My gold i-cybie
« on: December 29, 2010, 02:56:41 PM »

Today I received my gold i-cybie with walk up charger. I'm at work all day so won't get to check him out until tonight. He came with 3 batteries, but the seller already alerted me that one is kaput and the other two are not great. No matter is bought two new ones from a guy in the UK so they'll do until I receive them.

I'll post pics and vids throughout. There's not a lot of good info about them on the net so I think getting some decent videos out there is a must.

So the box is a bit worn out, but the dog is in mint condition. It's night here right now so I'll turn him on tomorrow and take a video to post here. He doesn't have a markmor scratch and his feet pads look as though he's never walked on any hard hard surface.

Well the batteries I got were kaput (just as the seller anticipated) so I'm completely discharging them over night to see if I can rebirth them for a while before the new batteries arrive.

More goods news:- I contacted the seller and he just sold me a blue walk up charger, power supply, walk up charger cartridge and 3 x personality cartridges for me other (blue) i-cybie.  ;D

So I named my blue one "Bluey" (very Aussie name for a blue heeler dog), but not sure what to name my gold one. Any suggestions?

Well, there is allways, " Goldfinger", like the 007 James Bond movie or also I like the name, Nugget.

Not yet. The batteries that came with him are screwed so I had to discharge them overnight and now I'm recharging them. Hopefully I can breathe new life into them. I'm not too concerned because I ordered those new ones and they have to come from the UK.

Oz, that is a great photos, very cool and creepy but more cool and funny than anything, Glad you liked my idea of Nugget,  This photo reminds me of a couple of things, like " Frankenstein, and Metropolis the 1927 Masterpiece silent movie all about Robots and society, but more recently the song, " who let the Dawgs out!" or in this case, " Who let the i-cybies out!" :D

So the discharge/recharge technique worked  ;D I was only getting 5 minutes from the battery but after discharging it overnight then recharging today after an hour it was still going strong.

Anyway here's my first (not so good) video of Nugget. I'm not quite sure what to do with an i-cybie as yet, but wouldn't you know it after I took this video he became more lively and was doing more of his own thing  %)

Looks like you had some fun and set up the voice commands!  I forgot how much I liked the i-Cybie coming to you.  Still love the battery charge 'yoga' position though - I'll miss it if/when I get the self-charging sorted!  :D

Here's Nugget feeding (recharging). He walked up to the charging station just fine and walks away when he's done. I'll post a vid another time showing him doing that.

Nugget and Bluey finally get to meet, but unfortunately Bluey's battery died within seconds after this video was taken (lasting a mere 5 minutes). Soon he'll have a new one.

Nugget seems a bit of a bully. Notice how at different moments they actually speak to each other.

Here's Nugget falling asleep. What happens is if there is no noise and little activity the i-cybie will go through this sleepy routine up to 4 times, after the 4th run he'll fall into deep sleep.

Bluey definitely felt the need to mark his territory in front of the newcomer!! :P :D :D

So, overall, are you pleased with them?

Yes I am pleased with them. I've considered getting an i-cybie for years, but the scant information on the web didn't really tell me much about them. Now they're no PleoRB of course, but I have read quite a few negative comments from Aibo owners which made me hesitant. I suspect these people probably own the last model Aibo 7 because I use to have an Aibo 210 and Aibo 311 and the i-cybie is comparable to them, the only difference being the i-cybie doesn't follow a pink ball. Both the i-cybie and the latter mentioned Aibo models wander about the house, they both want to be petted often, they both want attention to remain entertaining and they both do little skits to amuse themselves when left alone.

Also with those two models of AIbo the 210 had a head and back button that acted like touch sensors (i-cybie has those too) the Aibo 311 you had to press it's head downward to indicate "good boy". Whilst the AIbo 210 could self charge it wasn't very good at it and a lot of the time it was hit or miss, sometimes it wouldn't make it in time and collapse in front of the charger (Aibo 311 didn't have this ability at all) whereas i-cybie walks up to and leaves it's charger accurately every time. The Aibi 210 had expressive eyes via a combination of lights, i-cybie has that too (Aibo 311 expressed itself through a series of beeping sounds and a ring of light around it's non-moveable tail). The idea that Aibo 210 and 311 learnt from their environment is reflected in i-cybie. Nugget (my gold i-cybie) has never been used whereas Bluey was and I can tell you Bluey is way more adventurous and cheeky than Nugget. He performs more routines when on his own than Nugget does, however the more I have Nugget running the more he is showing signs of independence.

Having two i-cybies is more entertaining as they do communicate and play with each other and they do learn from each other. Last night I noticed Nugget had started to copy some of the habits of Bluey often mimicking him in some instances because he had done some routines I never seen him do before until he'd played with Bluey. I believe the only Aibo that was more advanced than i-cybie was the 7 series.
