[Resolved] - Pleo frozen but not dead... Symptoms and solution
« on: January 18, 2009, 03:51:30 AM »

Hi all :)

I'm very sorry my second post is a problem but I really need help as my Pleo (1.1) is not responding as it did...

To give you the context, I bought this used Pleo 5 days ago on Ebay.fr.... The 2 first days was very fine and the beast was growing normally... So the Hacth then the infant and the juvenile steps were ok...
I also tryed the Ugobe personnalities and all worked fine...
The third day began troubles... I plug the fully charged battery, put the switch on and nothing happened  ???
First I recharge the battery than plug it in again -> same no reactions  :'(

This is where I tryed to give life back to my Pleo.
1 - First I Tryed to reflash (1.1) it (windows style) -> impossible -> 1.1 is already in the memory, installer refuse to do the job
2 - I Tryed to insert an SD card with a personnality in -> pleo began the animation but freeze at about 10 second -> cool, it is not dead
3 - I Tryed to flash it (1.1) with the SDcard -> freeze at the 4th chime

It worked again !
1 - Strangely, I could (dunno how it changed) reflash the Pleo to 1.1 (windows style).
2 - The process worked fine and the Pleo gets out from hell
3 - Let it work alone for 30 minutes, no problem, it seems to be reborn for hours of fun :)

And dead again :
1 - As I replugged the battey I fully charge -> same as before -> pleo don't move
2 - Insert and SD with personnality -> do the whole job now ???
3 - Reboot without SD -> no life !

So I installed Dino-Mite (1.0.2) to get some more information :
1 - Windows and Dino-mite recognise the Pleo
2 - I can read the internal memory or the sd card
3 - I can copy files from the internal memory to SDcard and the other way too
4 - I can move all Joints manualy and I can reset the pleo to the box position
5 - I CAN'T delete files from the internal memory (expected to erase all file to apply the 1.1 update and to delete the camera and audio files I put in with Dino)
6 - The battery is ok so the charge works
7 - The SDinstaller (1.1) log is ok and won't flash as it recognize the 1.1 system and don't wan't to reflash
8 - Camera is ok as I can see my keyboard as the Pleo shoots it

Now :
1 - The 1.1 windows installer don't work (1.1 already installed)
2 - The 1.0.2 windows installer don't want to install on windows, a box ask me to have a windows with SP2 or higher -> I'm on SP3, neither the SD installer
3 - Personnalities freeze again (exemple : hollidays -> pleo moves, says HoHoHo and then freezes again

Of course you can undertand how sad I can be... I really love robots and it's my first who can simulates life (robosapien are funny but...), hope someone could help me
-> I send a message to Ugobe and to the guy who solds me the Pleo
-> I uploaded my Pleo config to give you same info I have

Thanks for your help :)

Use the LifeOS1.0.2 SD card installer found on this site to roll-back your pleo to 1.0.2, then reinstall LifeOS1.1 using the SD card installer.

Thanks you very much degers for your help...

I downloaded the file of this forum, put the file on a Fat32 SD disk, plug it into the Pleo -> no reaction
If I do the same in dino-Mite -> I can see it react when I Insert the disk but no flashing is done :

-> Le log give "Calculating Adler32..." then I've got a progression to 100% then it do the same a second time but it seems to stop... And nothing happen

-> I copy the file on a linux system, but I think is not important, as the Sd is FAT32 formatted

-> And the win version still says that I need SP2 or Higher, witch I have ???

Could you please verify that youn battery is fully charged then unzip this file to the SD card and let the upgrade run as long as necessary while DISCONNECTED from DinoMITE.

Good luck!

Well Thanks degers, it seems to work now...

I tryed what you proposed to me several time, but I trust you and retry all the things as you said with your archive. Great you are, it succeed and now the Pleo is alive again... I stay in 1.0.2 for the moment to discover this version but will update asap.

But I still wonder why the pleo get such a lethargy ???
Did you frequently see that ?

Pleos act sleepy after an update.

One thought on the original problem you had.  Since 1.1 does not allow you to delete files from your pleo's flash memory, it is possible that the camera and audio files were taking up too much space to allow the OS to load and run correctly.  Reinstalling 1.1 on top of the 1.1 as you discovered, does not wipe out the flash.  Installing the 1.0.2 over the 1.1 should wipe the flash clean.

I wasn't wondering about the lethargy after the update, as it came back to the first stade, but why I should have done all this stuff to make it reborn...

I'lll connect it in Dino to see if the memory have been erased... Thanks for the tip :)

I recently recived this random email from Pleoworld customer support, they suggest to do the following for sleepy or frozen Pleos'

After you update successfully and you find Pleo going to sleep or freezes please do the following:

NOTE:Put your thumb between Pleo's eyes and index finger under his chin and squeeze his mouth together while holding his button on his belly down for approx 10 seconds.

Then Turn Pleo on then off and hold him upside down by the tail for approx 15 seconds. Pleo should appear aggravated and begin to call out.
For new pleo skits:go to: www.dogsbodynet.com

Hope this helps
