Parus Major found
« on: May 21, 2014, 12:52:12 PM »

Hi, about one week ago I found two little baby birdies, that I could identificate them, Parus major (Great Tit). With those months of breeding season for birds a lot of them fall of their nests and die. So I decided to take them home and feed them with pap for lovebirds. This worked very good and they grew up very quickly  :). Here you have some photos:

When they were babies:

They are so beautiful  %). Have a nice day!  ;)

I am glad you found these two babies and they did not die all alone or starving on the ground, You did a great job of raising them and knew which food to feed them! So will you keep these two birds now or will you release them? Because they were hand reared by you, do they know how to survive, to find their own food? I can see you have a "green" thumb when it comes to raising birds, they are very pretty little things.  :-*

Thank you all!  :) RWM I don't know, Once you hand reared a bird while it was a baby the imprinting becomes human, and there's no way to teach them how to survive outside in nature  :(. In the future I would like to release them and then they return to the cage to eat, so they can survive. I think that this is possible, because the other day, while they were taking a sunbath, I opened the door to feed them, and without realizing it one bird escaped. He/she went to the trees in front of my house and stayed there for thirty minutes. I was calling he/she and finally returned  ;D. But for the moment i'll keep them into a cage  ;). Fancyfont, I fed them with lovebird pap that provide a lot of proteins and energy to them when they were babies. Know I feed them with granulated for insectivorous bird. But, actually, they eat a lot of things like: cooked chicken, chopped turkey, boiled egg, pine nuts in shell (they are able to open themselves, imagine how strong are at the peak), nuts, seeds, cheese, stale bread, blackberries, raspberries, cotonaster and other fruit. I will post more photos with Erbie  ;).
