Roboraptor Or D-rex?
« on: February 04, 2011, 01:52:35 AM »

:-\ I am thinking of getting a robotic dinosaur playmate for my pleo Furby. Should I get a  roboraptor or a D-rex ?
If D-rex fight with roboraptor who will win

I'd go for D-rex, personally.  I think they have more character, and I love their 'eyebrows'!  :D

I love my D-rex, but look out for peeling paint and easily torn skin.  I got it for my 2 year old daughter for her birthday, since she loves T-rex. It's her favorite dino, but it snarls and scares the heck of her.  Now I keep it as a watch dog in my kitchen while I am cooking so she stays away from my hot stove.  If she comes into the kitchen, I just put him on attack mode, and she runs back into the living room.   :P

Mattel has a newer dinosaur from the D-Rex. Cruncher http://www.amazon.com/Cruncher-Prehistoric-Pets-Interactive-Dinosaur/dp/B00383PNBW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296847639&sr=8-1 . I don't know whether or not WoW Wee or Mattel are coming out with new robots this year. I like what you do with it in your kitchen! rotfl Edit: WoW Wee got back to me. They said they aren't coming out with any robots this year.

There are a lot more products from Mattel circulating... I believe their Prehistoric Pets line is becoming very successful!

Here is a full inventory of their products:

D-Rex is very fun-- They still keep on doing things that I've never seen them do before!  While many of them do seem defective for whatever reason, they are very interactive.
They have sensitive hearing, and will turn toward you if they hear something; they also have seek mode, in which you can call them, and they will walk toward you (even if they have to turn, which they are surprisingly efficient at!).  However, their sight seems to be just as awful as that of a Pleo.....!
I'm also quite convinced that, judging by the personalities of Reno and Rude, that some of them may have different programming than others (whether on purpose or not) to make them more individual?

And you really do get some excellent expressions out of them!

And it's fun to make them look not-so-serious!

I admit I've only played with a roboraptor for a VERY short time (it was not my own), but I think D-Rex is superior and more fun.

I had a Roboraptor for a while.  The movements were very quick, especially the head, and the reactions were very good, but it didn't feel autonomous enough for me.  More of a robot toy than an interactive pet.

Wow.. I figured it was the other way around.. robo raptor seemed much better to me than that jumpy robo reptile.. is he controlled by a remote though? and while I've never played with any of them.. I always thought d-rex's humongous feet looked a little odd.

Pleo would definatly win.. haven't you guys seen how many costumes he had... he could pull one of those scooby doo stunts while dressed as a small child and be say something in dino language like 'he went thattaway'  then he could change into a different costume.. like a cop or something.. and none would be the wiser.

My housemate has a roboraptor and it is currently watching over the frigde because it failed to walk and "does not have knees" like Pleo. I think my housemate was looking for something to stop me from wanting a Pleo at the time FAIL. :P
So this would lead me to suggest the Cruncher or D- Rex.

I don't think so.  I imagine it would get stuck in the mechanical things inside.

Not having the softer skin is not all that bad on the + side with Robo-raptor at least you do not get tears or paint loss in the skin , My son has both Cruncher and D-rex and both of them are really really cool KIDS toys so i definately recommend , Cruncher does move very fast in attack mode i would just like to add.

Yes, I have. the Pleo's seem to always be afraid of D.Rex's when they first see them, but then once they see that they aren't in danger they calm down and don't seem to mind them after that. but the Pleo's will sometimes say "hello" to them. (and a D.Rex CAN NOT bite a Pleo, it is impossible for them to bend their head down, and their head is to high to bite a Pleo, so there isn't any danger from them.) and there haven't been many or any interactions with the roboraptors. (other then them lunging at me/the Pleo's once...)

I have to say d-rex because robo raptor is more a toy and d- rex is more of a robot in a way but not as sophisticated as pleo I have a d-rex she gets along with my pleo aka Comaro and its nice to have somthing to hang around with pleo when i am away. ;)

Sometimes they don't get along though.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRdrxRHfm8Q&feature=related
