Umbilical Cord?
« on: June 12, 2009, 06:38:22 PM »

Hello,
I saw an idea on the internet to make an umbilical cord for the Pleo (i.e., constantly have it powered). This archived thread describes the batteries and thermistor that the battery uses -> http://web.archive.org/web/20080103171218/http://forums.pleoworld.com/showthread.php?t=902
I was wondering if anyone had tried it before? Any success? Did you really need the thermistor?
My current plan is get a power supply (7.2v) and hook it up via alligator clips and maybe a 5k resistor.

Also, I'm curious if anyone had used a different charger for the batteries. 4 hours is a little too long for my attention span...

I'll post pictures/results if I man up and do it, I guess. :)
THANKS!

The pleo circuitry expects a thermistor, but it's purely to keep an eye on the battery.  If you use an umbilical cord, you don't have to worry about the battery overheating, but you will need to wire up something to convince pleo that there is a thermistor.

Since you're checking the old pleoworld forums you should find some threads on some people who did play around with the battery and chargers.  The battery pack is a standard NiMH, and they did report using an R/C battery quick charger.
