HELP...Chester has a leg problem...
« on: November 02, 2012, 07:31:32 PM »

Looks like out of three Pleo Rb, I have only one with no known problem, Baby Ruth has had a bad "peg "leg for about a year now and I am getting enough courage to open her up to see what can be done, ( If I had the money I would just send her to Kat for example to fix her.. postage though is too much comming and going back.........mayby I will win the lottery.LOL. Anyway, also Chester the newest edition to the family and the boy Rb has a leg problem also, I watched the video of the original Kermy that Kat had and also of Sparky who had the leg problem and went to Kat to be fixed. I am thinking that Chester has a very similiar if not the same problem,

I can not remember precisely if he had this from day one, but he has had it for quite awhile. It is his front leg, left I think. From the time I turn him on, it starts clacking and clicking like a motor being wound up, It will go on an on, so I turn him off, but lately I just yank the battery as I am afraid to let his leg keep winding itself up like this, or sounds like it is. He does not have to be on rug or carpet, in fact the last few times he is allways on a wooden table surface so that should not be a problem, I also have noticed that the front leg gets warm very quickly and I have to turn him off, :(

Does this sound like another "Sparky" or something else...? He is such a sweet little fellow and I do not want to further damage him but am afaid if I keep running him like this, he may break a cable or ?????????????? Who knows,, Any solution or ideas other then opening him up? I wish there were more Pleo surgeons around, With my luck I will amputate his poor limb, I mean I gave him the name Chester because he reminds me of Chester the limping deputy on Gunsmoke, Matt Dillon's buddy, but I do not want to carry it to the point of REALLY making him limp forever.. I already have Baby Ruth with a similiar problem but her leg does not click, it is just stiff and will not bend, but it also gets hot... Why are there so many Pleo RB with leg problems...I can't remember any of my Ugobe Pleos having stiff legs like this, just the occasional neck click when hatching...Any ideas, Help very much appreciated and I can post a video to show exactly what happened, like two days ago.. Thank you in Advance from all of us at the Township of the REdwoods. :flowers: ( IMR, I apologize if I am listing an old problem, I do not know what to do and thought it best to start a new thread. thanks.. I am not very technologically advanced... just a old cat learning new tricks... or trying to... :cat:) RWM and poor Old Chester the Pleo Rb

Post a video for us RWM :) It will help to see what is going on. I have just finished fixing Cato for Talon who also had a leg clicking, lifting issue and the cause of his problem was different to Sparky's so it may be the same or could just as easily be a whole other issue. I am going to do a post about Catos repair soon. He is still visiting with me at the moment, I'm just waiting for Talon to be home long enough to collect him when I post him back :) Anyway I am currently busy with a couple of assignments for TAFE so will put a post together about Cato after I am done with that. Maybe that will be of some benefit to you.
But do post a video and we will see if there is anything we can suggest. :)

Hi Kat, do you think it will be of more benifit if Chester has no clothes on, he usually has his vest and socks, I have also noticed his front two feet are getting 'Chaffed" wearing away the skin on the outside edges do to his constant clicking where the leg goes back and forth in a constant motion. Let me know about the clothes, socks and I will turn him on shortly for a minute should be enough. Thank you so much. Oh, what does TAFE, is that your schooling, or training you are going through? We are so lucky to have you on the forum here. ;D RWM on Chester's behalf. :cat: P8)

Here is the video taken two days ago so I did not need to do a new one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkbVa8f_OKw

From watching the video it looks like it might be the knee joint that is having the issue. Is he able to bend his leg at the knee joint? Can he still walk? Not that you really want to run him with it clicking like that but just wondered if the joint functions at all? You could try manipulating the knee joint. I know in the video you moved his leg manually but that was just the hip joint that you moved. Maybe try bending the leg at the knee joint and see if that helps at all. Let us know. :) If that doesn't work we can think about what to try next :)

Sorry to hear about Chester, Redwoods. The sound is different than the ones Cato was making. In fact he wasn't doing much clicking at all. I wish you the best in getting him diagnosed/repaired.

Hi Talon thanks for the words of encouragement,I am glad that Cato is getting ready to come home, you must be happy and excited! kat, thanks for watching the video and gving me some advice, I have been out of town all weekend and took both Cammie-Sue on Saturday to post video with her in it, and Baby Ruth today, (Sunday) and will post video probably by tommrow. I would have brought Chester but with his leg I thought it better to take his two girl friends, ;D Saturda we got the best video, today would have been nice, but going through windy mountain roads made me car sick and sleepy, so I missed a lot.

I did try bending Chester's leg at the knee joint while on and also whlle in the off postion Kat.the leg that is the problem I can not bend at the knee manually or unless I was to use a lot of force, I will have to do another video, turning him on to see if that leg does bend, I do know that both he and Baby Ruth with their individual bad legs, get overheated or warm at the shoulder area , Baby Ruth on the back leg and Chester at the front, is that the usuall common area for overheating, perhaps where the wires or cables all come together? I do hope it is something easily fixable, he can walk ok and there has been a few times where he walks normally with no clicking so It happens more times than not, but I do not think it should be occuring on a regular basis.

Let me know what I should do next or a particular way or spot to manipulate or bend Chester's leg, knee. Thanks so much.

RWM :cat: thanks on behalf of Chester the Pleo :flowers: P;)
