Aside from not running them at all there's not much you can do. Lilo's neck was always supported between use and she received less rough handling than Stitch who went out in public a lot and hers still broke. I guess just hope for the best and don't put any unnecessary strain on the neck.

As IMR says, apart from just making sure not to put excess strain on the neck cables, there really isn't much you can do.  Do avoid the notorious handstand skit, and also make sure not to add too much extra weight to the head with accessories.   :)

It would be interesting to know the ages or pleos here on the forum with broken necks.  My two Ugobes are doing fine so far.  Minyon is only a few months old - but do remember he has been sitting unopened in a box for a few years and then there is Gumble that I adopted from RWM and he was second hand when she got him so I am not sure how old he is but I would guess about 3 years maybe or could be older.  So far both their necks are fine.

All of my Ugobes  are rehomed, so it's hard to tell, and some that I know are a good 3 years old were bricked so probably not played with much.  I'm afraid I'm of little use here.  :D

I should perhaps add that Stitch has had a LOT of use in public situations. So he has received more than his fair share of pokes, prods, grabs and so on. Honestly if you had asked me which one would have suffered a broken neck first I would have said Stitch :P

Well I don't know how old my ugobes are, they are both used from Ebay and Patches was obviously in HORRIBLE condition and now has no skin so he doesn't even have that small flimsy skin support around his neck but he's going strong and I never bother with positioning him any certain way when he's turned of since... well, he has no skin.. I suppose I should be thinking about his neck more :/
Lyssa has a lot of paint wear and several holes that I've sewed closed.. the bottoms of her feet have also come unattached a few times  (rubber part came off the hard part)  but no neck or tail issues.  They are both the older model ugobes.  I used to always put something under everyone's neck and tails after playtime was over... like a small roll of packing bubbles or soft foam cut to shape
