Glue to repair skin
« on: November 01, 2021, 07:40:43 PM »

I bought some Gibbs for my Ugobe’s skin but too late… found a small tear and hole on his neck. Anyone have experience with the best kind of glue to repair it with? I am in the US, if that helps. I tried some generic superglue and that didn’t work at all.

I've tried various glues without much success.  When it comes to superglue, some do work, but can end up drying hard and/or leave a crust.  Check out this topic: Pleo skin repair test

In case anybody's still wondering - I've read the forum pretty extensively being a newbie - but no one has mentioned the fact that there is a glue specific to TPE - it's used the repair sex dolls. Sorry if that offends anyone but it's just a fact. It is available in small quantities from China via eBay or AliExpress. I have some on order but not yet received to try to do some repairs to my 2 x Pleos. I'll do a follow up if anyone's interested after I have experimented.

Here's an eBay link to the same stuff I've ordered on AliExpress.....  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284404160629?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Hope this helps someone.....     Mick

Hi all, and mweed  ;),
Well, mixed results I'm afraid. The stuff is the consistency of any old glue - like Bostic - and dries - when inside the joint - quite flexible. BUT the problem is, and glue that dries outside the skin-joint dries like superglue - clear but crispy. If you pull off the crispy skin, it pulls the good stuff out of the joint - very frustrating. So - everyone will say - keep it inside the joint. But the TPE skin is so thin it's almost impossible. I have made some good joints but it really tricky.

So some joints I have to leave the shiny skin..... doesn't look too wonderful, but it is glued. Some joints I'm going to have to keep trying.......

It's obviously designed for much thicker TPE..... takes about 15 mins to go 'off' ..... another hour or so before it can be moved..... then 24 hours before it's cured. The hardest part then is getting it ONLY inside the thickness of the tear, and holding the two sides up tight whilst it goes off. Neither tape, nor bluetack work..... rubber bands each side of the potential join - to hold the neck or tail round a 'former' - pipe or something  similar - then pushing the two edges together. It works OK if you keep excess glue off the bands, the former, and the top of the skin..... ???

If anyone wants to try it let me know.........

Hi all - follow up to the TPE glue from China;

Well the good and the bad - the good - the splits that I was extremely careful doing (cleaning with acetone first, etc) stay shut

The bad - they still tend to split at the edges of the repair  :(  and widen out.

All a bit frustrating - I have to say that on the whole really it's a failure... sorry all.....

Re: Glue to repair skin - but heat is much better

Hi again everyone. Wow, its a bit quiet on here so I thought I'd do a quick video about my findings with trying to repair skin tears on our beloved Pleos.

I tried a whole variety of glues, even specialist TPE glue as above from China with mixed results...

I decided to try a repair using heat. It worked very well, but you need some spare skin. As Ramin Assadollahi sold me his Pleo RB skin I had a spare albeit shredded one to experiment with. So it's here on YouTube for you to peruse at leisure......

I hope you find it at least interesting, and by all means ask me if you want some further tips to try it out.

Still having fun!
