You can program Rolly to dance (your own dance) or it will dance randomly to the music. I want one so I can play the music that my Aibo's have been programmed to dance to

I can see the novelty of that wearing down fast. Also disappointed that it only has 2gig of memory, my current mp3 has 4gig, my mp4 has 8gig and my mp5 has 16gig

If anyone buys one though let me know how it works out

I'd also like to see one that hasn't been programmed by a pro.

I bought one of these on an impulse last summer. Its really cute (I love the uniqueness and somewhat surreal quality of it) and its very nicely constructed. But utterly useless. unless your in the market for a 350$ cat toy.

(I bought mine at the Sony Style store in the now very sad and empty Sony Metreon)

Its nicely made. The sound quality is pretty good and the flaps can help direct the sound for a neat effect. The battery lasts about 4 hours with dancing and it recharges via USB. Its almost hypnotizing to watch (particularly in darker environments where the LEDs are in full effect) Its great at parties But useful for little else.

There's no headphone jack, and the thing is heavy (heavier then any iPod) So it largely useless as a standard MP3 player.

The dances are separate files associated with each song. Rolly does NOT dance randomly like Aibo Dancer. You need to run each song through the choreographer software at least once to generate an .mtf file. the choreographer software can scan the song and generate a dance randomly. Or you can make one from scratch. (which takes awhile) The auto generated dances are OK But not like the carefully choreographed ones. Sopny set up a site where people can upload there dances.

I don't regret buying it. but I don't think I'd recommend it. Somehow Rolly survived Sony's recent cutbacks.

I love the stuff Sony puts out, but they're very fickle about what they support and what they dump.

I went to Metreon and found that Sony Style closed about two weeks ago.

There are a lot of businesses closed and closing around here, the biggest at the moment being Virgin Records. And through all this Ugobe seems to be still hanging on.

I cannot help but think: if I wanted a new gadget this would be it.
It's cute and 4 hours isn't too bad.
Especially when you can easily charge it via USB.
The random dance data generator is a nice touch.
I bet it still will dance and move better to the beat then Aibo dancer IMO.

The Aibo i was bidding on went past my budget again, so me and my partner decided that maybe we should leave an aibo till next year, so my rolly is to fill the void

and its okay fancy Indie has gone to a better place

Brilliant! I'm tempted to get one myself. £250 toward an Aibo was a good start...you can pick up a 210 for that price sometimes! I paid less for my 111 Eddie too.

When you get an Aibo you can program him to dance to Rolly

No you can program Aibo to dance to any song you like...and all the moves you want him to do...then you play the song on Rolly and he will dance to it.

You never heard of Disco Aibo? Below is one of the slower Disco Aibo dances (one of the Aibo members created it) and I got my guys to perform it....they hear a few tones before the song starts and then they know what song they will be dancing to...
