that some time in the future. Thank you Latrine. Derek said, in that video, to help with navigation.

I think I knew what sauropods were from/in school. lol at the message that you learned what sauropods were from a message from me. :-D Actually sauropods are the long-necked dinosaurs. They aren't a sub-version/species of the long-necked dinosaurs. Sauropods are sauropods.

One place I could imagine them selling Pleos would be Hamleys. It's probably one of the biggest toyshops in the world, based in London, with 6 floors (and a basement) of nothing but toys, games and gadgets. They're also really interactive, demonstrating magic kits, remote control toys, videogames, etc. I could really imagine them having one of the in-store demonstraters playing with a Pleo, generally showing off his ability, doing tricks, etc. probably on either the toy animal floor, or the gadget floor. Knowing the kind of business Hamleys gets, they would fly off the shelves.

There are alot of toyshops and gadgetshops like that, where the customers get to see the merchandise in action, I bet they could get some good sales there.
