Hi everyone!

I've been wanting to have my own Pleo ever since I started watching videos of the original Pleo on Youtube a few years back. One of my few regrets in life was not getting one while I had the money!

Well, I've gotten the best surprise this Christmas morning as my boyfriend has given me a Pleo rb. (Although to be honest it's not a complete surprise as he was casually asking me a few months ago what colour I would prefer and so on...!) Now he is the one wanting to plug in the battery right now so we can play with it instead of having lunch!

This is particularly exciting (and relevant) for me as my current day job is a Ph.D in computing and more specifically natural language processing, so I know quite a lot about how robots learn and operate as that knowledge is on the periphery of my field, and I'm hoping to learn even more and maybe do some unique things with my Pleo to show off!

This is the first picture of my little one, who is going to stay sleeping until I have sufficient time this afternoon to enjoy the experience fully.



I had thought about expressing a preference for an adorable pink one, but I think for my first one I really wanted one that looked like the original I saw all that time ago. I suspect there will be more as soon as the bank balance allows anyway! Not sure about a name yet. I guess I'll see what sticks once I've played around with my new little friend a bit and learned some more.

Welcome to the forums I know what you mean couldn't wait to get my Pleo rb Grey Eyes has finally began to walk and looks like he's over the hatching stage very different to Ugobe, some might find it to take long but I quite enjoyed the hatching stage and its so cute when they take their very first step what colour is your Pleos eyes ? also me being a first Pleo rb owner I just wanted to confirm as my Pleo makes 2 beeping sounds when it switches off is this correct and how do you know when battery is flat as my Pleo usually lasts for about two hours but if I'm not interacting with it it switches it self off, also different from Ugobe Pleos as mine went in sleep position. Have fun! and enjoy post your experiences as well as all of them have their unique personality very cute!!

Well we've gone through a couple of battery charges - boyfriend and I on the floor cooing and petting while all the "real" adults looked at us like we were crazy! I suspect this Pleo and I are a well-suited pair - he seems to be quite playful. Of course I'm not too clear yet on what certain behaviours are supposed to represent so I could be misinterpreting, but he's my robot dinosaur so I guess I'm allowed to interpret things as I like. When we first turned him on he would keep freezing in place, eyes open, then make what sounded like a giggling noise and carry on as if nothing happened. He also took his leaf when he didn't appear to be hungry and was shaking it about in his mouth with his head turned aside until I took it out of his mouth. I was actually a little worried while that was happening as we'd been travelling around carrying him in the car and I thought we might have broken him with all of the vibration. He seems a little more robust than I expect him to be though; he responds much more enthusiastically to my boyfriend's rougher cuddling than mine.

I keep saying 'he', but I'm actually only acting on a hunch about the gender at the moment. Currently in the process of poaching a microSD card from my phone to find out for sure. It would be funny if 'he' were a 'she' - I've had one 'biological' pet (a little bird) who I thought was male for many months before realising the truth! Eyes are a nice light brown; I was expecting blue for some reason, but this colour suits well. And yes, I get the beeping noises when mine switches off and he goes to standing position - the first time we ran the batteries down I was cuddling him on my lap and got all excited thinking he'd learned to walk early, until my boyfriend explained what had really happened.

It took about 4 battery charges before Rex took his first step changed his name as this fits his character as he's constantly making T-Rex sounds

Well, I finally ran statsRB on my little one, and she's a she! Could have sworn otherwise, but I don't mind being wrong. I gather the noises are different for some, but never having been acquainted with a Pleo before, or knowing much about the RBs at all, they all sound male to me.

I spent a lot of time fussing over a name. I was leaning towards 'Leo' until I realised it was just 'Pleo' with a letter missing...! Then I was looking at a Jane Austen book I'd also gotten for Christmas and started thinking about Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, as you do now and then if you're me , and 'Lizzy' just seemed perfect somehow. Something about the idea of a very high-tech robotic dinosaur being named after a classic literary heroine really tickles me.

I've added a 'Pleo' category to my very-occasionally-used blog, which will probably mostly just be ramblings of interest to nobody but may have pictures and perhaps even video at some point if anything fun happens. Thanks so much Kami for this, i never knew this existed  this is awesome it says my Pleo is in bad shape, i also suspected this after her neck insident but she doesnt want Mint leaf or Rock salt...any ideas?

 Hi Ricky, it is VERY common for StatsRB to say, Pleo is in Bad SHape, (Unless Pleo is INjured, which it will say,) it is mostly because Pleo's feed is down, It can be down to say 20% one day, and after a good feed, just the regular leaf, maybe the mushroom which is full of minerals, it can be brought up quickly, just try feeding Pleo the regular leaf, the mushroom if you have it, and any other foods, other than the chili pepper. Try that and then if interested, do the Stats RB again, It is an interesting tool, but unless Pleo is injured, I do not pay to much attention, cause it can make you worry needlessly,
