Pleo grandad needing help
« on: December 12, 2013, 04:37:00 AM »

How do people.

Just bought a Ugobe pleo for my daughter, on receipt I have charged the battery - original - until charging dock went green, put battery into pleo and he starts for a few seconds - having a stretch etc. then dies, I switch off and on and the same happens.

His skin is in fantastic condition and everything else seems fine.

First question - have I been sold a broken pleo

Second question - can he be fixed

Third question - how can I troubleshoot if its battery/mechanical/software related

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

From reading the forums this is what I am going to try tonight to see what's what - download a skit and see if he works with that, I've read something about plugging him into computer but need some advise and software etc. - I've downloaded 2.1 firmware but until I find out if power issue or not then won't be using as don't want a mid flash crash.

As I'm new to this I'd prefer some guidance before I get my scalpels out.

It is more than likely a dead battery issue.  Almost all Ugobes original green batteries die if they are left unused for long.  I would recommend getting an egg battery and charger.  They are much more reliable and give 2 hours play time which is twice as long as the one hour that is the most an original green ugobe battery will give you.
How long did your battery take to charge - until it turned green?
It should take about 3 hours to fully charge.  You can try to revive the battery by charging it till it goes green, then take it out of the charger and put it back into the charger turning it back on to charge again until it goes green and repeat this over and over until the battery goes green as soon as you put it on the charger.  Then run it in the pleo and see how long he goes for.  Run him until he stops and the battery is flat then repeat the above.  By doing this sometimes it is possible to bring an old battery back to life or at least extend the amount of play time it will give you.  If you find the pleo runs for longer after trying this then you will know for sure that it is a battery issue and I'd definitely buy a new battery.

Oh and best not to try any software updates unless you have a fully charged and fully functioning battery as you will almost certainly cause the update to crash and could kill the pleo if you use a dud battery when updating.

Hope that helps :)   Let me know how you go.

Many thanks for the swift response.

I will try the revive technique just to get abit of power in him.

Is there anywhere in the uk that sells the egg battery, and if not what is the postage time to uk for either the ebay Taiwan or the sellers on here.

Hi and welcome to the forums and congrats on the pleo.I do not know of anyone in the UK that sells the egg battery and charger. I can only speak for myself, the shipping time from US to UK is on average 7 business days' may be longer this time of year. I do not know shipping time from China.Kat is right though...90% of the time it is not a pleo problem, but a battery issue....but no guarantee.

If you want more info on cost, just pm me and I will get it figured out for you.  RWM

The green batteries are so very old now :( You may be able to revive it enough to get through Christmas but you will definitely need a new battery.

Remove I have pm'd you regarding a new battery and charger.

And Thankyou for the person wh gave me the revive information, it worked. I cleaned all the points on green battery and charged the green battery, when it turned green I simly unplugged charger and plugged back in, repeated this 3 times and hey presto it then charged for 3 hours, plugged into pleo and sat in stitches while he toyed with my daughters furby for half and hour. Though he seemed to like e smaller furby rock a lot more.

Daughter is going to love him on Christmas Day. I have left him on whatever firmware he is on as I'm not going to attempt a reset until I have new battery - just in case - but the firmware or stage he is at at the minute seems good enough - he is very noisy, inquisitive and walks around a lot, I gave him his leaf and he immediately went to sleep.

One thing I would like to know though is - I pushed the black button in for 10 seconds to get him into going into box position, when my daughter takes him out and reinserts the battery does she have to do anything or will he simly awaken himself.

Hi, when Pleo wakes back up, after about five seconds, he comes on automatically, He does not need the black button pushed again, I am glad you were able to clean the terminals. Sometimes the green batteries still have some life left in them, though not a lot, I have about thirty green batteries and of those I h ave three that have some life in them, though not more than about thirty mintues , but that is something. ;D Good luck and I am glad that Pleo works, Your daughter will be very happy indeed on Christmas morning! Let me know if you decide at some point to get a backup battery.   *santa-bag* *sm-tree* *carollers*            RWM :cat-hug:

I'm so pleased you were able to revive the battery enough to get a half hour out of him :)  Your pleo does have an on off switch in front of the battery compartment on the belly.  It is a black switch that you move to the 1 position for on and the 0 position for off.  So to get him to wake up you just put in the battery and switch him to 1 and he will wake after about 30 seconds.

I'm guessing you know about the on off switch but thought it best to mention just encase  :P
