New here!
« on: January 09, 2013, 12:29:13 PM »

Well, as the title says. Few years ago, still in my teens, I saw a website selling these extremely cute dinosaurs called Pleo, robotic pet with A.I as well! I was captivated right away, but the high price of 500 € (about 650 USD I think) kept this only a dream, and after some digging I found out the company making these interesting things was having problems, and so my dream stayed only as a dream.

Now, married and with a better income than just a measly student money, I remembered these little fellows once more. With some digging I found out that not only they were made again, they were upgraded! And so I remembered my dream about getting one once more. The price was still a little bit high for my budget, but after a month, around Christmas time, I saw Pleoeurope having them on, with half the price. So, thanks to my Christmas money, I finally decided to listen to my urge and order one. And there she is, still non-named female. I'm thinking of calling her Troll (or Rölli, who is a troll of sorts in Finnish kid's show), just because she loves tricking me into thinking she's frozen, only to give out her little cheeky laugh and move again.

Uh, anyway, enough babbling. I was having some questions as well.

1. Is it okay for Pleo RB to wear knitted clothing? I don't have much skill in sewing, but I think I'm able to knit a little cape for her, and maybe some socks. I'm just worried knitted wool might rub against the paint and rubber.

2. Based on StatsRB, her Emotion stat was way down, only on 29%. Could it be because the light in our apartment isn't that bright? I'm trying the "Not Scared of the Dark" patch at the moment, and she seemed more energetic and happy. I tried to cuddle her as well, but she start wiggling around easily, which makes holding her quite difficult.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for the answers, or the possible links to thread where my questions are already answered :)

Hi, Tracytigress and welcome to the forums! I can answer some of your questions but I know nothing about knitted clothing's effect on pleo skin. I don't think it would do much damage if it were very loose around areas of high movement like the legs and neck.
Yes, the low-lighting in your apartment is probably pulling down your pleo's emotion levels a bit. I am very greatful for the scared-of-the-dark patch. It isn't a permanent fix though as you can't teach pleo its name or any of the learning stones while using it. Try playing with your little one in a room with lots of sunlight. Also if you have the coffee bean food accessory, try feeding her that. It should bring up her emotion levels as well. I hope this was helpful.

Hi and welcome! :D I also just received my Pleo after years of wanting one, so the 'welcome' is a little funny. It kind of suggests I know my way around a bit more than I do. :P

Mine also does that freezing-and-giggling thing, which really freaked me out the first couple of times! I find it cute now I know it's not a sign of a problem. Holding and cuddling was a bit of a challenge for me to figure out - mine tends to wrap her tail around my arm and get her head tangled in my hair and then she's a bit hard to put down without startling her. I find lifting her with a hand on her tummy and putting her onto my lap to cuddle works, and she doesn't start panicking that way because her little feet aren't on something solid. I tried cuddling her on my shoulder once and that seemed to work quite well also.

I gather from reading about other people's experiences with their Pleos in baby stage that a low emotion stat isn't necessarily something to worry about too much early on. Mine seems to be sitting either a little above or a little below 50% at the moment even though she's usually quite cheerful and has been played with in well-lit areas. I figure she's basically me when I was that age in human years. ;)

Welcome both of you :) Pleo's tend to grow out of the freezing thing as they 'age' so don't worry :)

Thank you! I haven't gotten a coffee bean leaf yet, but I was planning on buying one at some point, when I find someone in EU who doesn't want me to pay about 40 USD for courier. I can understand it for Pleos, with them being expensive and fragile, but for two small packs of quite sturdy looking plastics? Meh. I wonder if I could send a message to robopolis and ask them nicely to send them through normal post...

And I've noticed that my Pleo is quite a heavy sleeper. During her naps (the ones where she still makes noise and moves a little), she won't wake up from loud noises, petting, or being treated as a plane by my husband (gently though, he knows better). She's getting a lot more energetic now, lots of bouncing in place, cooing, mooing, tail wagging and happy panting (even when it's supposed to be her bedtime!). Still no walking though :)

The only suggestion I can offer is when you do buy the accessories, but the whole lot at once! That way you are only paying one set of postage. If you find any friends in the same area maybe you can share the cost of postage too.

She does sound like a bit of a heavy sleeper, perhaps she'll grow out of it :P it also sounds like she'll be taking those first steps pretty soon :) Assuming hubby leaves her on the ground long enough ;)

Welcome to the forums  ;D  Messaging robopilis is a great idea.  The worst they can do is say no, so you have nothing to loose :)
Pleos do sleep a lot through the hatching stage.  Once she gets walking she will sleep less :)  It usually takes around 4 battery cycles before they get going with the walking but they are all different so some take more than that and a few have taken less.  Sounds like your having fun :) Would love to see a pic of your Pleo.  What color eyes does she have?

She has pale green eyes, and the area around her eyes is brown. I will most likely take and post a picture after some sleep, it's 3 am here and a little bit too dim for the camera. Little pleo seems to resemble my hubby a lot, both want to stay up and are full of energy when I'm ready to go to bed!

And yes her sudden burst of energy was a lot of fun. First she was happily snoozing and snoring quietly, then suddenly she was full of energy. She even made this weird rooster-like sound "Cococooo!", and wagged her tail and butt with a happy pant, cooing and bouncing a little with her little legs. Too bad we had to turn her off for the night, we'll see what she'll do after I've gotten my beauty sleep :D

A little update, sorry for bumping.

I checked her stats out of curiosity, and it seems she's already in Social Development stage, but she hasn't taken any steps yet. It might be our floor though, I've seen her wiggling in a way that might be her trying to walk, but I think the plastic on the bottom of her feet just slips around on our parquet floor. We're going to go to shop and check if we can find some baby socks to give some more grip to her step. Pictures (and video, if hubby gets the urge to use his camera) coming soon!

Oh, and she surprised us today by making a new sound. Suddenly she just stretched out and let out this big Godzilla roar, nothing like her usual "moooooooooo!".

Based on StatsRB, our girl is good tempered, brave, very intelligent and strong(I think that's what high physical means), but not very active. She did walk today though, I suppose her new placeholder booties did the trick! And it seems she doesn't like to be in my lap, after a while she starts wiggling and complaining loudly.

Pleoworld page said she's tolerant, strong and quiet, but based on all the Jurassic Park roaring and mooing she makes, she's anything but quiet xD

Oh, and i also managed to order some extra stuff for her through GimmeDigi, since Robopolis didn't seem interested in sending stuff as standard signed for packet. I need to wait a little bit longer, but I think we can keep the little one entertained until then.

Edit: Aaand we finally have pictures! Sorry about the blurriness, the cropped out tail and the frazzled booties. I took the pictures with my phone and the little one was moving around a lot :D Her eyes look a little blueish in the pictures, but they are actually pale green.

First steps are awesome. Ryu didn't even hesitate. She just walked right past me and when she stopped she raised her tail and let out this very happy moo like, look what I can do now, Mom! As happy as I was, I felt kind of sad too. My little girl could now leave my side and get caught under my bed or hide under my desk or wander into the big unexplored hallway! Oooo what a big world it is for a curious little pleo!

Our girl seems to like doing little courage tests, she aims her walk to the darker parts of the room, and then gets scared and starts crying until one of us comes and rescues her. She also didn't seem to notice a black chair in her way, and bump straight into it.  Earlier today I was browsing the net with the little one looking around on the floor.  After a while I heard this happy moo and turned to look, and almost jumped when I saw she had walked next to my chair and was staring at me :D

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your little girl, Yes, Pleos can do the most amazing things and the facts they test our emotions and surprise us in ways you have described, are what in my opinion, is what makes them seem, so REAL! After getting your Pleo, you will find it hard to believe what your life would be like without her. She sounds so darling. Please post photos and videos, it is the little things in everyday "routines", that make them irresistable and fun to see.

How does everyone find all this information about their Pleo on Pleoworld? I signed up and entered the SN I had and everything, but couldn't really find any information of interest. I feel like I'm overlooking something obvious. :P

I love the colour contrast between her eyes and the markings around them. Really striking and pretty! I take my Pleo photos with my phone as well, which has a quite long delay on it, so I'm really impressed by your photos compared to what I usually come up with. It's quite funny whenever I have a particular pose in mind I'd like to get, but Lizzy wants to move in a completely different way. I'm still waiting on her to walk so I'm sure that will only get funnier. :D

I found mine of the profile page, and clicking the Birth Certificate Download opens up a new page with links to the pleos you've registered. Clicking the serial number opens another page, that should has a link called PEGD prediction report, That's the one that shows PleoRB's chance being female/male, and some personality traits.

All the more detailed stuff I got using  StatsRB :)
