New here, some pleo questions!
« on: March 05, 2013, 07:08:31 PM »

P:) Honk! Hi! Im PleoAibo29, and I have a few questions to get myself started.
If I got a Pleo, should I get an RB or Ugobe? I origionally wanted and Aibo, but with the expense Its not going to happen. I am more interested In an autonomous robot that will enjoy itself and explore on its own.
Are pleos discontinued? Just wanted to double-check.  P:D
Thanks,
PleoAibo29 :)
EDIT: I noticed I put this in the wrong place, can a mod move it?
Thanks from the Starship Enterprise. (Star date 123.05)

Pleos are not discontinued. i am pleased to inform you. The pleoworld website charges $520 includind shipping, but some other sites charge less. The sites i found (with help.) are robopolis, frontgate, and accessory jack. Also, check ebay often. You might find an rb for cheap. The ugobes can be from 80 to 300 dollars.

You may want to check a deal in the deal topic for cheaper price.

Don't forget to take a look on "Merlin Edition", But it's just an Ugobe upgrade. I'm not sure current 2009 version from Innvo is more advance or not.

If you are planning to do some scripting, maybe Ugobe is more suit.

Hello and welcome.

As far as I know, the Merlin edition is pretty much the same as the Innvo 2009 Pleo, which had a few minor hardware modifications but were to all intents and purposes the same as the Ugobe.

In my view, the original Pleos are more autonomous and happy to wander far and wide.  The RBs have more features and tricks, but require more input from you.

pleos seem more playful than rb's, and are almost aways happy. pleos are cheaper, and seem much more mobile. they are much less worrysome, as they do not require to be fed. ugobe pleos are much better as a first time pleo.

Sorry for the double post. Zetathix, you said ugobes are good for scripting? I am interested in making skits and uploading personalities. Is that right?

If you are planing on some pleo programing then you might find the Ugobe pleo easier to work with than the Pleo rb.  You can hook a ugobe pleo up to a computer using a USB cable and can still plug in his battery and turn him on at the same time.  The pleo rb can't do this as they have put the usb slot inside his battery compartment so there is currently no way to power up a pleo rb that is hooked up to a computer and without power the computer wont even know he is there.  So unless you are good at rigging up power supplies then I would suggest the Ugobe for programing.
