Ugobe PLEO first battery cycle questions
« on: November 13, 2016, 08:47:58 PM »

I managed to charge up Suse's battery and got ~ 25 minutes of activity, which is much better than I had initially expected- the seller stated that the battery was entirely dead! Thankfully, I did get a bit of time to get to know him before he ran out of power.

I do, however, have some initial questions. I snooped around the forums but could only find these questions answered in terms of RBs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Any links, specific answers, or general guesses would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I noticed about Suse was the long black button across from his charger. I pressed this as he had his fresh battery in, (he was off) and he woke up in a bit of a babyish state- I assume this was the reset button. He brightened up halfway through the cycle so I assume he passed into child stage. Am I completely wrong? Did PLEO blank or did the button do this manually?

I also noticed that Suse was not too enthused with the concept of walking. He really just wanted to eat (he eats a lot but starts to retch afterwards) and be patted on his head. Do Ugobes ever walk or do they wait until teen/adult to start moving around a bit more?

Finally, there is a port near the reset button. What is this used for? Is there a cable for a UGOBE to get information from a computer, or is this there simply for testing purposes?

So far, this has been quite the experience! :)

Thanks in advance,
linuxed

Glad to hear you've gotten some more life out of the battery!

The black button is not a reset button, its main purpose is to put the Pleo in packing position if you hold it down while the Pleo is operating. I'm not sure why Suse was acting like that at the start of his battery cycle, but it's possible that he was already in hatching stage when you got him or that he was just sleepy.

Ugobes generally walk more than RBs, but if you're petting and feeding them constantly, they're more likely to stay put. Try leaving him alone for a bit and he'll probably start to wander.

And yes, you can use a cable for some programming features of the Ugobe and that port can be used. I have only ever directly used the SD card for updates and such though, so you would probably have to ask others for more information on this feature.

Aibo7m3,
Ah! So that's why he went back into that position. I was wondering why that button would be so accessible- that explains it perfectly.
He took his first few steps on the kitchen counter today and it was very exiting. I left him around to see if he'd pick it up again, but he instead decided to curl up and take a nap... :P

That turned out to be the issue! He is very happy and outgoing now. I am planning on upgrading him to 2.0.1, is it possible to downgrade if I don't like the adult stage?

You can downgrade the Ugobe pleos.  Check the downloads section for the files.  Depending on what version you want, you will end up having to downgrade to 1.0 and then install the upgrade to the desired version.

Thanks, grumpy. Found the downgrades and archived them, just in case. ;)
