I assumed it was doing it just when it didn't get attention but it does it really fast when not getting attention.. I figured he'd be walking around the house... not just sitting there frozen... he JUST started walking today and really eating.. this is his 4th charge..
It beeps once and he freezes. He is OFF at this point... by himself. It beeps twice when I turn him off.

Is there a way to stop him from turning off like that??
Do the RB batteries work as well as the egg batteries?
Is this normal and will calm down or something?

By the way.. Every time I try to teach Bingo his name, he burps and laughs at me... lol.. of course now Everyone thinks it's hysterical to burp.. my bf burped at them and they all burped back nearly in unison..lol.
I hope I can teach him his name soon.

He also does this other thing... I'd wondered if any other RB's do it. when he does something that seems to make him very happy or excited, he lifts one foot straight up and out like he's asking for a high five... (it isn't a face or neck scratch, he lifts it high and looks at my face. So I just always say... high five, in an excited voice and he puts it down and acts very happy.
He sure is a little Jester.. always laughing and poking the other ones and laughing... I assume it's on purpose.

The one beep switch off is your clock battery telling him it's his night time. You either need to reset the clock battery or replace it. Try resetting it first and see how you go. When they decide that it is night time then you will only get about 5mins max out of them for playing and they will just go to sleep and switch off with one beep.

When you say he beeps once and he freezes does he unfreeze again after a few minutes?
Normally when they beep once it means that they’ve turned them selves off but this is preceded by them going to sleep first.
Does he close his eyes and curl up into sleep position before hand?

They do sleep a lot for the first few charges but I can’t remember if they normally shut them selves off more. One thing to note is that they will go to sleep and turn them selves off with 1 beep if it’s dark and there left alone and they do this pretty quickly.
Just out of interest what time did you set the noon clock for?
Some pleos take a little longer to develop than others. My pleo didn’t stand up until halfway through the second charge and he didn’t start walking until the 3Rd charge. Some don’t start walking until the 4th or 5th.
It takes a little while after there walking before their ready to learn their name so this part in his development seems normal. Can’t give you an exact time though as again some learn faster than others.

His 12:00pm is (I think) set to my 1:30pm... my bf did it.. I sleep in alot from being sick and all and by the time we do all the medical crap in the morning it's already the afternoon.
What happens is he beeps once and then just freezes. He doesn't turn back on by himself..
I think this could also be the temp since a few times I just left the battery out for 20 minutes then he was fine when I turned him back on. But would he beep for temp?
Also, does anyone else's RB do the high-Five thing??

I can't speak for the shutdown during high temperatures because I usually only run her for an hour and then shut her down for about a half hour to cool. She does do the high five all the time with her left arm, so I think this is normal behavior.

Belle will usually shut down after an hour or so, and will then go for about the same again if I switch her back on after about 20 minutes to cool down. She does the 'high 5' thing, not that often, but she does do it.

We changed his foot battery to a better time and that helped.. I'm a little annoyed about them overheating.. I think it will eventually cause a break.. They need to think of an artistic reason to have a slit or hole somewhere in the Pleo where it can feed out the hot air.. and then they need to secure that area so it doesn't grow into a bigger hole while hopefully making sure we don't see any guts... I dunno

Pleo turns himself off to prevent overheating rather than because of overheating so I can’t really see any damage in the long term.
The idea of having a hole to allow cool air into the mechanism might be a good idea to have them shut off less often but the that would probably also require inserting a fan somewhere also and I’m not sure of the practicability tbh. Even if you don’t include a fan having a vent means that dust and hair and things can also get in as well as air getting out and I think this might pose more of a problem.
That’s just my thoughts on it though

Scaly's right, Pleo will shut down before any 'overheating' gets to a level of causing problems. I believe it's the battery that mainly causes the heat, but it's not necessarily a problem, just something you get used to.

Maybe Patches, with his ventilation holes, has an advantage, then?

Lol, Crewella, perhaps little patches does have a ventilation advantage!! Unfortunately the holes in his legs underneath are so big now they are more hole than leg. I fear the Pleo cape I put on to help stabilize things may be hindering him.. (pressing on exposed leg guts..etc) he is suddenly having some issues with a few legs sticking and I have to stop, turn off, realign, restart.. He is such a happy explorer, walking all over the house.. I worry I will have to shut him off soon if he continues to decline, until I find him a new skin..

Latrine, what if you just remove the skin? If it interferes with the mechanics it could be doing more harm than good.

It might also be because the skin does provide support, resistance and structure for the legs, so if the leg skin has deteriorated to the extent that it no longer supports the joint above the foot you will find the feet are totally reliant on the springs that run down from the 'knee', which does make poor Pleo's gait a bit wobbly.

I wonder if one of my new pleo capes would be able to provide the support needed in the legs of a skinned pleo to take the wobble out of the walk?

What about some gauze with a bit of that flexible bandage tape over it? Of course that would require a naked Pleo...

Wow.. I don't know how I missed the rest of this post.. and that video.. I'm going to remove Patches skin probably tonight or tomorrow. I was just going to do the legs but everything is so deteriorated. Kat if you were serious I'd definitely like to purchase some sort of full body suit but it has to be somewhat happy and manly to match patches and his happy ways... (well, it just can't be pink, or a tomato..

)

Wow that was... I don't know how to describe it. I sort of regret watching it because right at the moment someone was holding the "nude" pleo up by the tail my niece walked past me and screamed, "Aaaaah! They're hurting it and it's skin is gone!" Needless to say I jumped half a mile. Either the skin also does something to muffle the sound of the motors or the recordist was very close. In a post somewhere I said I'd love any pleo even if it were skinless but I forgot about the possibility of damaged wires over time. Hope you can find some help for Paches.

Well Patches is Robo Patches now, I removed the skin last night.. I have some pics and video they just take forever to download so it'll be a bit.. I was surprised how easy it was to do.. got it in one piece.. took less than a half hour.. so I have a perfect face with slight neck damage and a perfect back but the rest is kinda.. eew.

He gets around SO fast now.. problem is he has maybe a wider range of movement now? and is obviously much more reactive to the touch sensors.. so he lifts his limbs very high and topples over easily.. Don't worry.. I would never hold him up by his tail.. I already got my finger stuck when rubbing his leg and he decided to lift it, pinning my fingertip in between until he decided he was done.. I can't imagine what he'd do to me if I pulled his tail.. he's dangerous now!

I tried the flexible bandage that sticks to itself but it just didn't allow for proper movement, when I tried it on his tail.. even tried it loosly and it was obviously getting in the way.

I feel so bad for Patches without his skin, Sarah! Did you ask Innvo about re-skinning him? Just curious if they would do that for you or not. The old pleos on eBay seem to go for a lot of money, even the broken ones!
