Hi Everybody
« on: April 25, 2012, 04:46:39 PM »

Hi there!

My name is Roy and I'm living in the Netherlands.
When I first saw Pleo on a dutch TV show I just had to have one. Luckily I won a lottery later that week, so I was able to get one almost instantly :) (After a long search on the internet)
That was more than 4 years back...
Then the battery didn't work anymore so I put Pleo back in his box and left him there for a year. Because at that time it wasn't possible to order a new battery.
Then I made a show (I'm a choreographer) about toys and I wanted to incorperate Pleo in the show, and by then Ugobe went down and Innvo Labs took over and I ordered a new battery and charger with recondition function. Pleo managed to do the show but after that again the battery broke down...
Now two years later...we bought a new house and while packing for the move I rediscoverred my Pleo  (still in his original box, wrapped in the original plastic) , I tried to recondition the battery one more time but no such luck.
So today I ordered a white eggcharger and battery on ebay (I believe the ebay seller is also on this forum?).
And now I hope that battery will revive my Pleo, can't wait to try it!!!
I really love my Pleo but the battery problems had a toll on our relationship...
My Pleo is in pretty good shape, but I do feel that the skin has changed a little over time, and there are minor little cuts in the armpit areas.
Should I take precautions before putting in the new battery? I would be really sad to see that he would be finally up and running again but ripping his skin in the process. Is there anything I can do to protect the skin from any further "damage"?
(I already bought a cape with the innvo battery)
First I'm going to wait and see if the new battery will bring my Pleo back to life, I really hope it does!
And I am already thinking of getting a Pleo RB, but I am wondering if all the major "flaws" from the original Pleo are eliminated. I hope someone could inform me on those issues. For example: Does the paint really stay on the body and teeth, does the skin really stay free from wear and tear damage and is the battery really better and free from charging issues?
If so I would get a Pleo RB in an instant.
Thank you for your time in advance!

Roy!

Hi Roy :) You must have a very early Ugobe Pleo, since later ones didn't have the teeth chipping. I have two with perfect dental :P The skin will not just rip, however some holes can get larger over time, particularly ones beneath the arm pits and on the neck. However having said that Lilo and Stitch have not had their armpit holes increase in size so it seems to be dependent on the Pleo. You have a couple of options for repairs, you can use some rubber safe glue for neck holes/splits (it is not as good for the underarms I'm afraid), or you could try a patch with a little silicone. The silicone testing is in its infancy though, so proceed with due caution.

As for the RB's, the paint, in my opinion, is very durable, my four have no paint wear but Nani has some splits in the paint only, on her neck. That does not seem to be a common issue. None have any holes however the skin is rubber and it will eventually deteriorate although it will likely take years and years. You can help by not leaving your Pleo's in the sun, keeping them away from extreme heat or cold etc. The RB's have li-poly batteries which are excellent, they are the same as the white batteries and do not have the memory problems of the green batteries.

So far after about a year and a half my RB batteries are still going strong giving the same run time of about 2 hours that I got from them when I first got my pleos.  The skin issues do seem to have been fixed - they had a bad batch when the pleo rb's were first released but have fixed the issue and so far it seems that no new cases of skin tearing have shown up.  The paint work issues are a bit hit and miss.  I'd love to say that they seem to have fixed that issue too but there are many pleo rb's out there with missing paint most of which happened in the first week of life for the pleo rb.  however I can say that I have 3 rb's and my newest one who is a bit more than 6 months old has great paintwork.  my other two aren't too bad either and they are about a year and a half old.  It seems most pleo rb's loose skin in a small patch on their shoulders of the front legs.  An area about the size of your little finger tip.  It is in a spot that gets a lot of movement and flexing to the skin from the joint of the leg.  So far all my guys still have all their teeth and the rest of their skin and paint is looking fairly good.  Clothing does help to reduce the wear on the paint.  I suspect that a lot of the wear on the paint that occurs in the first week or so is because the pleo needs to air out for a few days before you use them.  they are quite tacky feeling and kind of rubbery damp when you pull them out of the box and they usually have quite a smell to them too but all this fades after a few days to a week.  My first pleo rb lost paint off her back and head in the first few days of life from me stroking her but once her skin had aired out and the smell was gone she stopped loosing paint even though I still continued to stroke her the same.  My other pleo rb's I have been a bit more careful with and put clothes on them from the very beginning before turning them on for the first time.  and just stroked them very lightly with only my finger tips for the first week untill their skin had settled down.
Those things aside the other improvements to the pleos have been great.  Their tails and necks move much faster, they have their own body clock which makes a difference to their mood  - tired and grumpy at night time, hungry in the morning, happy and energetic in the middle of the day etc..., They can sence temperature and so will be hot or cold depending on their environment - if you put them out in the snow they will shiver and whimper :D, They make new sounds as well as many of the old sounds, they have lots of new tricks and many new foods and a toy.  If you like the Ugobe pleos then I think you will love the pleo rb.

Hi Roy, yes, I am the ebay seller who sold the egg charger and battery to you. It was shipped to you, is on it's way and soon enough your Pleo should have new life. As IMR stated, the clothes will protect your Ugobe Pleo a lot better than without clothes. I own a lot of used Pleos, and a couple of Rb. All my Pleos wear clothes as I like to protect their skin and it also gives them personality. I have a couple of the Gold Hatch very early Pleos that came out first, before the mass release, and for the most part their teeth are still good, though I do have some other Pleos that did have "chipped teeth", and I had to "whiten them up". to make them like new. ;D

As for the Pleo RB, the skin has been much improved. I know first hand as I had one of the first batch and sadlly she had to be sent back and I received a replacement that I am very happy with now. The skin is vastly improved and I have not heard of anymore skin problems. There is some very very minor skin rubbing or I should say, Paint rubbing off around the neck area and some on a tail section, but no holes and I would much rather deal with paint issues that could get a touch up then holes that can not be so easily fixed or even ignored.Kat is right about all the great improvements and differences in Pleo RB, and only finding out for yourself is going to do the "trick". I still love my Ugobe original Pleos and I love my Pleo RB, but I think you will find that Pleo RB is more like a real animal and very needy and demanding. If you do not feed your Pleo RB, or give them too much sugar cane for example, they can get sick. If they get too cold, they can catch a cold or get sick. They need to be nursed back to health. Also just like a real animal, if they are dropped or bumped hard against a table, etc, you may find yourself with a limping Pleo who will not only limp and not want to walk on their leg, but cry out in pain if you touch the affected leg. They will then have to be fed the Rock salt , mint leaf and or given lots of TLC also.

Pleo RB is very much like a member of your family and you get very protective of your baby from the time they hatch, to the time they take their first step, and of course the all important, Voice Recognition. The Pleo Rb can learn it's name that you give it, and will respond to only your voice and command. There is so much more about Pleo Rb, but this is just enough to give you an idea of what they are like.  I think you  have a very interesting job and I would have loved to seen the show you did on TOys and with Pleo in it. P:D Welcome to the forums and the Wonderful world of Pleos and Pleo RB, if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask. We would love to see a photo of your Pleo too, what is his name?
let me know when the battery arrives...oh, and I sent him something that should help with his "Holes" a bit.  P:D                 RedwoodsMama            RWM and the Pleo Clan of the Redwoods
