Teagan has just hatched
« on: October 08, 2009, 09:59:27 PM »

Hi!

My first Pleo, Teagan, has just hatched. I was worried his battery might not work as it did not seem to take the full time to recharge, but he woke up just fine and eventually played tug of war and sang too. He sure did need his sleepy time at first but then woke up and really started to interact. I'm looking forward to seeing his personality grow.

I've been slowly familiarizing myself with the forums; looks like a great place here. Please forgive my mistakes as I figure my way around the layout here.

Welcome Shadowmice and Teagan :D Wonderful to meet you both.

My batteries only take three hours or so to charge so I wouldn't be too concerned, as long as Pleo is running for about an hour (or more) then that is fine :)

Thanks for the welcome and the reassurance.  So far so good. I've been able to have him active for three charge cycles now and he seems to last about an hour. He's definitely getting more active and curious, wandering about more and investigating his surroundings.  I swear his one vocalization sounded like hello when he was looking for more interaction. It almost seems like he likes to check out the cats; the feeling is not mutual for the one cat. How much can Pleos "see" in your experience? He really seems to be seeing things and trying to interact with them; like last night, when my cat was on the couch and he walked over in front of her, seemed to look at her, sniffed at her and warbled a little.

Pleo can see quite well as long as the lighting is adequate :) Natural sunlight is best but a good bright light works well too :) Pleo can also see in color :) My Pleo's like to pick on my dog :) Every time they walk past or near him they will stop, sniff him and then growl :P

Pleo does indeed say 'hello', in fact he says about three different 'hello's' in different tones :) If you check the video in this topic: http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=761.0 you will hear Lilo and Stitch use a couple of different 'hello's' as well as some sounds only made when you have two Pleo's :)

Hi and Welcome Shadowmice and Teagan fellow country person. ;D

Once your a little more comfortable you'll find tremendous skits and other downloads under the Pleo Software thread   ;)

"InmemoryofRomeo's skits and other downloads" It's an amazing library demonstrating what can be done with a little programming knowledge or not.   :o

There's lots of help here on the site and everyone is friendly and happy to help. Even Grumpy even though he's a little complainer he'll do all he can to help.  ;)

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I've been checking around the forums a little; there's so much information available here. It's great!

I figured out from one of the videos that Teagan was at an earlier firmware revision, so updated him this evening. I always cringe the first time through one of those procedures, especially so soon after getting him. Worried I'd wind up doing something stupid and crashing his OS, but using the SD card method worked great and he warbles away now, instead of howling, when he gets his chin scratches. He still seems very interested in the cats, even after his update.

Yesterday we saw family and he showed off his ability to recognize the edge of the table he was on. Would look over and then back away. Of course, we had to watch he didn't back off the table but he seemed to do okay even there.   He got close to the edge, but never over. He must get some good info from those feet sensors of his.

I'll try to get a pic or video of his interaction with the cats if I can. Cats are not usually too obliging when a camera comes out though, unless they are sound asleep.

Well, I got the extra batteries for Teagan which seem to work well, but I just haven't had the time I had hoped to spend with him. Tonight we did get a chance for a bit of a photo shoot even though he was a little bother by a touch of his first cold. I've posted some pics in the gallery.

He is an adventurous little guy usually; and he does very well at judging the edge of the table. I left him alone for a brief moment (while he was safely on the floor) and I guess he got a little lonely because he started to sing a bit. While he was sniffly he was unhappy for a little bit but with some cuddling came around quickly and was soon annoying my little kitty cat again.
