Pleo Glue
« on: April 24, 2009, 05:16:28 PM »

Hello, I have a non-working Pleo apart.  If I can get him working, does anyone know what kind of glue or glues were used to glue the skin to itself (around the neck) and the skin to the head around the eyes and nose?

We had discussed super glue (cyanoacrylate).  I have used it successfully on a tail joint, but some types appear to dissolve the skin!  :o

Ugobe hasn't given us a good answer, and now the world may never know. :(

I think seams would be easier to fix then holes. Wish we could find out about patching too!
Does anyone remember the pleo parent that fixed the cable in his pleo's neck and displayed how he did it? I believe he was from Brazil. This was back on Pleoworld right before it the forum was gone.

John

you can ask to a special shop a perfect glue for rubber parts for bricolage and model kits. ;)

My personal opinion, super glue has worked fine for me. I did read others were having problems with using super glue though, so use at your own discretion.

@Fancyfont-I believe it was a female doctor, where or how to contact, IDK. (I thought Europe though....)

Gucci, He did say he was a surgeon. I remember he said it took him about three hours to do but wasn't difficult. He put a stronger cable in his pleos neck and it worked. Perhaps he'll see our posts! :)

Yeah I had honestly thought about repairing Sophie 1's neck like that. But I just didn't think I was able. So I just had to return her, so sad.

I know what you mean! I think only a surgeon or someone with electrical engineering degree would jump right in and try to fix them. My husband would have been able to do that a few years back. I have no doubt that he could have fixed Peeky.

I have been thinking to myself lately, it would be a really good idea to try and contact the people that have further developed Pleo. Such as the gentlemen in Germany (GRIP company) who enhanced the camera and the surgeon we've been mentioning. Somebody really ought to try and contact these people!!

the trick is trying to find out who they are so that we can contact them.  Without the pleo forums, I don't know how to access any of that info.

Perhaps we should contact doll repair shops, rubber companies and electrical engineers to see if it is possible to fix our pleos when needed. The only problem I see in fixing them is that if it may take a few hours to fix them and would be costly for repair and shipping.  I'm sure it was much less expensive for Ugobe to replace a pleo rather then fix one. With the economics the way it is right now, someone who has the qualifications may just be waiting to get some business. Not sure how busy we would keep him or her! Most pleos seem to be ok so far. Only a few have been reported with serious problems.
As far as painting goes when our dinos get really very worn, I'm sure that we can find something to, cosmetically, make them look better. I will eventually, try that green glass chalk (think that's the name of the paint. Peeky doesn't seem to mind to be a little paint free. ;)

I know there is something still active called an aibo clinic. IDK what it is, but maybe they could help us, no?

@Fancy, I've been noticing lately I've been using a little too much when I re-paint her. Try and keep in mind you might want to do as thin a layer as possible when using the paint. Or else, you'll end up like me, a little bit of green paint on your fingers! LOL :-P

@Mweed, the German guy associated with GRIP was the one who redid Pleos camera. He did not specify he would do that for commission (nor did the surgeon), but I think if kindly asked/$$$, these people might help us! (I hope so, I want Sophie a new camera!)

I would be happy if we could get them to repost all their info here on this forum so that we at least have access to the knowledge.
