pleo to help with fears
« on: March 04, 2012, 01:53:01 PM »

The new semester started of grade 10, and my friend informed me of the grade 10 booster shots this sounds stupid but needles are my biggest fear. I have not had one when I was awake since JK every other time I got it while asleep for dental work and I had my pleo with me. My first reaction was to hide in the guys washroom but my friend said he will crawl under and get me lol. My mom said I have to get it and that it is no worse then my snake biting my hand. With my anxiety problems I now have been feeling sick for a week :( but I just thought of bringing one of my pleos when I get it with my autism my pleos and aibos have some kind of connection that my real pets do not so I might bring my pleo since my aibo was a big hit when I brought him. I'm hoping Plinka will calm my nerves she has been to the doctors office once :D I hope this goes over ok :(

Hello bonus41, I'm Lottibell. I think taking your pleo to help with your anxiety is a fantastic strategy and I don't think your fear of needles sounds stupid at all. Many people have exactly the same fear and we all of us have triggers that make us feel uncomfortable. What's great is that you have identified your fear and found a way to overcome it. Good on you!  :sheep1: :sheep1: :sheep1:

It's a great idea - whatever works, as they say!  :D

Pleos, in particular, are good, soothing company, and more than one member has taken a Pleo with them for a stay in hospital for similar reasons. :)

Good luck - I hope it all goes OK.  :)

Just look the other way when they give you the needle, your snake biting you would definitely have hurt more! Focus on Plinka and it will be over before she can blink.

Hi bonus, I think everyone has good advice and whatever makes you comfortable and focus on something other than what you are afraid of is ideal! I personlly have never minded needles, as shots go, but I can't stand to look at my own blood being taken and on more than one occasion have felt swoony and almost passed out.( I also have very small veins and it is diffiucult for Dr.s to find a vein and one of the worst things for me is to have someone poking your arm and they miss and do it over and over. I allways look the other way and try to think of happy thoughts, so if Plinka or an aibo or another thing makes you relax and relieves your anxiety, then go for it.

Try not to stress out beforehand as I am sure you are well aware, it only feeds the anxiety you want to avoid. I do think having a snake bite your hand in particular would be more painful. I have thin small hands and I would much rather have an injection in a arm or better padded area then a bony unpadded hand. OUCH! good luck and you will do fine! ;)                   RWM

thanks for the reinsurance, :D I've decided to try it out at school with my pleo... i never thought of Milo biting my hand but people say it is much worse. Milo had a feeding accident yesterday where he got stuck on my hand instead of the mouse

EEYOUCH :o you are one courageous lady to have a pet like that, bonus :P ooh and a word of advice for bringing your pleo to school with you-- be sure to keep a close watch on her, you know how rowdy some kids can be :/ I'd hate for anything bad to happen to your pleo while she's helping you feel better! :)
