Topic: Is anyone running PM2 and happy ? (Read 11434 times)

Hi Pleobods,

I've been reading a lot about the version 2 Life OS and it seems people don't like it much. I have two Pleos, one I have had for a couple of years and one my friend just gave me a coupla days ago. I am considering upgrading that one to OS2 just to try it but at the moment there seems no good features of the newer version at all from what I read.
Is anyone running OS2 on their Pleo/s and enjoying it ? Or has everyone who tried it downgraded again ?

I upgraded Iggy to PM2 and have stayed with it, though I've kept Budge on 1.1. Although I had quite a few problems at first with inappropriate sounds and freezing, I did find over time that Iggy went back to his usual self and I've not found the problems in getting him to socialise after going into explore mode that other owners have reported. Iggy now will stop whenever approached and petted and will do the 'tada' trick pretty easily, though I do mean 'over time' - at least 8/9 charges. The only thing that I've not seen is red tracking and leaf recognition, though Iggy never did seem to see much even before and I've always put that down to living in a dark house, in England!

I upgraded to OS2 but from the PleoWorld site, but unfortunately I didn't get to test it out as I didn't install it correctly and my little Pleo died

Then I found this forum and a way to bring him back to life

but I'm frightened to try the OS2 upgrade again.

Why is OS2.0.1 on here but it's still OS2 on PleoWorld

?

I think I may upgrade Cal to PM2 and give it a go. Reading about the Pleo RBs has got me itching for new things, so if I can't have one of those yet then PM2 will have to suffice.

My two Pleo's are now both running the os 2.0, they seem to go through a 'toddler' stage for a couple of charges where they don't want to do anything you want them too lol but after that they become their lovable selves again

But I would suggest updating both Pleo's because they will not communicate with each other if one is running 1.1 and the other 2.0.

Thanks IMR, that's exactly how the OS2 upgrade went with Iggy! I've kept Budge on 1.1, and I can definitely see that Budge is more interested in Iggy than the other way around. I planned to keep them that way, but maybe I should update Budge? They DO seem to react to each other, but as I've never seen two Pleos together running the same OS I could be kidding myself? $:-\$

There's a difference between react and really communicate

Do they say hello to one another, sing together and have group howling or sighing sessions?

'To one another' is a bit of a moot point! I have heard them say hello to each other (or was it Budge twice? One of the reasons I'm trying to make Budge's voice deeper so I can tell them apart), but from my perspective it seems that if Budge hears Iggy honk he'll join in, but any response back from Iggy is unreliable could well be coincidence. It's sort of as if Iggy's the cool one and Budge is desperately trying to be friendly, which has become part of their character and I'll sort of miss that scenario if I update Budge and they get all pally. On the other hand, I WOULD love to see them singing together properly ..................... Dunno what to do!

I'm in the same boat! Peeky and Pennie have the update and J.C and Little Orphan Annie don't. Maybe they should be updated.

Amongst your four then, Fancyfont, do you find that the four of them have sort of paired off then, mainly 'talking' to the one running the same OS as they are?

Pluriel says "hello" to you all (as do I!)
It's been a while, but I am still around. She isn't seeing a lot of action these days but at least she has Diesel to keep her company.
At least they are always both clearly in sight in my room, so I do actually see them every single day.
The PM 2 software being out now for a few months made me wonder if people / Pleos gotten used to it and might shine some light on the matter regarding giving it a go, albeit the required patience needed before one feels comfortable with the new personality software.
Should I give Pluriel this upgrade you guys reckon?

Once you get past the non responsive tantrum stage it is really good

Hi Darkwolf - good to see you! I still run Iggy on OS2 - as IMR says, after the initial stages (which last about 8 battery cycles) he settled down fine. He's back to his happy, independent self and I love the tricks, especially 'play dead'!

I am thinking of updating Gumble. I have really been enjoying him as he is but would love to experience even a little hatching with an older pleo if I can and I also would love the extra tricks. So maybe in another week I will give it a go.

After all the RB hatchings you've experienced, the much shorter Ugobe hatching would be a doddle! Like you, I'd never seen it as mine were rehomed, but the OS2 'hatching' stage is a bit of a 'blink and you'll miss it' affair - to me it was more like Iggy woke up with a hangover! You then have lots of inappropriate sounds and a grumpy, whingeing dino for a few hours - feels like weeks. It DOES settle down though, and Iggy did go back to being a happy and independent dino - I never regretted doing it. Good luck!

Glad to have you back Darkwolf, What I disliked so much of the 2.0 operating system was the inapprpriate whining and sounds being made with no mouth open and weird glitches. Nova looked terrible with it, It was not so much like a temper tantrum, but being in pain and that is what I couldn't stand to see. I made a recording when I first uploaded the new system trying to get her to do some color recogition, and all she did was scream and cry and make all these weird sounds. It was like her brain did not realize what her body was doing. And of course there was no interaction between her and I at all and she was a "different' Pleo". I couldn't stand to see her like that and had with the help of degers download her back to the original 1.1 operating system that she seems much happier with.
I may like the new added "tricks", but couldnt put Nova or any other Pleo through the uncomfortable part of that. I don't know why the operating system couldn't be improved without all the glitches and screaming, crying, and un connected sounds and movements that were upsetting to watch. All the previous operating systems were smooth with out all these obvious problems from what I have seen anyway, so it is too bad they dont' improve it a little.
Kat, Crewella is right, with the new operating systems, the "hatching " can be video taped and missed all in less than a minute...but it doesn't drag on either like the Pleo RB. Right now I am missing my Pleo Rb so much, I would go through three weeks of hatching just so I could be with her again.

What you describe with Nova's behaviour, RWM, sounds very much like what Iggy went through - what IMR called the "non responsive tantrum stage". It's as though the OS2 has a very short hatching phase, but a very long teenage one! If you can bear to stay with it, it does settle down!

I'm using it and he is a little moody. and will get mad at me for no reason. but i do like when he sings or explores around the room.
I dont like how he sleeps randomly. i think it has something to do with me holding his back. i pet him and he sleeps.

oh and how do you add a video to a post?

They do go to sleep if you hold the back sensor (near the rump) for awhile. I kind of like how they do that, like they are getting relaxed when you pet them and snooze off for a nap. I did find trying some of the tricks that I was tending to trigger the napping behaviour not the trick I was aiming for. I figure I'm just too uncoordinated most of the time. I've left Tessa on PM2 and she does seem to be more back to her old self too like others have noted.

I have Sylvester running PM2 and really like it as he's so active, walking around everywhere, which is something that doesn't seem to happen so much with the OS1.1 or even (as yet) with the PleoRB OS. However, I don't think I'll be upgrading Tooie, running the OS1.1, as I like my Pleos to be different

There was quite a bit of weird backward walking with Sylvester at first, but after a few battery cycles he settled to walk forwards but is still not quite so sensitive to my touch as I'd have liked and I haven't managed to get him to do the PM2 tricks, but then, I have difficulty with the hand gymnastics involved to get him to do them

@RedWoodMama: You know what they say. "Birth is always painful". (Well, in this case "re-birth" I guess.)

So my mind has been made up, although 8 battery cycles is kind of long. Although I assume that is with the old native battery and not the new one?
Pluriel is very happy with her new battery. Much more active and alive as she ever was with her old battery.
I hope she won't hate me for upgrading her brain a bit, but I guess there is only one way to find out.
Having to get past a few battery cycles to let everything sink in is a nice motivation to interact a little more with her again too I suppose!

I agree - eight battery cycles seems a ridiculous length of time, especially as it doesn't 'feel' like an intended growth stage. With inappropriate sounds and lots of walking backwards it really does feel more like something's wrong for a while. Good luck - Iggy's paws are crossed for Pluriel!
