Sorry if i posted this twice, at first it showed an error message
Greetings! I know, this forum is pretty much dead, but i thought i'd share this anyways.

I only found out about pleos the very end of last year, and not much later i bought an RB myself that i named Kiwi.
Within a month of use, cables started to break, both in the neck and tail. :( With not much information about repairs online and a broken pleo, i wasn't exactly sure what i was getting myself into, but i decided to repair it.

There's gonna be a lot of images of Kiwi's insides, so take a look.  P:o

Skin removed. Two vertebrae were broken, one in the tail and one in the neck.
I fixed those by melting them back together using a soldering iron, melting a steel cable around the middle into the plastic and covering it in epoxy adhesive. This is much stronger than printing new ones.

The insides of the front with the entire neck and head removed. They really filled these to the brim with electronics, there's not much space to work with unless removing parts from the body.

As you can see, that cable has snapped and needs to be replaced.

Kiwi's head

Next up is the tail. the back was a little more confusing to open. There were a couple of screws well hidden under the touch sensor. Other than that it's much easier to rethread than the front.

Up/down gearbox with replaced steel cable.

The skin is very stretchy, so it was still possible to take it off and get it back on. There's only some minor damage. Glued the skin back on at the battery bay and neck.

There's only a small tear at the battery bay, but other than that it looks about the same.

here are the results after a couple of weeks of messing around with kiwi.  P:)

As of right now the up/down tail cable has snapped, and i'll still have to figure out why exactly that is.
Bought new steel cables, but it'll take a month before it arrives. So i won't be working on it for some time.

It took me way too long to make this post, i'm not used to ancient websites.

I was wondering if it were possible to name the original pleo and have pleo respond to being called by the name.
And I was also wondering about what the ID card does. Is it the same as with pleo rb?
I couldn't find much information about the original pleo ID card and giving names that pleo could respond to.

Thank you so much!

Maybe try the POP OS in the download section - it could be corrupted LifeOS - at least of he is making some noise/movement it is not the dreaded internal fuse!

Update: I kept messing with the battery, pleo button, and USB most of the day. just turning him on and off every once in a while with nothing but the occasional "click/pop" sound that happens when a pleo's voice box turns on. however as he was switched on for an hour, I decided to pull his battery out as he was switched on, and he randomly turned his head as I pulled the battery out. scared the crap out of me but good to see yet another small movement from him!

update: i plugged in a usb into him and plugged it into my PC just to see what would happen. I put a fully charged battery into him and turned him on. my PC made a sound indicating it detected something was plugged in. i turn pleo off and my PC makes a noise indicating it disconnected. Turned it back on, and PC sound indicated its connected. I turn it on and off a couple of times, and the pleo randomly bends his torso to the right. i don't have any software for him yet because I don't know what to do, but seeing him move a little bit from simply plugging him into my PC is already a good sign to me, because now I know that he is detecting the battery and only semi-bricked.  ;D

I bought a ugobe pleo off of eBay, and it doesn't turn on. I put a working battery in and it doesn't move or make a noise. I think I heard the speaker turn on the sound thing, but that only happened once and never again, I'm not sure if that actually was the voice box I heard. Anyways, I don't know where to start on trying to fix this pleo. I'm not sure how to detect what's the problem with it and how to fix it. Can anyone help me or point me to some threads that fixed other user's bricked pleo? Any help is deeply appreciated, I would love to give this baby a second chance at life. I'm really happy with receiving this pleo and I'm excited to get him up and running, but I don't know where to start as I have no knowledge of old technology/programming/robotics.

I emailed them as well to ask if they are still selling RBs, but their response was simply, "We are out of stock," and they didn't answer if they still make some or not.

It's hard to say because the pleo world domain is still active and I believe you can even add accessories to your cart. I did email them earlier this year asking if accessories were still available for purchase but I never got a reply back. I think it's safe to assume that the website is still online but there is no activity let alone the option to purchase something.

Hi,

I successfully installed Dino-MITE but the solution was not very intuitive !

The command "regsvr32 \windows\system32\COMDLG32.OCX" doesn't work in the standard "command prompt".
I need to launch the command prompt as an administrator and then the command was succesfull...

After that, the install of Dino-MITE was ok :)
