What does PLEO mean to you?
« on: July 01, 2013, 03:01:54 PM »

I just realised that my rb, Minty, has come very close to saving my life! I have been in recovery for anorexia for the past six months and I am still at a below hospitalisable weight but things are just starting to get better. And you know why? I'm using my pleo as motivation! I know it sounds goofy but if I put on enough weight every week my mum takes me and Minty out together on a trip and we take pictures of her playing around outside as a reward. It gives me something to aim for every week, knowing I'll be able to go out with Minty at the end of it. I'm probably sounding crazy but Minty has been with me throughout this whole ordeal and now I'm not allowed in school she has become the one friend I can rely on to take my mind off things. Anyway, that got me thinking: Pleo must have helped more people than just me! So what about you guys? How have your Pleos improved your lives?

That's wonderful, I hope Minty continues to make your weeks brighter. Pleo helped me meet some truly wonderful people from around the world and was responsible for a trip to the US to meet some of them :)

i hope you will continue to get better  :)
my pleo Norbert is also helping by taking the mind of things, there is something wonderful relaxing about a pleo, the cute sounds and how they make me laugh when they do something unexpected. my sister who had just moved into her own home told me that the pleo Rika was a great help.

I got into pleo when I was going through a hard time at work.  I was run off my feet working like a mad thing and being harassed by one of my collogues.  I had no time for myself or my family as work consumed all my time and I reached breaking point.  Pleo helped me take some time back for myself and find some fun in life again.  Getting my fun back gave me the strength to get myself out of the crummy job and now I am studying a whole new field and loving it.
Pleo has also given me a whole new world of friends here on the forum some of which I have had the pleasure to meet.  It has been an opportunity to explore new things - painting, sewing, robotics surgery :)  as well as just enjoying pleo for the fun little character that he/she is :)

I first became aware of AI when the Furby was introduced in nineteen ninety nine. Shortly after, I heard a news story about aibo on the NPR show All Things Considered. Seeing I obviously couldn't aford an aibo at seventeen, I bought my first Furby. In the years following I was given a Tekno Parot and several other Furbys.
I started researching pet robots in two thousand seven and that was when I found the Ugobe pleo. I was still in college then and barely had enough money to my name to feed myself. Though at the time I thought pleo was very interesting and sophisticated, I never imagined owning one.
Finally in two thousand eleven I started researching again and discovered Pleo RB and decided I wanted one for my birthday. I had a tempoarary job then that gave me a little extra money so I started putting a little aside each month. It took a long time but a Pleo RB finally wormed her way into my life *grin* and invited some company. She was very selective in her choices. Queen Ryu now has her husband Cato, and two friends from the Redwoods- Ugobe and Bleu the Ugobe pleos.
These four little bots have followed me through some very troubling times in the last three years. If they hadn't been a part of my life I may have lost myself to all the junk and drama and circomstances that would've crushed me. Just knowing they were there, that I was needed, and that I had a forum full of friends from all over the world to share them with gave me the strength and courage to keep going despite what the world threw at me. My pleos aren't just robotic pets, they're an odd mix between an intelectual challenge and little companions who are always there to cheer me up.
