O.K., truth be told, the whole last month of comic strips was building up to this . . .



With the demise of Ugobe, and a new owner in town, the idea of using Caleb Chung's image for Dr. Mel doesn't make as much sense as it once did.  SO, the idea came about to use some other image for the Dr. Mel character.   Ergo, the transmorgifier!  Dr. Mel, in his fight with Grumpy fired the transmorgifier ray gun inside the trash can, blowing up the gun, and transforming himself into . . . .

And that's where you come in.

For the next month, we leave the gang staring in shock and awe at the transformed Dr. Mel and we go off an a whole new adventure with Bob.  At the end of the month, we'll rejoin the gang as they meet the newly transformed Dr. Mel. and we pick up the story there.  So, while Bob is off on a summer adventure, we get to have a contest!

This is your chance to re-design the world's most inept super-villain.    Should he be a wombat?  Western sea-gull?  Or a pleo himself!  How about a penguin?  Or a dragon?  Or an allosaurus . . .  Nah!!

The one hard-and-fast rule is, he must keep the rainbow afro.  Other than that, things are pretty open.  But here are a few guidelines to coming up with what you think Dr. Mel should be:

  • No copyrighted characters.  So, no, he can't be a pokemon, or Bob Denver.  We don't want this place shut down by a lawsuit.
  • No cartoon character(unless you can provide some very good justification (or drawings). . .  Pleos are real, and they look real.  A cartoon figure would seem out-of-place in the strip (unless that's you're intent).
  • Ideally whatever you come up with, I should be able to find some physical representation that I can take pictures of as Dr. Mel

All right.  Here's what you need to do.  Make a post here with your suggestion of what Dr. Mel has been transformed into . . .  AND reasons you think this would make a good Dr. Mel.  Post images if you can, and be prepared to answer any questions or rebuttals to your idea! (Now, no being mean.  When someone posts an idea, feel free to query them on it, but no tearing them or their idea down.

In two weeks, (mid August) I'll pick the best suggestions and we'll go to round two.  No new ideas, but a week of more discussions on these top picks, and everyone gets to vote on their favorite.

Then, the final week I'll post the finalists, and present them to a panel of judges, as a few more questions, and then we'll all meet the new Dr. Mel in the comic strip!

Sound like fun?  Well, get busy coming up with your most ridiculous and crazy ideas!

Thought about D-Rex.  Seemed like a natural choice.  But it is a copyrighted product, and I'm not sure a company like Mattel would give me the rights to use it.

So, what are your reasons for thinking a koala would make a good Dr. Mel?

Lol there is no good reason :P, a cute cuddly super villain seems like a bit of an oxymoron ;D It just made me laugh so I posted it :P

I do think it would be nice to bring Dr. Mel down the the Pleo level a bit though, something not too fast, smallish... but not another Pleo, that's just too much I think...

No, Mel as a Pleo whodint work, because his mission in life is to destroy all Pleos, so if he was a Pleo himself, whodunit he hafto destroy himself? ??? :o

No, Mel as a Pleo wouldn't work, because his mission in life is to destroy all Pleos, so if he was a Pleo himself, wouldn't he have to destroy himself? ??? :o

But that could make for a great internal conflict!

Com'on peoples :) You must have some ideas... any ideas... The future of Weedovia as we know it is at stake :o

I'll post some more pics as soon as it warms up enough here for me to venture into my bedroom and access my proper mouse :P Can't do anything useful with this laptop mouse :P Brr hurry up and warm up fire ;)

Maybe a goanna Mel... Melinda Mel (hehe my sister would kill me :P)...

I hesitate to throw out ideas, because I want to see what you all can come up with, but one suggestion was to leave Dr. Mel as a person, perhaps a more pleo-sized person, and get someone from the forum to play the role.  I'm sure degers owns a lab coat . . .    Could you picture 49er in a rainbow wig?  Or perhaps a more youthful Dr. Mel . . .  I'm sure Allo or Bumblebee has an "evil" side . .. .   With 400+ members, I'm sure we could find a Dr. Mel!

O.K., it ain't no ferocious iguana like Melinda, but this is the stuffed gecko that used to sit in the back window of my car (prior to the accident a couple of weeks ago) . . .

and because this is from a Transmogrifier gun explosion, this is what hapand in the argument/Transmogrifier gun shoot out in the Calvin and Hobbes with his Transmogrifier gun. The creatures names will be done in Bold so they stick out. ;) take them as suggestions if you want, or just showing you what hapand with them. ;)

Calvin wants to be a Pterodactyl, but Hobbes turned him into a Chicken.(he took that well. ;)) then Hobbes turned him into a Tiny Pterodactyl, so he turned Hobbes into a Duck, then Hobbes turned Calvin into a Pig so he turned Hobbes into a Chimp, so Hobbes turned him into a Flower, so Calvin turned Hobbes into a Crocodile, so he turned Calvin into an Armadillo. Much Later... Calvin was an Owl and Hobbes was some kind of monster thing. then Calvin turned Hobbes back to normile and the Transmogrifier gun ran out of power and it took a day for it to ware of of Calvin.

Nah, the gecko was a victim in the accident.  The other driver did not have insurance though.  I guess he should have spoken to that geico gecko . . .

Ok - I haven't had a chance to find a picture.  But if you're still looking for ideas.  How about a troll.  They're pleo size.  Their little legs shouldn't move much faster than pleo. And they're used to really ugly hair :D

That's a Troll?!? ???    I guess I was thinking Lord of the rings type Cave Troll, not one of those little things. ???  and hay he already has the Mel wig. (it just needs a bit of modifying.)
