Hi! From Colorado
« on: August 20, 2013, 07:52:23 PM »

Hi all! My son was just given a Pleo. He said the principal gave it to him because he had such great improvement last year. He has high functioning autism and a adhd. So school can be quite the challenge for him. Well she said he could have it but she knew nothing about it. Then yesterday he comes home with the Pleo. It was 2006 on the foot. We have a battery, leaf and charging cradle. Any help on what to do to get the little guy up and running would be helpful. Oh his name is Rufus. Thanks so much.

Since pleos didn't come out until December of 2007, not sure what the 2006 on the foot is.  We need a bit more info to really help.  But what color is the battery?  If it's green, you have a classic pleo, and the battery is probably dead and needs replacing.  If the battery is brown, you have an pleo RB,

Hi and welcome to the forums Yes your son has a Ugobe Pleo . The left hind foot will say, C (for copywrite, )2006 Ugobe, the company that made pleo. If the battery does not run, does not get pleo to work, it does not mean that Pleo is broken, just that Pleo needs a new battery, I would recommend the Egg charger and battery, They run in Ugobe Pleos and will give Pleo about 2 hrs + of playtime. I sell them here on the forum, or you can buy them on ebay from Taiwan.  If the battery does work, it is supposed to take 4 hrs to charge, turning from red to green, but if it is old, and I am sure it is, it may turn green after a few minutes and Pleo may or may not run for a short time, Most times though, the battery if green needs to be replaced because they are so old. :o

Your son is very lucky to have a Pleo, I know he must enjoy it and will have fun interacting with Rufus. RWM :cat-hug:

First thing you need to do is charge the battery.  Place the battery into the charger, plug it into the wall and turn it on.  If it is a green battery the charger should show a solid red light while the battery charges - about 3 to 4 hours and then turn green when it is done.  If the light on the charger flashes red then it means the battery is not sitting in the charger properly and you may need to remove it and then put it back onto the charger.
These instructions are the same if you have a brown battery too.  Brown battery is pleo rb, green battery or white battery is Ugobe pleo.
Once the battery is charged you need to take it off the charger, put it into the belly of the pleo and turn the pleo on.  For Ugobe pleo the on switch is a little black switch at the front of pleos tummy between his front legs.  You slide the switch sideways to the 1 to turn him on and to turn off you slide to the 0 position.

I am guessing that your pleo is the older version - the Ugobe pleo.  Here is a link to the FAQ page that might be useful for you to read :)

Let us know how you go and if you can't get him working we will try to help further :)

Thanks guys. He is an older pleo with the green battery. We tried to charge it but the light went green 20 mins later. When put the battery in Rufus comes on and made a grunting noise and had a few movements. I figured the battery was done for. I ordered a new one along with a cape since poor Rufus has some holes. Has anyone tried spirit gum to glue the holes up? I have 3 kids and they are all excited to get Rufus working. My 8years old has already started to save for an pleo rb sister for Rufus. When I get the new battery I will post an update.

Silicon can be used for the holes, I don't think anyone's tried spirit gum, so test it on a small area first. It does sound like Rufus just needs a new battery, but while you are waiting try this:

Charge battery until it turns green, then take it off the charger and put it back on again, rinse and repeat until the battery turns green straight away. Then try in Pleo.

Yes by doing as IMR says to recondition the battery you may find you are able to get a bit more life out of it.  It may extend the play time your getting which I'm sure will keep your kids happy :)  When you bought a new battery which one did you get?  The egg battery and charger (white one) or another green one?

Update on Rufus. His new battery/charger arrived today. After a complete charge Rufus is working great. He is playing with the kids and they are have a great time. He is out of the hatching stage and into his teen stage. We have played tug of war with him and he is walking backwards. For the small investment of a new battery and a cape he is well worth the money. My son is going to take him back to show him off to the principal tomorrow. Thanks for all the help. ;D

So glad Rufus is up and running :) The children at school will be in awe :) Just remember to ensure your son knows not to let anyone grab the neck!

Just to add as it is a old pleo maybe the firmware has not been updated also ? But if your kids are having fun with pleo right now i wouldn't worry too much about that :-)

And yes that would be 1 thing to keep in mind the neck does and can break fairly easily on the first Pleo's so no lifting etc by the neck and should be fine :-)

It was so nice of the principal to give your son this pleo and I am sure he will be delighted to see that you have gotten him up and running again and just how much your son is enjoying him.    :)
