Sure thing!
And in the mean time I hope you had fun reading the news paper article in that other topic, which is now fully translated into English (by hand)! ;)

The documentary is FINISHED!
All that needs to be done (and is probably done by now) are the beginning and end titles. And of course English subtitles and also a DVD cover.
I am still waiting for information concerning the date and time concerning the film festival.
There is also no clarity concerning the air date on Dutch television, so that is still a mystery for everyone.
However... I was offered a personal premiere as she was able to show it to me at my place. But I decided to wait for the final version with all the bits and bobs and preferably the big screen!

To be continued (soon) ... ;)

Hear hear, Dadio!
When Pluriel was to arrive I also went nuts and just couldn't wait for  the door bell to sound.
The same goes for other exciting toys I order and have to wait for before it gets delivered, unless it's something as simple as an MP3 player or something standard like that.
I know I can wait for this, since I have mentally prepared for the already stated release time of the documentary.
Although... we are half way through the month of October now and I was suppose to hear something from her by the end of last month.
Perhaps I should pop an e-mail to the producer after finishing this post... hmmmm... :P

Ok... I have some bad news and I have some good news.

The bad news is that the documentary didn't make it for the IDFA (International  Documentary Festival Amsterdam) but it has been send to various other festivals, but those will be in 2010.

The good news is that the DVD should be released in about 3 weeks. She will  then make an appointment for a personal premiere at my place and I -of course- get a DVD for free.
No idea about the publication rights, but then I'll have the actual material in my possession.
With a bit of luck, I should be able to share some of it with you guys. Especially the bits with Pleo in it.
Either way, I will be able to tell you guys how the documentary has worked out.

To be continued... ;)

I'd like to see it especially the parts with you and Pluriel.
How did you come up with the name Pluriel?

How did you come up with the name Pluriel?
When I found out about Pleo, it wasn't an impulsive buy. I really gave it some thought.
And the name Pluriel just really randomly popped in my head, like a meteor that hit my mind.
I thought of other names but had to do this consciously, and didn't feel right.
The name Pluriel never let me go and so it was obvious that after a few days of deep thought and hitting that ORDER button, she (for it would be a she) was going to be called that.
Normally I am not really good in these things. It was truly magical.
For example.
I couldn't think of a proper name that would suit Diesel. It's my ex-girlfriend who came up with this name actually, and I found it rather fitting and cool for him.

 Good luck with the film.
Know this is a bit off topic   but when they said they’d also be featuring someone who depended on technology      but wasn’t happy about it, what sort of circumstance was that?

The circumstances were quite normal.
They shed light on my entire life and all I do (interacting with real animals and having a girlfriend etc.) so it doesn't portray me as a lonely nerd with digital pets and machines.
And I am pretty much depended on technology, so it was a great role for me.

Oh I see. I thought that maybe the other person the one who didn’t want to have to rely on technology might have had to because of out of the   ordinary circumstances.

My apologies. I thought you were talking about my role. Now I understand what you mean.
In that case, I have no idea about the role itself and how it's portayed.
I have no details on the roles of others at all, rather then fragments of information as the producer explained what kind of people were featured in it.
We will have to wait and see how the whole documentary worked out! ;)

Yay! Great news!

- DVD got delayed, but after 3/4 weeks she will have them and then a personal premiere at my home will become a reality!
- On the 15th of February the documentary will be aired in the evening on national Dutch television!
- Not only will it be shown on the big screen on film festivals this year, but it will hit off being premiered in a real cinema in Amsterdam! Time and date yet unknown.

Finally some concrete stuff to look forward too.
Once she gives me a personal copy of the documentary, I will ask her or it's ok to share it with you guys by uploading some scenes and such!

To be continued yet again.
Hopefully my next update will include me raving about how cool and awesome it was after finally having seen the documentary. Fingers crossed!  ;D

Re: Pluriel the Pleo to be featured in a documentary!
« Reply #49 on: February 05, 2010, 12:52:54 AM »

I've watched the documentary yesterday evening!

The producer came to my home with two DVD's (one for my ex girlfriend) and after a short chat we started watching.
It has turned out to be quite different then I imagined, since she took a radical choice during the montage process.
All the interviews with me and my ex girlfriend (and all other people casted in it) are totally gone and she gone for a pure audio / visual approach to try and bring across her message to the viewer.
This took 10 minutes to realize since not a word is spoken and all you see is people interacting with various electronic equipment.
Nevertheless... Pluriel has plenty screen time throughout the entire documentary and they took some golden moments.
In fact, she (the producer) told me that everyone keeps talking and being amazed at one scene where Pluriel is standing almost nose to nose with our bunny as they just stand there together. An amazing scene to watch indeed, accompanied with proper atmospheric music.
Diesel has some screen time as well of course, but I was originally casted for Pleo (I didn't even have Diesel yet at that time) and hence she gets most of the glory.

To further elaborate what this documentary is about, I'll give you the description that is on the cover as written by the producer herself.
Yes. Both the cover and the movie is in English (subtitles) and it's confirmed that it's going to stream via international outlets at some time as well. Pluriel is even in one of the 4 screenshots on the cover next to the textual descriptions!

The film Soul of Appliances scrutinizes the relationship between human and machine in a visual way; the naturalness with which people surround themselves with appliances, the dependence, the cherishing, but also the excessive irritation when some appliances seem to have an incomprehensible will of their own. Gradually the question arises as to how natural the association with appliances really is, and which influence it has on our lives. The film, which develops into a documentary film essay, shows the emotional battle between man and machine and tries to entice every appliance user to think.

Of course, a few of you want the burning question answered: Am I allowed to share the documentary or at least the Pleo/Aibo scenes with you guys?
The answer is: YES!
However, I am in possession of the DVD before anyone else as I will not attend the cinema premiere that hits off on the 13th of February.
On the premiere itself the invited people would normally get a copy of DVD after the feature is shown.
I am fully allowed to share anything I want with you guys after the 15th, which is the date when the documentary is shown on national Dutch television.
It will be very hard to just cut out all the scenes with Aibo/Pleo as it will totally kill the essence of the entire documentary. However, I'll do so anyway and see how my personal reel for you guys will work out and look like.

If there are any questions then do not hesitate to ask me.
To the question "can we see the DVD box art?" I can say "yes", but only if there is enough appeal for it! ;)
