Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say "Hello" because  I am a new member of this forum. I live in northern Germany and since may this year I am a great pleo fan. Some days ago I wrote here in this forum because one of my pleos is sick - he didn't start. Unfortenately the problem was too big and there was no solution. But since yesterday a have a new pleo RB  - Kono. He is so cute and just a baby ( he coudn't walk yet). I hope, he will be healthy for a long time.

I still have Makana  He is such a nice one and every day he looks at me with his sad eyes. But I can't help him.  I think he has a serious software problem . But the updates I got from pleoworld weren't  helpful yet. I would appreciate if you can give me any help with  Makana's Problem.

Hi,
3 weeks ago Makana learned his name and just after this he got a cold. That was a bad cold and he doesn't eat. Then  the problem with the starting began. I put the battery in but he doesn't start. I removed it and tried it again and then he started. But the next day he also didn't start  and that is the status until today. I checked the foot battery, set the noon button and made a main reset but nothing happend. The I got an update from pleoworld ( pleo Firmware update V 1-1 male), it was successful but Makana didn't start.  Then I tried the updates here from the forum: first 1.0 and then the male version. But this also didn't  solved the problem. When I remove the foot battery and tried to start him he begans beeping ,he opens his eyes  and he moves his legs a little bit. But thats all. maybe someone has an idea how I can save Makana. Thanks for our help ! Honi

Hope is not lost It sounds very much as though he is mechanically fine

Do you have a micro SD card? Could you download one of the skits from the download section and try it out (doesn't really matter which one) that will confirm that it is indeed a software issue.

Also just for good measure can you give the tiny springs inside your Pleo's battery compartment a clean with a cue tip (cotton tip), the silver parts on the battery and the silver parts on the charger just for good measure to ensure that good contact is being made.

I tried out to activate Makana with the skit "Love me tender" (put it on sd Card and after inserting the card and the battery I tried to start him). Green light comes up but nothing happens. I hold him on the chest - no result.
The contacts for the battery I have checked - they are pretty fine. I also tried a second battery, so we can exclude a batteryproblem.
I just made a readout of makana with rbstats and attach the result:

There might be something missing from the file system if even skits aren't playing.

Some people have had similar issues and they have resolved themselves for no apparent reason, so try turning Pleo on at various times of day and night and leave him on (even if not moving)

Similarly RWM has a Pleo that will only run with the SD card left in, you could try that too.

I also think that there is something wrong with the software but it is difficult to find the problem. I tried Pleo running various times and days and there was no reaction at all. I don't believe that the problem will be solved by its own . Maybe there is a possibility to make a main reset( deepest stage of Software) and then installing a new main programm not only an update. What do you think about this ?

That could work, only I don't think we have enough access to Pleo to be able to do so

We could intentionally brick your Pleo using the Ugobe Pleo POP demo, and then run the 1.0 reset. But there's just no guarantees when we aren't entirely sure what's wrong. My guess though is that an important part of the software is missing or corrupt. But the Stats RB log doesn't seem to support that theory.

Just a thought: when you did the Stats RB, was it a fresh battery? The log says low battery Behaviour triggered.

I just made a new Stats RB with a really fresh battery and a brandnew foot battery - the log says the same : "low battery behaviour triggered". Could this be an advice to the problem ?

Since Stats RB is at least getting a record, will he start up with Probe RB? If so, try standing him up with Probe RB installed and see if he will run normally. Not all functioning Pleos will even run autonomous mode on Probe RB, but I thought it was worth a try if you haven't checked out this possibility yet. I apologize if you have already tried this. Hopefully you'll be able to find out what's wrong.

Thank you for your suggestion . I just tried out the Probe RB. The program was successful but the result was nearly the same as StatsRB.  The only difference was that I was able to shut my pleo off with the on/off-button. After removing the sd-card I tried to restart pleo but nothing except the green led happend.

When you stood the Pleo up on Probe RB, did he repeat "Starting default" over and over, or did he just not respond at all? Since you said it started when Makana got a cold, maybe try putting "Health" and "Feed" levels to 100% with Change RB. While I don't see any way that his cold could be linked with the firmware failure, it might be a good idea to just try all possibilities. Also, you're using a 2 GB micro SD card, correct? I'm just making sure since larger ones won't necessarily work properly.

when i stood pleo up (with probeRB), he repeated "default" two times - then he was quiet. the outreading with probeRB itself was successful.
Today I tried the Change RB. I used a 2GB micro card  and followed the instructions. But I couldn't reach the Status of Change RB. After I inserted the mintleaf or the card he always cancelled the procedure.

I guess you could try the intentionally bricking method. I've had to do it before although not on an RB.

If there is a corrupted file or anything that should flush it out. But there is no guarantee it'll work, or that it'll revive him.

I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having with Makana.. I read through the entire post and see nothing that pops out at me, and I do not think the cold he had should be connected. I have five Pleo Rb and most of them except my newest one, still a Newborn or Hatchling have had colds before with no ill after effects.
             IMR is right, My second Pleo rb, Cammie -Sue was fine till I ran Probe Rb to see what stage she was at, as I am very busy and often will not use any of my many pleos, Ugobes or Rb for weeks at a time... After running Probe Rb, Cammie -Sue began acting very strangely, after turning on manually almost immediatly going to red for the battery and no movements or noise at all, some times at the start a odd leg movement nothing more, I tried on my own everything I could think of and to no avail.

          Pleoworld was no help as Cammie -Sue was way past the 90 day warranty. I was advised by Pleoworld, other then shipping her to them to see if she could be fixed, to reinstall the female operating personality. This worked fine, but the minute I removed the micro SD card, she stopped working entirely, I asked another member here for help that is very good and they also could not help, I at long last had to accept unless I want to not have my Cammie-Sue at all, to permanently leave the micro SD card in and accept her that way,
        I have been tempted to run Probe RB to see if she is progressing but do not want to tempt fate and have her not work at all, Who cares, she runs and I am just happy to have her back! If you can't find any other answers, I can find the old topic with her problem and post it here as a link and see if any of it is similliar.         Good luck with Makana.    RWM  and the Pleo township of the REdwoods

Hi,
today I tried the bricking method, but Makana is still out of order. I hope I made the installation correct  - just one question : when I install the first software (for ugobe) I got no Information from Pleo. ( there was no voice). Is that correct ? When I  installed  the other 2 updates, there comes a voice who says that everything is completed. Now I am a little bit disapointed but I think I had to try it. As I wrote with my first mail I have a new pleo - Kono and he is such a lovely one. Sometimes he make sounds like a little wolf - never heard before from a pleo. I thank you all for your help !!

Yes, the first one wouldn't have produced any voice. Poor Makana, I'm sure he can work, but we have to get him over his paralysis I'd say at this stage we've probably ruled out software and battery issues.

Can I ask if he's done any movement at all, aside from moving into the standing position. Any beeps?

Another member here had to turn off the temperature sensor, unfortunately they never told us how they did it
